So what's the deal with this game? It all seems so insane...

So I don't follow this game regularly, and am not generally a fan of sci-fi games. However the thread titles always catch my attention and then I scroll through the threads and from what I can tell the game is a mess, possibly fraudulent and has a cult like mentality around it. I mean, are people really buying JPEG's of ships? From a distance I see a designed who had a HUGE budget and promised a lot and is continuing to fall behind and not release what was promised, on top of cancelling a lot of things.

I would love a sort of FAQ or Primer type thing to get people up to date on what the deal with this is because its honestly really intriguing and looks to be the oddest MMORPG activity since original Darkfall, but this seems WAY worse.

When was it supposed to be released?
How much has been dumped?
What exactly are people spending so much money on already with no game?
WHY does it have such a huge following? Especially with so much going wrong?
When is the projected release now?
Etc. Etc.

Basically the cost of the game was grossly underestimated by their leader who can do no wrong in a lot of player's eyes.  Yes they are producing some results and you can see they already have a lot of stuff in the current testing version.  It is clear there will be a game one day but the economical system and the pay2win aspects will probably be a main driving force.  I have predicted this game will cost the average person 100$ a month just to enjoy it but I could be wrong.  The reason I don't believe they will produce a healthy economic system is because of how Chris Roberts claimed he could make Star Citizen with 20 million dollars and he has over 100 million currently and that doesn't seem to be enough.  Someone who has missed the target goal by over 80 million dollars will not be very accurate making a healthy economy like Eve Online or GW2.

I agree OP this whole thing is insane. there is two ways this is going to go. 

1. Release some game that does not match the original KS/Crowdfunding.

2. The money has all been wasted and the daily dollars aren't coming in to keep company running and the whole thing goes boom!

I found this video very telling on the mind set of the people working over there, kind of sad really.

I'd probably add SC to the list, the conversation is usually just as convoluted, angry, based mostly on opinion and very short on facts.

I actually was tempted to try the game out upon its release, but then I saw it's been made into two separate games. That alone killed my interest.

That there will be a solo game called Squadron 42 and a multiplayer Persistent Universe called Star Citizen surprised you ?

This was in the original Kickstarter (19th Nov 2012) and (almost) every backer since then until 14th Feb 2016 got both (some exceptions like the AMD graphic card free promo).

Even after release, the difference between getting one  or both is 15 bucks now. You could wait for release, take a look at reviews and "Lets Play"ers and decide then if you are still interested.

Just look on these forums and I am sure the same guys who are the 'toxic dinks' he is talking about are doing the same thing here. It is boring, annoying and just hate filled garbage. I too could do without every conversation about this game being derailed by the f'ing troll posts you see on these forums.

Well and what do you expect?
One missed deadline after another. He clearly said in the past that raising the funds will not delay the game in any way.
Look where we are now.

And now he is basically like: 'Well what did you expect? Of course there would be a delay with more money no matter what I said in the past.'

If you take this much money and give people this much bullshit then you have to expect some retaliation.

Whether he's right or not is irrelevant, it's compeletely unprofessional. All these people he's taking a pop at have paid, they've contributed to making the game a possibility. In effect, they are paying Lesnick's wage.

The trouble with a lot of these complaints is that they originate due to CIG's flip flop behaviour, people buy something thinking they're getting A only to find out they're getting B instead. You can argue that it's development and things change but is it right to sell individual items, specced out with brochures and all that crap and then whinge when people complain about you not sticking to what you've advertised.

He is just being honest.

If you have 300 people giving constructive detailed feedback and suggestions in the official SC forums (pointing out bugs, errors and possible areas of improvement etc.) and 3 people giving only steaming piles of flaming shit (and 50% of the thread consists of flame posts from them), then i fully support getting rid of those immature trolls by banning. And if they want their money back, i say give it to them and good riddance.
