Didnt see or hear any word on magic spells, buffs etc. They talked only about physical combat- wich isnt bad but for a true MMO , there needs to be magic casters involved. So i wont support this.
I'm going to assume you mean, "or a similar mechanic". like in a game where they don't have "magic" but have some other type of ability that serves the same purpose like psionics or some type of futuristic energy weapon or inate ability?
I doubt that anything futuristic will be implemented in a medival world. The closest thing to a psionic in this game could be an alchemist, that uses potions with different effects in combat to daze, gaze, mindcontrol.
I like the concept but without magic casters theres no point for me to play a MMO. And ive a feeling that magic has no place in that game.
Grak's opinion is "nope to KS" pretty much period. He can comment here. @grakulen
Me, I'm of the mind that unless the players speak to what they want out of this genre, we're doomed to keep getting games we don't want. I WANT a game like this to be made, and to succeed, ergo I'm backing it with my endorsement and my own wallet. That doesn't mean everyone has to, or that it's a pitch-perfect design and KS campaign.
We'll likely hold a Q&A or AMA with the Soulbound guys where they can address the 3-month head start and other issues.
I think 'everyone' wants a game like this (barring perma death gimmick) just like everyone wanted SC (who wanted a space sim) but that doesnt mean it can be delivered (by anyone) let alone skeleton teams with minimal resources, or apparently huge teams with boatloads of cash.
Like I said when I first heard about this game and what they planned to do and how they wanted it to go. Its on the very edge. I always say if it can be done (for the right price) it would be getting done right now by companies looking for the next big thing. I know people claim they have given up on that pipe dream but I dont believe it. I think a lot of concept guys (for the large established studios) are getting paid just to sit around shooting the shit and seeing what is actually possible and how much it would cost to make it happen. deosnt mean they will happen and apparently it means they wont since there hasnt been an MMO announcement form a large studio in years.
Big companies wouldn't be interested in risky projects like these. This type of game is for a very close-knit community while big companies with all the stacks of cash they can imagine are more attuned to invest in video games all ready proven to work and with low risk in investment. Especially mobile games, themeparks, casual games that cater to a huge audience
I backed this one as this is my dream MMO come true.
However I have serious doubts that all the things promised in KS video will actually make it into the game.
The project seems WAY over ambitious and 900k seems really low to fund it sufficiently.
At this point I just hope the game gets made even if most features get scaled back or cut I think it will be amazing.
I pray and hope - let this one carry through to completion.
This is pretty much how i feel and, if I had the extra time and cash I would already be in but I just can't quite get off the fence. Seeing some other KS MMOs progress and the issues they have had I have serious concerns about the videos I have seen of this game. I wonder how things like the movement will translate to the finished game. How will PVP work. Is the world instanced at all? Can the people who buy a king package be dethroned? etc.
There are a ton of unanswered questions in their KS video.
Like they talk about parkuor and pole vaults - but what if I am a heavy plate user - it makes no sense that would be even possible for me, and if not - then that part of the game seems completely inaccessible for me. Hopefully there won't be dungeons requiring acrobatic puzzles because tanks would be screwed.
Using multiple accounts to gank - I can see this being an issue, you piss off the wrong guild next thing you know there are 30 alt accounts ganking you into permadeath.
Etc ...
The KS obviously is there to raise the hype level and fund the game, but I can't help but to poke holes in concepts presented so far.
And yes I am a backer, but just keeping it real.
Stay with your family (you can select to be a part of one) and they can help you..don't piss off the wrong guild, and if everything goes to pot...put a disguise on.
As for plate armor. Um..take the armor off temporary and use the pole, then put it back on afterwards?
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
This sounds like a great game, if it was single player. Not sure how it's gonna pan out for casuals as a multiplayer game. I'm gonna go ahead and say this game is niche, which is cool for those who want to play it, not for me.
This is the perfect example of a game that I will back, even if I'm way to busy to play it. I'm 42 and swamped in my family and career. But, when I retire. I plan on going back to MMO's like I did in my early 20's. I used to MUD, Ultima Online etc... To me this game seems like what MUD's were. Along the way MMO's lost their way and morphed into something else. I still dabble in them from time to time, but you aren't really part of the world. I'll back this, I've backed Camelot Unchained and Crowfall. All for different reasons, but one thing in common. They are all taking a unique approach to what I like about the genre. I might not play any of them, but creativity is an art. We must support art for the benefit of our genre.

