Its just a simple choice you have made at some point - "I want to play games". Where is the sense of achievement in that decision that allows you to feel proud?!? It's just as nonsensical as being proud because you watch films, or proud because you watch tv.

Back when WoW was new, I had to be careful of who I'd tell I played it. I was maybe 13 years old and everyone who didn't play it, or hadn't played it hated it for unknown reasons.
Can't say I'm proud of being gamer either. I didn't achieve it, it's just something that I am. It's just stupid being proud of something you are, if it is indeed something you didn't have to earn, or achieve.

I'm sort of in the same boat as clearly the 20 somethings are more open to video games than people in their "30's plus" around here.

The people I know who don't play video games do a LOT!
They might watch some TV here or there but a good amount of them are doing any number of things, all very positive for mind, body and well being.

I find the cut off age for gamers is around late 30s....Sure there are many above that age that play, but in general the majority are below that and that is who I mainly talk gaming with.
Am I proud? Not really. I don't take pride in playing games, I just play them to have fun.
I've never really hidden it either, but I don't openly discuss it. Coworkers used to ask what I did on the weekend. I'd tell them I was playing games with friends usually, but that was it. They weren't the people who'd understand so I didn't elaborate and moved on with the conversation/job at hand.

I'm proud that I'm basically a nerd. To play games? That's much too simple of an action to be proud of. Also...binge watching... How can anyone do that?

Or do as I do: combine it with gaming (and green...). With strategy games especially, I tend to have a second monitor/tv running with a series on it at all times. If you want to pay attention to the series then not recommended, but if you've already watched it or if it's more audio-focused (i.e. comedy) then it's fine to have on in the background whilst playing. If you're playing a more intense game, especially one that relies on audio cues, then you can't watch series at the same time.

You may have heard people say something like "Yeah I put the TV on to unwind when I get back from work." In other words switch their brains off, gaming is not unwinding its a mentally intense activity.
I don't consider myself to be a gamer. I play games. I used to play sports in my youth, but I was not an "athlete". I like studding economics, but I am not an economist. I think having a hobby or a lot of hobbies can be good.
Personally, I like hobbies that are engaging and active (chess, games, math) over ones that are passive (television), but to each their own.
I am just not sure why gamers feel a need to label themselves. I don't think people who nit walk around bringing it up randomly to people or call themselves "nitters".
I will generally talk about sports, or games with people if they are brought up. These are things I know about and are my hobbies (places I choose to spend my time). I consider myself a father and husband, but I don't randomly bring up information about family to people.
I guess it depends on where you draw your identity from and how important it is to you to push that identity off on others.

Personally, it doesn't matter if someone labels me a "gamer" although I wouldn't categorize it as something to be proud of. Games can be really addictive, often by design. Doubly so for video games and computer games which bear down on the reward loop.
I'm sometimes glad that in my late 30's I have a very busy life although I wish at times I had more space just to play games. I don't, though: rare is the evening I get half an hour let alone an hour to devote to this "hobby". Reading a book or practicing guitar always leaves me feeling more edified, too.
That isn't to say I don't enjoy video/computer games: I do. They are just much less a part of my life than they were 5 years ago and that's OK. I still appreciate them and appreciate discussing them along with the industry. It's been quite a ride.
I still have a few old favorites I log into and play around with from time to time: Vendetta Online or even Toribash (heh). However, I'm much more of a "sampler" than a "deep diver", if that makes any sense.

GOTG is one of my all time favorites but 2 was just bad. Also loved Thor Rag which was basically a GOTG movie in look, theme and tone.
Yeah the first one was great and OMG something went very wrong down at the office when they were making the second one. That celestial being was dumb on Biblical levels--yep I know what I did there.

i am very much indifferent... Right up until someone throws shade at my hobby of choice... At that point i become a raving fanatical... ok a tad bit of a exaggeration. But i get loud and proud. I also wear gaming and geek culture gear without shame, but that is more from a place of childish defiance.. After all at 37 i am supposed to have "grown up" but at the same time nobody bats an eyelid at some dudebro with a team jersey or some other team swag... Fuck that. You carry your hobby and i carry mine... =P
