So, first it was players "not getting it", now even PA/Daum are "not getting" their game...

There's tons of guild wars popups on the screen everyday (Which imo is annoying as fuck as it's loud), so there would still be incentives to pvp.

You can turn those Guild War pop ups off in the settings.

I never have seen BDO as an open world PVP game at all, majority of the ingame actvites at this time are PVE.
What you can do now PVP wise are 3 things.
    1: red versus blue
2: Pointless guild wars that means jack shit at this time
    3: Pointless ganking for lolz

So how is this a PVP game now?

The game as designed and released has that 49.99 option that gives anyone not interested in PVP an option. It was a good design and there was no need to change it.

The best the defenders can come up with, when they're done insulting anyone who doesn't agree with them, is how 49.99 players will gear up and then go "grief" the PVPers by stealing their grind spots lol. Talk about reaching to pull arguments out their ass.

I thought the same thing, but some people on the BDO forums told me that in Korea once you do the level 50 quest to enable pvp ALL your characters become pvp enabled, even those below level 50. I don't know if that is true or not, but if it is the system we have now is not so bad after all.
Not true. The quest is a "black spirit" quest and must be done by every character.

One Character on Level 50 is enough to activate the PvP Mode on all your Characters, regardless of their level. Players that are being killed in open world PvP will lose Exp. and items. Killing other players will certainly result in receiving negative karma. Players with negative karma will drop more items when they die."

Well I understand why they changed this if it isn't optional to turn on or off pvp for your lower level alts.

One major issue is that if PvE players are resigned to capping their characters at less than level 45, they're also resigned to capping their PvE content at less than level 45.  What if an awesome PvE big world boss or PvE dungeon comes out that requires level 53 minimum or whatever to not get stomped?(considering how big a difference level makes in BDO).  Then that content is off limit to the PvEers who stayed at level 44 and below.

Of course, from what I'm reading, most people with characters that are staying permenantly under level 45 aren't actually PvE characters but instead are fishers and horse breeders, etc (things that don't require a high level to continue onwards in) where level doesn't actually affect anything.  Really makes me wonder how well an awesome farmville game with BDO+  graphics and a little PvM sprinkling would do.

I would like to see Daum make a PvE-only server just to see how long it lasts under Pearl Abyss's current development path (which doesn't really add much new PvE content over time)

Just look at Stardew Valley on steam. Not a pixel perfection game but it's been on the top seller list since launch. It's a game about farming lol.

Yeah, I've been saying for awhile now.  Clearly the farming/fishing stuff is super popular here in the West.  Many people are playing BDO as a 3D graphic-rich Stardew Valley (like our own William Murphy).

But the game isn't intended to be played that way.  Imagine how well a game would do if it was totally built around that concept?

I mean, I wouldn't play it, but I'm sure many would.

And how can you say that for sure?

There's a LOT more content in the pve area then there is in the pvp area. There's so much stuff to do if you enjoy crafting and gathering stuff. Currently pvp is just for "fun", there's no reason why one should do it as you gain nothing.

If pearl abyss spent so much time to create this confusing "mess" from nodes to handling workers and trading between towns, why would you think they cared only for the pvp of the game?

No, there isn't and that is why you blend crafting under PVE label, because PVE content besides mob spawns to grind is merely non-existent...

Crafing itself isn't any better than in other games either, in fact one could say due market, trading restrictions and enchanting it is much worse.

Besides usual supplementary role, crafting in BDO serve one purpose - it makes the game world more alive.

There's also world bosses, scroll bosses, farming specific monsters for equipment drops, treasure hunting and so on. Are these also non-existent?

If we are going to try and summarize by saying all there is in pve is just mob grinding, I can also say that all there is in pvp is just killing players.

Then some of those will quit because they dont really want good fights. Then others will become the new target of ganks and they will leave as well. OWPvP is just bad for this genre.

    Looked at that thread.

