Yes, at constant and VISIBLE financial growth at 112.2 million, they're clearly in deep trouble - based on the HARD FACTS of pure speculation ;)

I mean, have the secret top-tier spies of Derek Smart ever been wrong about anything?

But ... But ... ya know ... all those 112 ... "they are FAKE !!1!1!!"

W.r.t. CIG financial numbers (especially the website counter) being accurate:

Some people had a hard time understanding that no one gets into the Guiness Book of Records without verification.

    https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/2015/preview/files/assets/basic-html/page17.html

"As of 4 Mar 2014, publisher Cloud Imperium Games (USA) had raised $39,680,576 (£23,726,300) via its own website appeal alone."

So at least on 4th March 2014 the website counter and the true amount of cash gathered was verifyably identical.  As checked by the "Guiness Book of Records" people.

Personally I do not think CIG had a reason to change their webcounter since then.

    Have fun
Clearly, you're making too much sense here.

I'd rather believe the HARD FACTS based on pure speculation and Derek Smart drones ;)

It's not even close to finished, which is why 9 out of 10 issues with the current alpha are completely out of proportion.

At the very least, people should have the common sense to investigate current plans before pointing out stuff like lag and performance issues. Such issues are extremely common during development - and most major MMOs release with issues of that nature, too. It usually takes a few weeks or months to smooth everything out.

    That's POST release.
Yet when all they have is a concept demo how can they check out what the game may be like a year or 2 down the road. They can't even show off a modified engine build from CryEngine. Engines normally take 2 to 3 years to make.

You're right, CIG haven't invented a time machine yet.

Which is why you either have to make do with a work-in-progress full of issues - or wait until it's done or cancelled.

If you insist on pretending that an early alpha should represent a finished product - then at least be upfront about being unfair and unreasonable.

So I see you finally admit with no modified CryEngine there is no way they can create the game. After 5 years amazing they still don't have anything but a concept demo. Very good you are waking up. :+1:

Cool another free alpha week. Last time it was only a couple days. I wonder how much more there is and if characters were wiped or saved since the last?

Come on guys just SHOW me a SC engine made from CryEngine. All developers show the engine they have made when first making the game. After five years am sure Erillion has some type of video of that great engine!

    Huh?

Did i miss someone from CIG saying that the Germans from Crytek failed to do the job?

Stop putting words in other peoples mouths mister. You're doing it way to often as of lately. It displays disrespect and quite frankly it is juvenile behavior.

I would hope this version is alpha and not concept.   That alone would be silly.

The funniest thing about this whole thread is that it's being argued by like 5 guys even though this game has attracted more money via kickstarter than any game in kickstarter's history.

I might check out the demo just to have a look but when a game has more money than any other, has been hyped and marketed for years, only has a few people actually posting in the 2 page thread of it and still only has a alpha demo to show for itself, then I will certainly look at it with a HUGE, HUMONGOUS, PLANETARY grain of salt.

Not to mention never spending money on it at all since they still only have a alpha demo but willing to sell ships for thousands of dollars.

Also @MikeB why does a simple question about a engine made for Star Citizen gets attacked and they never get modded?

Many people just do not grasp the scope and the complexity of the project. Overcoming the technical challenges is a great feat by itself.

SC is pushing the boundaries and will move PC gaming, currently held down by the consoles, one step ahead.

But one has to admit that because of the scope it seems for some people to not be possible or too difficult... be it due their limited knowledge of building a game, being generally negative or not able to push their own boundaries and therefor not believing someone else can do it.

There are enough reasons to be critical. Even I have to admit that I am not sure if SC will feel as I wish. But better to have modest aspiration than to be overhyped. Well... then I also have to admit that there were some times where I have been veeeery enthusiastic about some tech videos etc. . It's a rollercoaster ride par excellence!

In the end it just has to feel right. The final product will be judged. I do not like being biased because of prejudices. Being open minded is the key for evolvement. Sorry I'm drifting off ;)

I am am pretty sure that it will push boundaries and hope that it is the experience I wished for a very long time. The last time I felt truly emerged into an MMO was Ultima Online (mainly because of the server and the expected hardcore roleplaying there). I wish that SC can give me that feeling of being immersed into the immersion :)

Pretty much my point. Ark released on Steam out of no where last summer (around a year before they claimed they were going to officially release) That version was a mess the official servers were unplayable (due to game mechanics not the tech) but it was fairly stable and the only issue anyone had with it was optimization,m and most of that was due to people on old machines or decent machines they didnt have configured correctly. Fast forward 9 or 10 months and look at it. Sold over 2 million copies available on every platform there is, updates and content added out the ass. some still claim optimization issues but there arent any for 99% of the people. It actually looks like a real game. Still 2 months away from its target release date.

They also have probably 100 or more twitch channels every single night with 2-5K people watching them IN ADDITION to the 50-70K people (during 'prime time' ) trackable   https://arkservers.net/ .

No one ever heard of that game before it appeared out of no where. No 112 million no selling of dinosaurs or 'donation' packages. Nothing, they made a game and they sold the game. No nonsense no need to break records no need for anything. Oh and they have not only NOT sold anything they have actually GIVEN money away in the several contests and competitions from mod building and Survival of the Fittest.

I dont see anyone from the ARK camp claiming that this stuff is hard they NEED all this or that to make a 'ambitious groundbreaking' game.

So if you want to look at how you do do something and how you dont do something just look at ARK and SC.

I mentioned the timing earlier to show what ARK did in their 10 months since they released their first playable version of their game and what we have seen from SC and how their first playable has advanced in the same time period (with allegedly) a lot more money to throw at it.

And it also isnt like ARK had to redo and rebuild stuff on a fundamental level, they did. Some of their stuff ran like shit and was a mess. But guess what they did do it they did rebuild it and it didnt take them years and 10s of million (allegedly) to do it.

Those comments are COMPLETELY and utterly irrelevant on April 18 2016, I would say they were barely relevant on Sept 15 2015 (the day they were made).

So wait you're comparing a survival game that takes place on one planet, with systems 100 other games  have in place at present, against a universe spanning game meant to have numerous planets, multiple forms of gameplay, as well as needs a myriad of new systems added to an existing engine... Great comparison there...
