Which is exactly what Blizzard would receive if they released a stinker.. sales would dry up, and that sales figure wouldn't be nearly as impressive. 7 mil in multiple markets, on multiple platforms isn't all that impressive for a shooter in this day and age.
I think I have to agree with you there. I expected more sales to be honest. Halo 5 made $400 million in it's first week. That not being on multiple platforms.
Yeah that's true, I also wonder how popular the match based shooter is on console TBH? I know back in the day battlefield's first attempt (modern combat I believe?) struggled because it didn't feature a good campaign mode; enter Battlefield Bad Company ( it's better attempt at a console based version). Not to mention the huge success of titles like COD, Halo etc.. where campaign modes are a selling feature.
Are you both of you serious? I mean really? Comparing Halo name with Overwatch? Damn! You had some .. interesting points on some of your posts, but this right here is a bit ... yucky, coming from you both!

One week after launching worldwide, Halo 5: Guardians has made history as the biggest Halo launch and fastest-selling Xbox One exclusive game to-date, with more than $400 million in global sales of Halo 5: Guardiansgames and hardware Source : http://news.xbox.com/2015/11/04/halo-5-guardians-biggest-halo-launch-in-history/
So , games AND hardware! I assume , there were some deals like "Xbox One + Halo 5 at the amazing price of 400$" ! Can this be included in "games & hardware" ? Or maybe they had some Xbox One Halo 5 edition controllers? Anyway, so yeah!
EDIT:
Halo 5: Guardians sold 1,457,849 units first week worldwide at retail, according to our own estimates, which can be viewed on the VGChartz Global Weekly Chart for the week ending October 31st.
So yea! Almost 1.5 mil units sold in the first week vs 7 mil ! Hm! Close right?

I don't think either of us were trying to say Blizz didn't come out on top with this game, nor that 7 mil isn't a great number. I think Blue was just trying to highlight it's not exactly competing with the big shooters just yet in terms of overall interest. Which I 'd agree with that.
My point was simply saying I'm not sure the type of game (mostly match based) is as popular on consoles as those anyway. Note: saying "compared to the halo name?" is essentially the same thing IMO.
What's yucky about any of that? BTW..Yucky? <lol
Also note my original post blue quoted was essentially saying the game is obviously satisfying the level of hype it generated in it's marketing, otherwise there would be a crapfest going on over it. Which means the marketing is essentially moot now.

Fair enough but you have not really proven anything. The Xbox One did not even have 20 million units sold at that point and they still managed to outsell OW in their first week with it being sold world wide and on multiple platforms. So...yeah.

I didn't make a comparison between the two games, I honestly don't know crap about halo aside from it sells a lot of copies when one comes along. I only have tried Halo 1, didn't like it at all TBH as with most campaign based shooters..
Please reread the post I originally wrote to put this back on track. Here's what was actually said originally...
"Marketing matters for sure. Yet, the first thing to happen to something that doesn't live up to the hype it's marketing generated, is being torn down by gamer and reviewer alike.
Happens all of the time... Dragon Age 2, Anything Fable (after fable) KOTOR 2, Duke Nukem, Medal of Honor, so on and so forth. Most of these titles are from publishers with deep pockets, those games were highly advertised every where. Yet they still received bad scores and community backlash..
Which is exactly what Blizzard would receive if they released a stinker.. sales would dry up, and that sales figure wouldn't be nearly as impressive. 7 mil in multiple markets, on multiple platforms isn't all that impressive for a shooter in this day and age. "
I was saying if sales dried up the number wouldn't be impressive, it's obvious by feedback that's not going to happen right now, positive feedback drives more sales plain and simple.

Agreed. I am not saying OW is a flop we do not know that. None of us here know that. We do not know the total cost of making and marketing the game and how many copies need to be sold to cover those costs. This is basic business. Have a healthy ROI. Blizzard has thrown their hat in yet another gaming genre arena and this one is a tougher nut to crack. Online shooters are plentiful and the competition is fierce.
Really ? Now is about how much did Blizzard spend to make Overwatch and how much did the marketing cost was? How much did Halo 5 cost? How much did they spend for marketing? Exactly! YOU compared both games, not me! So if you say something like that for Overwatch , you may very well say the same for Halo 5.
Yes! Online shooters are plenty and the competition WAS fierce! 2 FPS games are right now worth for a .. competition! CS:GO and Overwatch , yet .. they both play very different !

Really? I just wrote you how much units Halo 5 sold in the first week and that was 1.5 mil ! At a price of 60$ , that is 90 mil for the game alone! So , who add that BIG difference of 310 mil dollars if not the Xbox One console itself? ..right!
Also, as you said, the Xbox One consoles were not even at the 20 mil units sold mark , so you simply CAN'T say that around 30-35% from all Xbox One owners , from around the world, has bought Halo 5 ! You .. can't say that! And I mean it !

You may or may not have good piints, but the way in which you're presenting them blunts any effect they may have because it seems like full-fledged white knighting (compared to the unemotional and precise responses @blueturtle13 and @Distopia are posting).
I think, if we consider post history, neither poster is trying to be a naysayer or hate on OW or Blizzard. There's no real reason to (seemingly) take it so personally.
As far as the announcement goes, that's a damn solid first week. If it continues, I hope it will goad Valve into finally developing a new title to compete more closely with Overwatch (TF3! TF3! TF3! )

I really hope to see a TF3 someday! Also you are correct. I like Overwatch I think it is a fine game. I simply stated I expected bigger numbers. That is all.
It's no console record or anything, but if they can ride the wave over the next couple weeks... It will certainly be another very successful release for Blizzard.
It's not my cup of tea, I think in part because I spent so much time with Team Fortress 2. I'm probably biased towards my "Snipah!" and his jar of golden liquid. :P
Not going to quote the other 2 posts which you added a few mins ago!
Is math hard for you? Really! Stop with this Halo 5 non-sens of 400 mil already! 400 mil , should mean around 7 mil copies worth of 60$ , where Xbox One consoles where .. at what mark at that time? say 18 mil ? My point stands! There is no way which around 30-35% Xbox One owners from around the globe would buy Halo 5 in the first week. So even if that site has wrong (1.5 mil) numbers, Halo 5, from my point of view, did not sold more then 2 mil in the first week. The rest are from Xbox One consoles, as stated also by xbox.com website.
Agreed. I only put Halo 5 up there because it did well, is a modern shooter and as a comparison it is only on one platform and not the most popular one. I expected more sales from OW but it is still a hit. Not sure anyone said otherwise.
More sales? Geezes! Tell me a FPS!!! game which sold 7 mil units in the first week ( NO! Halo 5 sold max 2 mil units )
Also beside GTA 5, which sold insanely like 16 mil units in 3 days!!! the next game after GTA 5 which sold most in the first week was Diablo 3 ( yes, also from Blizzard if you didn't know ) with 6.3 mil ! Now, a no-name FPS game, is second most sold game in the history with 7 mil units sold and first in his category ( FPS ) ! Isn't that enough?
How much did you want to sell? Tell me your number please!