The other side of the coin -

Apparently a guild conspired since launch to harass another guild.  Someone created a character with a name similar to the victim guild's leader.  Then they had that person piss off a bunch of other guilds so those guilds would declare war on said guild.  Guilty guild (Baka apparently - cute name *eye roll*) leader got his account perma banned.  Other members of Baka are now in that thread spreading misinformation to create more drama.

Not saying above is true, but there are at least more detailed full screen shots of correspondence from the other side, along with chat logs of the impersonator.  This is as opposed to the OP that only offered a small piece of info about his side of the story.

Summation (opinion) of that thread and the PKers that are responding in it:

Now PVP PKers are stunned to find out that Black Desert Online might actually not be EVE, but might be more like DAoC.  Which is what the game was always intended to be.  This should not be a shock to anybody that looked at the real PVP game design.  It's hard for me to believe that anyone thought the design intent of the BDO for PVP should be literally fighting over grind spots and that's it.  It's obvious the PVP side of BDO is basically non-existent as far as game mechanics go.

Daum courted the PK play group because they thought they needed this player base early on.  Unfortunately for them a vast majority of players that joined the game like the PVE side of things as much if not more and many are not interested in the PK for grind spots.  HOWEVER, many ARE interested in the GvG territory control the game promises to bring in soon.

Daum sees this and have been receiving feedback since launch.  They are now taking action based on that feedback.  They are enforcing more rules on the forums and banning people for in-game behavior.  Depending on what you liked to do and your behavior, you will either like the changes or you won't.

Unfortunately now there will be a lot of consternation among the PKers I think and drama of course, until they either conform to a more mature behavior or leave.

For now it will just be PvE and life skills.  It's okay to have it all.

@PottedPlant22 you have given me a reason to follow the plight of BDO. It will be interesting to see if the EVE reavers go back to no rules or stay in BDO if they are made to follow meta rules.

Lol and you are playing this game for the PvP?!?  There is literally no reason to PvP in this game in its current state.  I'm shocked PvP people are playing this game, with no reason risk vs reward or anything to PvP.

I'm not lvl 45 yet.  But I would think OP's topic is pretty much a non issue.
I don't play the game at all. I played during the beta and I knew the game was not for me. It just amazes me that there are people who are trying to play this game like they play WoW (using WoW since is the most popular one) and the game is not designed for that. It was obvious that the game's main attraction is PvP, and it was a lot better before they made some changes that I believe were done to get more PvE players.

Might be true about the changes, but Black Desert Online PVP is Guild vs. Guild territory control.  The PVP in the game now is not intended game design by Pearl Abyss.  It's promoted player actions from Daum's Project Manager.  That's where the confusion lies.  When you're the PUBLISHER and you want an EVE game and the DEVELOPER is making Dark Age of Camelot like (granted it's GvG territory not 3 realms,) who do you think will win in the end?

Typical PvP drama.  This is every day stuff with these types of PvP-centric games.  It is the type of drama they thrive on.  The big surprise in all of this is that the entire industry hasn't come down on this rude, toxic, and obnoxious form of video game entertainment.

Yep, agree with you totally.  I'm enthralled with BDO and so much enjoy the life skills---horse breeding which I want to get into, fishing, crafting, connecting my nodes to build my little empire of crafters, etc.   Also love running around the gorgeous world watching the sun set or rise and just enjoy the ambiance.  I haven't logged into my favorite ESO for a week or so because BDO has me hooked.

With that said, at some point I will need to make a decision on the game and whether or not I invest in it long term, either through a bit of money or my time.  I keep seeing statements that it is a PvP game at heart and that I'm playing the wrong game.  A shame really because it has such wonderful PvE elements.  I see the battles rage on and on in the forums from the PvEers like myself with name calling rampant.  And I have to say that the community is pretty vile---both in game and on the forums.    It would be nice to just keep doing my horse breeding or trade running in peace.   If this becomes an impossibility due to being PKed over and over, then I will gracefully bow out and and hope that someday, a non PvP centric sandbox game will arise.  Or at least have consensual PvP.
