You guys are going all platform native in your own corners. I don't think Microsoft is doing this to target your demographic. It's not that they wouldn't like to see adoption from outliers, but that they're not wasting energy trying to convince you.
This is about the adopters. This is to get those of us who already like the platform to spend more money with them instead of other services. It's to solidify the XBox platform with the PC platform. That's what it's doing for Windows 10 gamers. If you're not a Windows 10 gamer they're not talking to you specifically.
It probably would be more accurate to substitute "PC Gamer" with "Windows 10 Gamer". That is who the customer is. The rest of Windows users will be on Win10 eventually.
On the contrary they are trying to target gamers, they do after all have a very real problem on their hands. On the one hand you have a very low uptake of their newest, sparkliest, somewhat privacy problematic Operating System, and on the other you have the imminent arrival of a rival of their also new and platform limited Direct X system. Windows 8, was a hard sell for Microsoft, but Win 8 is still doing better than Win 10, and people had to pay actual money for Win 8! As for the rest of Windows users getting Win 10 eventually, particularly as it is still competing with Windows XP for numbers, yeah, good luck with that one Maybe Win 11.. or whatever they call the next one, will have better luck, and have less datamining. People will after all buy a Windows operating system if its any good.
Prove that statement. You are incorrect and the facts back that up but I want you to prove they have a low uptake of Windows 10. Show proof. That is a false statement
Posted it many times, they have barely 10% market share, comparable to XP, which isn't really a good thing. Pretty bad for a Free OS wouldn't you say.
PCG: Xbox already has its own conference during E3.
E3...lol
GDC is the 'real' gaming conference now..
regarding Phils commitment to PC Gamers: using your examples right there to me suggests its NOT a subject of 'we are all gamers now' to him and I really wish people would stop twisting what he is saying as 'PC Gamers' to really mean 'we are all just gamers now' its anyoing and insulting.
regarding earning PC gamers trust at least speaking for me he just did the exact opposite

When you factor in the Windows Store debacle, GoW etc. which is basically a huge FU to PC Gamers, particularly those with AMD GPU's, not that Nvidia GPU's work much better with Windows Store bought games either. Yeah, that kind of thing isn't going to encourage people to believe that MS is suddenly pro PC gaming, if anything it shows they couldn't give a rats a**e about it.
Microsoft is planning to unify its PC and Xbox One gaming platforms into one ecosystem running Universal Windows Applications (UWAs), the head of the company’s Xbox division Phil Spencer has announced. It also looks likely that the Xbox One will become more PC-like with backwards compatible hardware upgrades in the future.
During a press event in San Francisco last week, Spencer said that the Universal Windows Platform, a common development platform that allows apps to run across PC, Xbox, tablets and smartphones, would be central to the company’s gaming strategy. “That is our focus going forward,” he told reporters. “Building out a complete gaming ecosystem for Universal Windows Applications.”
This is, he explained, the culmination of the company’s vision over the past year. In January 2015, Microsoft announced that it was bringing an Xbox app to Windows 10 PCs, allowing cross-platform play and a cohesive friends list across both platforms. Then, in November, the Xbox One was updated to be compatible with Windows 10, bringing a new interface and features to the console. In late-January, Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella told attendees at the dotNet conference in Madrid that UWAs would be coming to Xbox One, but did not specify in what capacity.
Awesome!!! Windows/Microsoft is taking good strides in PC gaming. About time.
No, they are just unfashionably late and realising, belatedly that there is a huge amount of money involved in having an online store for digital games aka Steam/Origin etc. Windows 8 brought Microsofts store to the surface with apps, many of which were tiny things better suited to the mobile market, but with Win 10, its become integral, and they are pushing it to the max, if only they had managed to persuade more than 10% windows users to actually get the thing, seems you can't give stuff away free these days, but hey, here's Forza to change your mind and use the Free OS, nothing suspicious about that at all
Phil Spencer publicly said that Microsoft hasnt been committed to PC gaming but now is and evidence of that commitment is 100% related to consoles. People who consider themselves to be PC gamers should be at least a little insulted
Being insulted by Microsoft is nothing unusual, but its reciprocal. Trusting Microsoft to do anything 'altruistically' is a dodgy proposition at best, which is why when you see them offering something with the one hand, be sure, very very sure you are watching the other hand very closely.
yes and because its a subject close to me anytime I see that xbox logo or the word xbox in said statements by Microsoft I get doubly suspicious
Why is it a subject close to you? Do you work for Apple? Or Sony? I am confused why this matters so much to you?
'close to me' as in I care about it more than Microsofts stance on SharePoint. which I might add is a larger part of their business

and given that the numbers suggest that there are far more PC gamers without a next gen console us folks who are offended by this approach really are likely not a 'outlier' market.
Speaking for myself out of all the Windows versions (and my family started with Windows 1) I think this one is the one I am most offended by. I cant not express how much I do not want to see any xbox logo in my OS enviroment by default, let alone play a console game on my PC. Now that specific view is likely an outlier but still there are more PC gamers without next gen consoles then people in this thread are aware of

