I'm surprised people are still defending the economy in this game. People on other forums are having serious issues with spending 6 hours camping the marketplace trying to buy a popular item before it gets snatched up by marketplace scripts.
There is a problem with that. Daum is perma-banning people right now. That's actually one thing that is going for them in this game. It's B2P and not F2P, meaning people lose real money when they lose their accounts... for good.
Sorry but I'm not laughing at your BDO comments. When you have uncontrolled economies you end up with things like the crash of 1929 and the Great Depression.
Whether you would like to believe it or not, you're living in a controlled economy as we speak. The printing of money is a primary example of your government "trying" to control an economy.
So true. heh, wonder how many of these kids take a lame econ101 class and are suddenly economists. Free market is an illusion when you can control supply and demand. Price fixing happens all the time in our FREE ECONOMY
You're giving them too much credit. More likely they got everything they know about economics from Rush Limbaugh.
That's even giving them too much credit. The sheer reality is that they got everything they know about economics from playing the AH as an Orc in World of Warcraft.
And the prices for that was even more inflated because so many people bought gold driving the prices even higher.

If the gold standard died with WWI (1918) , how could it be a major contributor to a recession that took place 11 years later? Don't you think the opposite makes more sense? That it was the loss of the gold standard that lead to economic mayhem? /tinfoilhat...intentionally.../tinfoilhat
1) I didn't say it was a major contributor
2) Changes like this do not happen over night...WW I initiated immediate suspension and later complete abandoning(in 70's) of gold standard and it's replacement with purely fiat money system.

That's it I'm telling Trump to invade Canada...
Yeah, that would surely fix everything...
Seriously, MMO economics never really works because the resources isn't finite like in the real world. Of course paper money isn't a finite thing either which tend to lead to things like the hyper inflation in Germany in the 20s.
Even real money is just worth something because people think it is worth something, you know you can get a dollars worth for a buck and that is why it works. If the government would suddenly start printing insane amount of dollar bills and increase everyone salaries a lot you get the same resault that happens in a MMO after a while...
Even the MMOs with the best economical systems like SWG did have plenty of weird stuff and people playing the market in a rather silly way.
Real world gold is a good system though, it is limited (and pretty to look at which is a bonus). The system fails if you don't actually see your gold but buy papers saying the bank have gold for you but don't let you look on it but that is another matter.
Sadly, I don't have any good ideas how you actually could make a good MMO economical system. no clue at all. Hiring a good real world economist might work, but then you need one who also plays MMOs.
So much negativity in your writings. I obviously do not know you personally, but you have an underlying sadness to your responses. I'm sure you will respond with ego and conviction only you can understand. Brush aside my response and embrace that which makes you respond so pointedly.
There are some pricing disparities for sure (a good example is it takes 10 x hide at 2k to make a fine hide that sells for 6k!) However i believe this is deliberate to encourage people to craft or set up workers. That fine hide may only have a marketplace price tag of 6k, but if its a much needed mat for yourself whilst making tier 3 tools, to you, its worth a lot more and is worth the time and effort to craft yourself (no one is ever going to sell them at a loss)
Yes, you will never be able to buy potatoes as they insta sell, so it forces you to set up your own workers to harvest potatoes. This game wouldn't be half as interesting if you could just buy everything you need. I have over 3k potaoes in my storage now. They are a valuable commodity and there's not a chance in hell im ever going to sell them for the pittance that the marketplace is stating.
Economy crash? i dont think so. Because of the unique way this economy is set up, it wont ever crash because pricing is completely controlled by the devs
so you think it's a good thing the game FORCES you to do things even if you don't want to do them?
Actually that's called playing by the rules and I can't think of too mamy mmos which dont have ypu do this.
Seems far too many players these days complain about being "forced" to do something.
Forced grouping, grinding, crafting, PVP, cash shop purchases, interaction with other players, etc, it seems they only want to play if the game is totally designed in their favor.
Success in any MMO is achieved by overcoming the challenges and obstacles set forth by the devs, within the rules and designs of the game.
So long story short, yes sometimes you will be "forced" to do disagreeable tasks, how efficiently you manage this is one of the success markers of any good MMO player.
Sorry, you got Rules and design choices confused with each other. Try again.
LMAO what the "its fine" (myopic) crowd fails to realize is, that if EVERYONE starts making or putting the same things on the MP and the prices dont change then the system is broken. Especially if a demand for items that arent getting made continues or even rises and their prices dont change its doubly broken.
If only a few things make money then the game basically forces everyone who wants to make money into doing those same exact things. That doesnt sound like much of a game to me.
Its the same argument games with 'a lot' to do try and make, just because they offer a bunch of mundane meaningless grinds, doesnt man there is 'a lot' to do. Especially if 95% of the stuff that comprises the 'a lot no one wants to do and offers nothing more than a meaningless time sink. Ironically BDO does have a work around for that in their game its called AFK grinding.
Controlled economies never work, in reality or in a game. Especially if it does what it seems this one is doing.
Now the argument people are waiting or people arent at 50 yet could possibly be a small part of it, but if there are some items that sell out immediately and their prices dont go up then there is a problem.
LMAO

nah, I see his point. You are being too literal.
He is saying these are the "rules" of the game world. Of course they are design choices. If it makes you feel better "these are the design choices of the world".
I agree with him. Players want everything to be catered to their specific wants (which I get and is fine) but then they complain when a game does thing differently and they don't want to accept those differences.
