LOL sounds like this is dead in teh water before it launches....usually the hype for thes games is thru the roof, but this one sounds like it was stillborn.

Hey, I'm sure there were a couple of guys standing on the deck of the Titanic as it sank, yelling "I spent a shitload of money for this, everything is going to turn out great!  Change, it is a-comin'!"

Meanwhile, everyone else headed for the life rafts.

Yep, glad of the free trial to make my mind up. Once upon a time this game would have been very appealing, but sadly for me that time ended over a decade ago. Very glad I didn't spend money on this game (it was a close thing) now that I've had a chance to actually play it.

They've already failed hard since it went persistent in July last year they've only manage to keep a few hundred people a lot of their positive supporters jumped  ship last year and sold out they could see the writing on the wall. They've let rampant exploiting go on to where people have leveled up their skills so high it would take an average player years to catch up to them now, not an equal playing field.  They should have put a cap on the skills and gotten rid of the stupid decay system. This isn't the early 2000's where people will accept being penalized for time that you're not playing the game. The thing is these devs actually believe this crap is good no matter how low their numbers are lol.

I agree, Rawyn. There's one dev, in particular, who clearly thinks his shit doesn't stink. Some are more open and receptive, but the guy I'm thinking of should never be let near a forum or any conduit which communicates with fans, because he treats people with such arrogance and disdain (despite having nothing remarkable to back his ego up), it's crazy that anyone still wants to support this game. Yet people still do. Anyway, this free trial is probably the best thing that could ever happen. People will see how awful SotA is.

And LB wants to release in July.  You have to be really stupid to think, that your game is ready to be release in 4 months.

Newsflash-   Whatever it's called... it was "released" last year as soon as there were no more wipes.

Just a little further information; even if the game was the second coming of Ultima Online, you need to be aware that the wider community moderation is so bad that outright harassment of critics is tolerated.

Consider this waybacked version of one thread on the official forums. If you check it now, the abusive posts have been removed, yes. So Berek the community moderator is not only aware of them, but he's also been notified multiple times that it's part of a much wider, and years long campaign of harassment. If you've been on the SotA Reddit you know exactly who we're talking about, and what kind of behaviour he's engaged in, including trying to take it into real life. And no action is taken, because the accounts involved remain supporters of the game. Not even against the account which was a clear sockpuppet and breaking their own forum rules.

However if you harass and insult critics, but then become critical of the game itself, you risk suddenly getting banned. You might think that's hearsay, but I archived all the behaviour of that user towards me, amongst others, here. As well as showing my reporting it in... but instead of addressing it, instead of acting on the violation of the claimed community standards which was happening right there and then, they banned me from Steam for using the word "Liar" about people who admitted later they were scamming others. So even scams were fine as long as you tried to draw new players in... even if only to scam them later.

Defending the game is put before all other standards of basic human decency.

I believe some of the development team really do want to be all inclusive and create a fine product; Lord British's trip to Reddit recently illustrated that. But you'll also see he apparently thinks some of the game's own patch notes were a joke. Somewhere within the company something has gone very, very seriously wrong and I'm not sure anyone, even Lord British himself is aware of what's actually happening.

And you'd be a fool to want to get involved yourself with it, especially if, as is most likely, you'll have doubts or criticisms about what you actually find yourself playing.

We all know who that is. Chris Spears, from the description on their dev page it seems he basically use to be a teacher or professor that taught C++ to students and was involved in some PS1 crap games hardly anyone ever heard of or played, and had a hand in some failed app games and had some part to play in Tabula Rasa. Hardly a resume in the gaming industry to have the ego he has. Darkstarr has just as big an ego, mostly because of his UO character, but has a better resume with successes and able to keep his cool better, more of the BS'er of the group and best at spinning things even when the game is in the crapper, he reminds me of Paul Barnett from the Warhammer age of reckoning days who was always telling us how awesome it was when it wasn't.

From their telethon they say it's story released by July and sort of commercial release by Fall and they're basically scared to say released then and say it will be ongoing after and won't really say released as it will always be in development after Fall.

Seems they always want to be able to hide behind the word Early access and are afraid of the bad reviews it's going to get if they say released. To me it was released last July when it went persistence no more wipes. They continue to hide behind the early access label to try and hide the fact it's already failure of only having a few hundred people sticking with it now. The whales that have spent thousands and thousands are holding it up at the moment. Many of the positive community jumped ship before last July and sold out while they could get some money back. Wonder how long that lasts once they figure out what you see now is the game with just some polishing added to it.