I still do not see why that matters to you. If you are so against MS then use Linux or Mac. No biggie.
HE SAID: 'when microsoft speaks be leary' I SAID: 'for me its more so when its gaming related'
What HE SAID means when Microsoft speaks...PEROID. about phones, about office, about OS, about SharePoint, about Databases, about anything related to Microsoft.
thus I made the point that TO ME its more important when its gaming related.

So game on something else. There are plenty of Macs out there. Or Linux.
which of course is not realted to what I said, your question, or my answer to your question.
and to your most current statement that is exactly what I am looking forward to. Thus far many of my favorite games are on Linux now so Steam Machine might be something I actually get, thanks
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Yeah, if you're an outlier it sends the signal that you're not included. But that's your choice. They can't make you buy in and that's why you're not included. It's not worth the effort and expense to try and convince the outliers.
If you're into paranoid conspiracies about privacy they're not going to change enough of their platform to convince you, just so you'll adopt the OS. Either you'll adopt eventually or you'll move to Mac or Linux. If you're a Linux user they're not going to waste the effort anyway.
If you're the tiny demographic that thinks in terms of "PC master race" then you're a dinosaur and they're not going to try and force you to think differently. The lines between hardware platforms are getting blurrier every generation. There is more in common with an XB1 and a small form factor PC than every before. You may not like that, but they're not really worried about you.
Funny thing, and glad you mentioned the XB1, turns out, that the games being released in the Windows Store, are not as good as the same games that are available on Steam, it now makes sense why they are giving away Forza for free, limited resolutions available and no sli mode, among other things, and limited to 1080 in full windowed mode... oops, always a good idea to check what the other hands holding when it comes to microsoft, but it turns out what they were offering wasn't all that good in the first place. Microsofts store, worst thing for PC gaming .. ever.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtVXWbOkbGc
Arriving on the Windows Store this spring and available for free, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex
is a powerful demonstration of what the ForzaTech™ engine can do when
unleashed by DirectX 12 at resolutions up to 4K. Developed by Turn 10
Studios, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is the first step in Microsoft’s commitment to creating amazing Forza experiences for Windows 10 PC gamers.
You are talking about Gears of War which runs flawless for me Nice try though. Have you watched his other videos? Guy is a joke.
So are you saying that there isn't a problem with Sli or Crossfire, actually this isnt' even limited to just GoW, its very single game in the Windows Store. Right now, your better off getting the none windows store version of any game thats on sale there, you get more functionality, particularly in regard to resolutions. At the moment the only thing amazing about the Forza gaming experience will be how amazingly rubbish it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgRjdyt_qfM
Just think, through Windows Store treating your PC as if it was a Console. No Joke sadly.
No we get it, it is just that as was posted above already by @Godeau MS is unifying their Windows 10 environment which includes the Xbox One, why? Because it is a Windows 10 Device. If you do not like the direction they have gone then move to a new OS! Simple solution.
i am not speaking for all gamers or all PC gamers or even all nut cases like myself when I say this
I PERSONALLY do not want xbox in my ecosystem, I dont want to see the logo anywhere in an ecosystem I want to be in which yes...this is why I have been following Steam Machines much closer than I have been following windows 10.
and I have to admit the more posts like this one and the more Phil talks like he does it actually motovates me MORE to look into Steam Machines

This is awesome news. It makes sense with the rest of their platform ideology. They started with Office 360 as a unified platform across devices and systems. That makes sense as Office is their huge money maker.
The shift to unify Windows and to make XBox a PC appliance is good news for me. You can already see how they're slowly shaping their platform to make this work. Currently I can manage some aspects of my entire household through my Microsoft account. That makes setting up users on different devices easier. They're also all tied to their XBox account so that makes gaming easier and a little cheaper.
the language that the Microsoft PR department has Phil using to describe this change in PC Gaming is one of my main motivating factors as to why I have been watching the development of Steam Machines very closely and now that Vulkan is out and many of my favorite games run on Linux I very well might get a Steam Machine this year
