I have to say that WoW probably has the best "artistic style" but EQ2 kills it with pure "graphics" effects. Shadows and lighting, spell effects and such in EQ2 are just tons better. If a company could combine the art style of WoW with the graphics engine of EQ2 they'd have an amazingly beautiful game.
Guild Wars is very nice and plays smoothly but the engine itself just isn't up to EQ2s. Mind you EQ2 requires a tough PC to handle it.
As to Wish graphics being good. I played in both beta's and frankly I don't see why people liked them. They were very poorly rendered models and the engine itself was hardly impressive. Wish didn't die because of the PnC system, they could have done like Guild Wars and used PnC and "drive" mode, it died because people were not interested in yet another bland world of pointless goat and chicken hacking. Wish in both beta's was not impressive at all and I am not in the least suprised it was cancelled.

A clue? Your saying a company folded up years of development because they chose point and click for the movement style and your telling others to buy a clue??? Gee, I would have thought the company would have simply of changed the movement style IF that was the real issue, which it wasn't. Try engaging that brain of yours alittle when you post please.
Yes if you know anything about Wish you'd understand this.
Wish's engine is built on PnC. Without going live with PnC it would have taken a major reinvestment. As they got feedback about their PnC system they realized that only a fraction of the people interested in the game would subscribe after seeing the PnC mechanics. Basically they didnt have the money to build a whole new engine to continue so they shut down. Irth bought the graphics and alot of the mechanics to expedite their development.
People asked repeatedly if Wish could go from PnC to WASD movement. Repeatedly the Wish developers responded that it was impossible to do so due to the fact that it would require and entirely new engine. If you had read the Wish dev boards and paid attention to what was happening during beta you might understand things before you went around talking out of your ass.
Wish chose PnC movement to alleviate lag and it did do that. I would have played it with PnC. After a few days i got used to it and functioned just fine. Most people unfortunately wont put in a few days to familiarize themselves with something that turns them off so bad the first time they're on.

Wow Copeland. You are so full of it. Nice story, but it doesn't wash. Switching from PnC to WASD does NOT require an entirely new engine. It's just positional movement. Any mid-level game programmer can re-write this movement source code easily. All the physics and mechanics are pretty much intact. You've obviously never done any game programming in your life, so stop pretending to know about game engines.

Hey cope, I guess everyone that disagrees with you is a troll. Well, you're right. The whole world is against you. You are the only source of truth and light. Now go WASD yourself to the Irth forum because no one really cares about your point'n click trivia.

And btw, you should really know what your talking about before you open your mouth. I WAS in the beta, much to my displeasure. And I can't help it if you actually beleived developers say it can't be done. That was your mistake, not mine. I as a developer know better then that. Try again Cope.

WISH is dead. Sad but let's get over it as it lives and breathes on in Irth Online. Well, at least some of it
EDIT: oh and fadeus check out my couple of screen shots in the SWG section! I have enjoyed yours so I hope you like mine. Just 2 for now but I love 'em.

Fadeus i've been in IT developement for 15 years. I have spoken to the developers of Wish. I have spoken to many developers. I never act like i know something that i dont know. If you dont accept what they said theres no way i can prove to you that was the case. If you don't take their word for it you definately wont take mine.
The leading gripe on the Wish forums was PnC. It was explained that Wish could not be done any other way due to the engine they designed. As they lost beta testers and got feedback on the lack of appeal the mechanics had they came to the conclusion that they wouldnt be able to retain enough subscribers to pay for the game. They thought it better to sell what they could to recoupe as much of the capital as possible. Notice the artwork has been sold but the engine has not.

Um yeah everyone knows that beta graphics are not the finished product. Less polygons equals less cumbersome. Need a loan to buy a clue?
Originally posted by sygmas Not sure what youre smoking Cope, to think Irth Online has a good engine. Not sure any of you guys have looked at the gallery. Anyways. EQ2 is bar none the superior engine in the MMO industry, why? Because its not even reached its potential it was designed to be able to scale up. So it has bells and whistles, or the capability to adapt new bells and whistles, that aren't even in use yet. So I'd definitely go with that. IF this were a 2004 game discussion. It's not. Don't even start on WoW, it has 'unique' art style (I'll call it that because im trying to be objective, some people like it, I dont) but in terms of sheer graphical power the WoW engine is very non-complex and low polygonal. Thus the easy to swallow system requirements, opposite the entry barrign ones of EQ2 at times. Anyways...for 2005? Not TOO much coming out this year, MXO And GW have come out this year, both have pretty good engines. Maybe a toss up between CoV and Guild Wars? City of Villains has a lot of nice new bells and whistles in it like bump mapped water and other effects especially for costumes, new particle effects etc. Not sure how GW would look like without all that bloom, im guessing thats the real culprit for why it looks that good. MXO can look really nice at times too. I'm not sure Pirates of the Burning Sea is out this year, if it is then I think its got a good shot at that crown.
I am not sure what coped smoked either. It may be delusions that caused him to think irth has the best graphics. I am currently testing Irth, and to tell you the truth its not that impressive. The graphics are ok, and the trees do sway in the wind. thats all that seems to move in the wind. The animations are horrible. you go from laying flat on the ground to standing strait up with no in between animation.I do not like running around in a place where all the characters look the same. there is no customization in the character creation. to me thats down right cheap!!
the difference between elves and humans are the ears..I will give them the fact that they are in beta, but I do not see much changing upon release.
I am not that that fond of SWG, but the character customization is the best so far.
Thank you for your time.....................................

LOL, Nice try genius. Nobody but the dumbest game developers would use low-poly models for Beta. Besides low-poly models can actually look pretty good with a little talent, which some game developers obviously do not have. Got another explanation, Einstein?
Maybe you should take your own advice and buy a clue...oh wait, with your single-digit I.Q., you would be laughed out of the clue store.
