Convince me not to spend $30 on one outfit usable on one character

As you may have noticed, I've gotten pretty into BDO.  Game just gets better day by day.

Valencia just came out and with it, new outfits.  Outfits are notoriously expensive in BDO, and this one is no exception.

Here's what it would look like on my character:

http://imgur.com/a/lsREl

I've looked at all the outfits released for the game and this one seems like it's the best out of all of them, including future ones from Korea we may get, so if I'm going to get an outfit, this is probably the one.  I really like how sexy and stylish it is, and the staff is just freaking awesome.

But the expensive outfits are one of my few beefs with the game.  I held out against buying the game for months mostly because I felt the way they do outfits is unfair to players.

So I'm relying on you, mmorpg.com forums, to convince me not to spend $30 on one outfit and two weapon skins, usable on only one character.  Feel free to mention that awakenings are coming at some point soonish which will change the class (into apparently a pet class???), and I might not even like playing witch anymore at that point.

If you really want it, hold out for a sale and get a few at a discount rather than one at full price.  And who knows, by then something better may be out.

If you've got the money and it makes you happy, spend it.  That's what it's there for.  If you can't spare it, then don't spend it.  Otherwise, enjoy your new outfit.

That's a decent try, but the discounts aren't substantial.  I'll probably have to pay $30 no matter what if I want the outfit, the dagger and the staff skin, because of the way you can only buy in $10 increments.

Also, you can see all the outfits that have been released so far in Korea here:

None of them seem as appealing to me as this one, so I doubt something better would come out (although the awakening for witch isn't listed and may be pretty cool- that is soon to be released I think).

how do these threads exist? convince me not to? can you not be trusted with your own decisions in life? pray you dont have kids lmao

Your character's face is so sad lol.

Just buy the costume if you are 100% sure it's the one you want from all the current and future ones. You also want the weapon skins else I would maybe buy only the costume in parts maybe it's cheaper.

kids in Africa could buy an entire arsenal of AK-47s with that money.
That may be true, but here in Africa we call that the "Free-2-Shoot fallacy" !

You can buy AK's for pennies, but just wait until you want to buy bullets... :D

Clearly a voice within is saying don't do this now.  Give yourself some more time to think about it.  That outfit will still be there next month.

Buy it if it pleases you. I think if you are happy at how you will look in it and you can spare it just go ahead.

I can kind of spare it.  It could be better used for something else, surely, but it's not going to break the bank.

I just recently switched from smoking to vaping so I do have more money than usual.

It would enhance my gameplay.  My toon would just look so sweet in it.

But seriously $30 for an outfit usable on one character?  I've never spent money like that on something like that in a video game.  It's really hard to justify logically although emotionally I really want to buy it.

The way it's justified is that they aren't making me pay for expansions or anything at all in the game.  The high prices on outfits is the price to pay for that.

I'd put that money aside for a rainy day.  So many people I know don't set aside extra funds and wish they had.

Certainly good advice.  I caved though.  And you guys all suck- Octagon was the only one actually trying to convince me.

The way they make you want to buy outfits is so incredibly diabolical- the amazing graphics combined with shabby armor that barely changes.  No sub so you can kind of justify spending 30 bucks.  It's mind-boggling.  I see people with outfits everywhere too, so I'm no the only one they got.

Oh well, I am sure I will be playing this game for quite awhile.  And the modeling on it is really well done.  The outfit is nicely dyable too and shows up various degrees of translucent depending on what kind of dye you use.

That is because the rest of us know better then to dump any more into that game.  The game is a trainwreck full of problems.  If they were competent enough to actually fix them then the game would actually be pretty fun.

    It's a bad game.

I know you're tired of a rubbishy appearance, but realize that the entire setup is a scam to get you to buy-in on these ludicrous, pixelated wardrobe upgrades. Moreover, you'll be as bored with your new appearance as you were with the old within a week.

BDO robs players of one of the greatest features of the genre: paper dollism. All you're doing by heaving fistfuls of money in their direction is confirming to the Daum higherups that their racket is paying off.

*Edit* Just read that the OP went ahead and did it anyway. Whatever. I can't lead the willingly lost.

I don't understand why people care about their character looking amazing.  Especially when everyone knows the only way to look that way is the cash shop.  I would kinda understand it if you raided for 3 years and finally got that ultra rare drop...but you just gave them your credit card number for some clothes.  Maybe its a guy thing to not care as much about appearance,  the appeal of cash shop only clothes is completely lost to me.

Better spent on hookers and blow if you ask me.. yes even ones you can get for 30 bucks.(hookers I mean)
  • mbrodiembrodie Member RarePosts: 1,504
i mean even though you already bought it.. daum is a horrible company run by incompetent people.. thats reason enough not to give them anymore money.
  • GladDogGladDog Member RarePosts: 1,097
Because they will have no choice but to drop prices in their cash shop sooner or later.  Especially with very good looking games like Bless and Revelations coming out in the next few months.

I like individuality in appearance.  I can't stand looking like everyone else.  City of Heroes gave you OODLES of costume choices for free!  This game charges you two months premium for most games for ONE costume for ONE character.  No way.  This is the only reason I won't consider buying BDO.  There are lots of little problems with the game, but nothing insurmountable (well, the hackers, and the people that kill mounts for 'fun', kinda spoil it for me, but I've lived through worse).  The ridiculous cost on the costumes is more than enough reason to avoid this game, especially considering the games that are out there, and the ones coming up.

The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!

Spending all that money for just a single toon....kinda sad practice. Could understand if it was account wide, but a single character....? I know its apples and oranges but I bought a lot of outfits for my jin warlock only to end up hating it. At least NCSoft gives you a way to transfer the outfits between toons lol

I was going to go with $30 for an in-game outfit that you'll hate in a few weeks... or $30 worth of games on Steam's sale.

I'm pretty sure just Stardew Valley alone would eat up 80+ hours.

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

Gotta beware that slippery slope though.  If you spend $30 on this outfit now, you might unknowingly be taking the first steps towards becoming a whale and losing all spending inhiibitions.

    IE, do it.

I still believe companies are either gold sellers themselves or get a cut of the gold selling. How else can you explain all these day one release gold sellers spamming to sell you millions when the game just went live within a hour?
