This game is creating groundbreaking work and could possibly be a new standard for all PC games to come.
What is it with some of these deluded fans this game attracts? From being the most complicated software project of all time to being the new standard for ALL PC games to come.
I mean you do realize comments like this, including the ones from Chris Roberts, are part of the reason the SC community is the laughing stock of the PC gaming world right? No wonder Goons aren't giving up with the constant poking... you guys keep on giving and giving.
Does CIG sell any reality-checks in their pixel shop? They'd make a killing.

I think that they literally think that what they say is true. I wonder if they just don't experience a wide enough variety of games to understand what they are saying is stupid. It's a strange stance to take considering the game is, at least currently, a pile of shit.
I'm pumped for FOIP, especially cause voice, it's a massive jump from trying to get the attention from someone in front of you to read the text chat what is just annoying
They end up shooting you thinking you're trying to kill them --'
Yes.. this is exactly what the game needs. More gimmicks.
I agree.
Of course you do. It's people like you who give CIG the leeway to add bullshit features like this instead of working on the core basic gameplay which plays like trash.
Does the FOIP cause much of a frame rate hit? Still too new for test info to hit?
It's not known, depends on the hardware resources the tracking uses, stuff like TrackIR is pretty light and this is around the same lines (CPU). On game-servers it should have no impact as FOIP is handled by spectrum.
Only network shenanigans until 3.3.5 that might have a hit due to that data not being culled properly yet.
Before the game is even completed, gimmicks are little more than a distraction, not an achievement.
Depends, many things considered gimmicks are actually necessary to complete early in dev, especially in terms of tech, otherwise they mean much work to refactor code later.
VR is one of those, I image this one is also one of those as that's how the facial models are being created (aka more of a benefit from what was made for SQ42 applied to SC).
Goats in Space ... a parody of space games, with special emphasis on Star Trek and Star Wars and poking at the crowdfunding aspects of the current generation of space games.

Facial recognition was something EQ2 was playing around with during the EQ2 beta, it was interesting, but it was little more than a gimmick, i just don't think its worth putting time and resources into at this stage of SC's development.

Well the facial stuff to me is not core, but the voice chat is, it's going to feel like another game the moment we can speak and hail other players ships, it's so annoyingly disconnected attm

Gotta agree with you on some of this: Definitely need to get the hooks in early on systems that you want to develop later. Everyone has to remember, however, that Roberts is all about the cinematics. He'll push for that over anything else, regardless of actual utility.
And while I normally don't care for voice chat, it is really appropriate to the genre.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

I would be inclined to agree IF they had put time into developing it etc.
All they have done, essentially, is enable a 3rd party app. And the app developer will have gone out of their way to help since they want lots of games to support FOIP - and their version of it! In the great scheme of things probably not much different from adding mouse and keyboard support. And - based on the roadmap updates - it didn't take long to do.
Was even this "tiny" effort worthwhile? Well it has generated lots of column inches both last year and this on multiple sites so in terms of marketing / advertising alone almost certainly. If some people like it: a bonus. If it avoids the Destiny 1 type VOIP complaints: a bonus. If they can use it in development: a bonus.
Lets not complain about - or give RSI plaudits for - developing this though. They didn't.

So is culling a done deal still??? (rhetorical question)

The OCS build is what is set for 3.3.5 will start testing now, aside of that the last build added in the Scramble Races feature.