The same exact games I have backed for the same exact reason. Only difference? I am 'only' 36. Could not agree with you more, exciting times aheaf.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

OMG I hope they do this correct because this have so much potential! the details!!!
Only thing is, I saw the video and I saw some wing machine thing.. So we will able to fly? That removes people from the road and probably will ruin world pvp (if that is a thing in this game).

It's definitely niche, but it's a niche that has yet to be filled by any other previous MMO.
Been talking to my friends about COE and everything they heard and read makes them think of ArcheAge only you just keep buying lives and could loose loot from dying. I think it will be too hardcore for the vast majority of the market. My friends who read up on the permadeath deal want nothing to do with re-leveling skills after a certain time frame no matter what. If it was a single player game it would be different but not in an MMO where you invest time in.

I think you're right about the hardcore part and it not appealing to the majority of players. But for those of us who are interested, it's exaclty what I've been wanting for as long as I can remember.
I would agree with you on that @SedrynTyros. I think what my group of friends have problems with is the monetization scheme and the way PVP is setup. I think when it comes to PVP they want more of a SWG PVP system, you PVP if you want to otherwise you stay away from it.
There is so much you can do that does not include PVP. PVP is not my favorite pastime either, but I intend to carve out a place for myself in the game.
Sometimes it's hard to make friends that will support and defend you, but it can be done. I'm excited by the game and hope it makes it to release. Those of us that don't particularly like pvp will need to band together. I'm always amazed when I am forced to pvp and I actually win. It's like 'how did that happen?' I think a really good pve player can take on pvp with no issues...if you have to.
I'm supporting through Kickstarter. The devs are quite good at communication and do listen to their community. I want to play the game the devs envision, not make it like every other game I've played so I'll go along with the pvp.
This game isn't WOW. I love WOW, but if I want that experience I'll play WOW.
This will be different, more of a virtual reality, I think. I'm loving the possibilities.
Watched the Kickstarter video and it's a tall order. Lots of odd rule sets. They have allot of challenges ahead including daily dynamic story that no one has pulled off on an MMO.
I do have concerns about the funding goal, the business model and the company. However, I LOVE the fresh ideas and the boldness required to attempt it. So, best of luck to Soulbound Studios and all the Backers!
I certainly have my doubts about CoE, but risk is a necessary for change, so I'm chipping in what I feel comfortable parting with. The way I see it, it's like going to a casino. I may win or lose, but it's still entertainment.
Will this game allow me to play a drunk-beggar that fights with a skill or small knives? I don't want to follow the pattern of a full plated solider-hero, but a more guild & thief, mischief kind of character.
I like the way you think. You can get drunk and you can fight with small knives so I think you're all set.
eh i wont back the game. i might play it. concepts always sound cool, its just lame how the mystery of the game is gone after 3 days because by that time everything is mapped out, youtube videos cover everything, and every other form of media has everything explained out. do xyz to succeed and be uber. its all out there immediately. which sucks. i wish discovering xyz was secret for every new player, but its not, its already out there after day 1. makes most mmo's boring for me now.
IMPORTANT: Please keep all replies to my posts about GAMING. Please no negative or backhanded comments directed at me personally. If you are going to post a reply that includes how you feel about me, please don't bother replying & just ignore my post instead. I'm on this forum to talk about GAMING. Thank you.
Looks good there, interesting concepts and ideas. I am just burned out on the fantasy setting...
The world will change as we play. We can make this world what we want, I think. You could be the 'alien' from another world ... maybe? Don't know...but there will be diversity.

So true...it is so hard not to look for the answers. Read through the game forums on the game site. I think you'll be impressed. There are no quest lines that everyone has to follow. I believe quest lines will be customized to the player.
Delivering all of their goals will undoubtedly be a massive undertaking. And with all the complexity involved I'm pretty sure it will have a bumpy start.
But even there is a small chance they can pull through and deliver, the pledge would have been well fuckin worth it! They have all the right ideas, all that's missing is the materialising those ideas.
