Im sorry but the 3 month head start perk needs to be removed.. Those 3 months will end up killing the game due to players starting out and then never catching up or constantly being killed. Or like AA and not get any land at all ..etc.

    Dumb is Dumb.

It is unlikely, that those things will be problems. Since CoE is about player and character skill, even with a 3 month headstart people´s souls will be fairly "newbish", only roughly a quarter into their very first life. Which means a brand new character could stand a real chance of atleast defending him/herself simply by being a good player.
Its not like in other mmos where a "lvl 50" char does notstanda chance against a "lvl 70" char, because the mechanics (more life, mana, damage, etc) make it near impossible.

Concerning the land. The map is maaaassive. And there wont be only small dedicated housing areas, because there wont (be the need) for dedicated questmobs areas. Concerning the development costs. I am by no means a proffessional "game making dude", but... They can cut costs on many things compared to big developers. - For example the are using the unreal engine. So no millions of $ and 3 years of R&D go to developing an engine from scratch. - No voiceovers/fully voiced quests (besides simple things), so no need to pay an army of voice actors. (which takes lots of time and and is expensive) - No need for hundreds or thousand of quests, no need for accompanying texts, integration into the game world, no need for people to come up with, write, spellcheck, translate, etc those things. - The map will be, to a degree, be procedurally generated. So no need for a bunch of map artists who must handcraft everything. Plus things like, no need to pay a bunch of CeOs, department heads, managers, etc HUGE sallarys, no need to pay external companys for render trailers, TV spots, etc. In larger dev teams belonging to large companys, everything tends to be more expensive by default. All the little operations costs add up, or in this case, dont.

I don't see it. I see a list of potential features - mechanics. I don't see a soul. Also, the name is very.... imaginative....

Actually in the case of CoE I'd say their coders and writers pulling a rabbit out of a hat to deliver whats promised is key.
True, i think its fairly conditional that in order to have a community that survives, you must first have a game in which they can exist.

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

not to be that guy but this seems like a disaster waiting to happen

And I suppose that it will be non-consentual PVP where some high level can slaughter you out in the wood take all your gear and your done. If your latentcy is high you are screwed. And SO many other things they are stating. Not supporting this..

I plan on taking a civilian route and I'm not a big pvper at heart but having a risk to me is what makes it fun. Best thing is how cooperative the game will be. I can be a civilian who makes food & drinks for players which by the way is a necessity if you want to recover stamina and therefore you'll become important to have around. PvPers wouldn't kill a civilian for no good reason and risk going to jail because jail is as thing in this game and it can be very punishing, instead I expect them to want to rob you and such which is why it is good to join a guild or have a group of fighters to protect you.

I plan on either a beggar-like, stealthy and mischievous character or a community in the woods Robin hood-ish type of character. I guess being a pirate and sailing to uncharted waters sounds awesome as well.

Judging from the shere amount of replies on this post, the interest in this game go well beyond both Camelot Unchanged and Cromwell.. :)

Life is Feudal is pretty much the best example of a fully destructible world, same engine as this one. You do of course reach a limit on how deep you can dig but its pretty deep in that game in most areas. You can also raise ground level pretty high, I suspect as high as the game world itself, but with the physics that game has and landslides and such it would take a lot of effort to find the limit. If course you could also use clay (which doesnt slide) but I dont know of anyone who has simply built a pile of dirt.clay just to see how high they can make it. The best spot would be on the top of the mountain which is alrady very high, but hauling all that material up there just to pile it up would be a waste of time for most people.
Life is Feudal doesn't use Unreal Engine, it uses Torque.

Didnt see or hear any word on magic spells, buffs etc. They talked only about physical combat- wich isnt bad but for a true MMO , there needs to be magic casters involved. So i wont support this.

The kickstarter will succeed, there's no way it won't. 250k in less than a day out of the goal. I'm excited to see where this goes. Hopefully it goes somewhere good.

I'll back it on the 1st of next month, hopefully some of the good packages will still be left.

I'm going to assume you mean, "or a similar mechanic". like in a game where they don't have "magic" but have some other type of ability that serves the same purpose like psionics or some type of futuristic energy weapon or inate ability?

I backed at $90, and I'm sick of Kickstarters. But I wanted to put my money where my mouth is.
I am rather surprised Bill you were taken in by this.  Yes, I agree, great concepts, but how they are going to pull this off mystifies many of us.  There were so many red flags raised during the discussions of the games concepts that it left us with the feeling this was just a huge pie in the sky game.  Just another FC only with a far less experienced cast.

They are using Bill's quotes in their advertising and right on their Kickstarter.

Grak's opinion is "nope to KS" pretty much period. He can comment here. @grakulen

Me, I'm of the mind that unless the players speak to what they want out of this genre, we're doomed to keep getting games we don't want. I WANT a game like this to be made, and to succeed, ergo I'm backing it with my endorsement and my own wallet. That doesn't mean everyone has to, or that it's a pitch-perfect design and KS campaign.

We'll likely hold a Q&A or AMA with the Soulbound guys where they can address the 3-month head start and other issues.

I want to see these projects tested and tried. What are we hoping for if not for things like these? Are we hoping for another World of Warcraft themepark. Some group finder mmorpg and where you sit in your home (Garrisons) doing nothing and letting AI doing work for you like some facebook game, and yourself having no impact on anything or do bare minimum of interaction with other players. The world is pointless, your actions are pointless in the big picture. This is a game that wants to change that. And I plan on supporting this kind of change because if not this, then what is it we have?

Right now it's just big gaming companies controlling the market and instead of making quality games they're focused on marketing and developing new ways just to milk more money out of their costumers while retaining the very same boring mmorpg formula.

Ahh yeah got them and ARK twisted. ARK definitely has its limitations.

they way the hype works the initial rush will be the most relevant. I said they would need around 750-800K after 48-72 hours then they might stagger along the next few weeks and get that final 150-200K.

Now they are selling other perks in conjunction with the kickstarter and that allows guys who have already bought a 'regular' package to buy other stuff as well to help boost the amount per 'regular' backer. But right now I say it as a very steep hill to climb to get there, I f they had had 500K by now I would have still been optimistic, but at less than 300K I am doubtful.

I think 'everyone' wants a game like this (barring perma death gimmick) just like everyone wanted SC (who wanted a space sim) but that doesnt mean it can be delivered (by anyone) let alone skeleton teams with minimal resources, or apparently huge teams with boatloads of cash.

Like I said when I first heard about this game and what they planned to do and how they wanted it to go. Its on the very edge. I always say if it can be done (for the right price) it would be getting done right now by companies looking for the next big thing. I know people claim they have given up on that pipe dream but I dont believe it. I think a lot of concept guys (for the large established studios) are getting paid just to sit around shooting the shit and seeing what is actually possible and how much it would cost to make it happen. deosnt mean they will happen and apparently it means they wont since there hasnt been an MMO announcement form a large studio in years.
