So go ahead , keep playing the game , keep buying stuff but not acknowledging the fact that the game will eat up a shitload of your time is just lying to yourself.
But... what if I quit the game because it was terrible? Can you shake your magic 8-ball again? I'm sure there must be some kind of fanboy one-liner in there to set me straight.
Because the universe clearly revolves around you, and we're supposed to give a damn about what games you like and don't like? Always nice to find people who's point of view comes down to "It's the worst game because I say it is. And you are all wrong. Neener, neener, neener!"

    Grow up. :)

As you may have noticed, I've gotten pretty into BDO.  Game just gets better day by day.

Valencia just came out and with it, new outfits.  Outfits are notoriously expensive in BDO, and this one is no exception.

Here's what it would look like on my character:

    http://imgur.com/a/lsREl

I've looked at all the outfits released for the game and this one seems like it's the best out of all of them, including future ones from Korea we may get, so if I'm going to get an outfit, this is probably the one.  I really like how sexy and stylish it is, and the staff is just freaking awesome.

But the expensive outfits are one of my few beefs with the game.  I held out against buying the game for months mostly because I felt the way they do outfits is unfair to players.

So I'm relying on you, mmorpg.com forums, to convince me not to spend $30 on one outfit and two weapon skins, usable on only one character.  Feel free to mention that awakenings are coming at some point soonish which will change the class (into apparently a pet class???), and I might not even like playing witch anymore at that point.

    Well,

That $30.00 could be spent to buy 5 Starbucks coffees!

Or you could give that money to me!
If that was the best costume of the bunch, I'd rather pay $30 for 1 Starbuck's coffee.

don't spend money in the cash shop, you are promoting bad practices in gaming industry, if you don't wanna be price gouged , then vote with ya wallet, plus the game is dead, don't invest money into a dying gaming.

Nah, RNG boxes are bad practices.  Daum pushes the line with the high price and low alternatives for cosmetics, but ultimately you want monetization to come from cosmetics (which are optional and don't affect gameplay).

Game seems as alive to me as it ever did.  Node wars was fun tonight although we got smashed by two guilds working together, which is the most I've done with a guild in a very long time.

Pretty nice to play an online game together with other people.  Shocking in this day and age of MMORPG, but it's still appealing to me.

Just curious.  Do they force you to purchase the RNG Boxes? If so, how do they force you to buy them?  Could it be illegal in your state?

If you are free to choose purchasing an RNG Box are you aware your are buying RNG Boxes?  If so, then you have a meeting of the minds. Therefore you can't complain about them.  At the very least you would be suspect doing so.

RNG boxes are notoriously p2w.  They affect gameplay by making it almost mandatory to gamble on them if you want to compete with the top tier.

    Outfits do not do this.

    Do you see the difference?

Kind of hard to forget the p2w part of the dialogue because it's the important part.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to get at here.  You're saying RNG boxes aren't bad because the company doesn't force you to buy them?  Well, that's true, but they don't force you to buy outfits either.

Difference being if you don't buy an outfit, you can still compete with the top tier in an MMORPG.  If you don't buy RNG boxes, you can't.

Outfits have 2 criteria they meet which I mentioned, which are the reason you want them to be the focus of monetization for your MMORPG if sub is not possible:

    1. They're optional
    2. They don't affect gameplay

RNG boxes only satisfy #1.  They violate #2 so much usually that normal gameplay and progress becomes basically meaningless (see Blade and Soul for an example).

Just to clarify why this is bad- if all meaningful progress is only obtained via credit card, there is very little point to actually playing the game.

Look, don't tell me about p2w.  It is loser talk as far as I am concerned.

Meeting of the minds is what matters.

You don't have to play this game.  If you feel the RNGbox is pay to win and don't like it then don't play the game.  If you still play it and feel "forced" to buy the RNGbox because you feel it is P2W, then you still can't complain about it.  Unless you are not in your right mind.  You are choosing to play.   Stop being a sucker if you don't like it.

If you choose to do it, accept it. Be an adult about it.

Feel free to mention that awakenings are coming at some point soonish which will change the class (into apparently a pet class???), and I might not even like playing witch anymore at that point.
don't spend money in the cash shop, you are promoting bad practices in gaming industry, if you don't wanna be price gouged , then vote with ya wallet, plus the game is dead, don't invest money into a dying gaming.

Forget the p2w part of the dialog ok.

If you know you are buying a RNGbox, you can't complain about it.  It is a meeting of the minds.  A contract if you will.  And unless you are somehow mentally incompetent (ex: drunk), a contract is a contract.
Kind of hard to forget the p2w part of the dialogue because it's the important part.

I quit Blade and Soul maybe 2 weeks after they introduced their first p2w RNG box.

I don't play MMOs that rely on p2w gambling.

My point is that BDO's monetization model is not p2w, and that's a good thing.  Do you see this point I'm making?  Kind of feel like I'm talking to a brick wall here.

I'm still trying to figure out the point you're trying to make.  Is your point:

Any monetiztion model is fine for MMORPGs because if you don't like them, you can just quit them?

I mean, that's true I guess but it seems extremely short-sighted.

The point he's trying to make is this

If a game has gamble boxes and you buy one (or give that company money for any other reason), then you are agreeing with their practices by giving them money for it.

If you agree with their practices by doing so, then you lose the right to complain about said practices because you've already given them money knowingly (Thus agreeing with them).

That's it, that's all he's saying.  Just the translator.

Ok... but I haven't bought an RNG box, and I never will.  I also quit games that implement that kind of monetization model, games I even otherwise enjoy to a large extent (such as Blade and Soul).
