Juraj Herz, Czechoslovak movie director (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cremator) and a concentration camp survivor has died yesterday. His epilog on Czech TV showed a fragment of an interview, where he said he had no problems shooting a movie at an concentration camp site. He followed his standard procedure and played PC games where lighting rebuilding procedures made him idle.

As a working adult with a home and SO to wrangle with (no kids, thank God) and therefore oftentimes viewed as being "too old" to be a gamer, I am bursting with pride.  Some of my fellow office mates just can't wrap their heads around the fact that yes, I do indeed spend entire weekends in front of my PC, or XB 1, or tablet, or all three.  Yes, I do still stay up til 1 am doing co-op content, grinding, or what have you, and yes, I still show up to work at 7 am.  I have a few (very few) fellow geeks at work and we all share some laughs, but for the most part, coworkers and other people in general seem to be shocked that I don't have some "adult" hobbies (I do) or that - hold on to your hats here - I don't devote all of my free time to raising kids.

For me, being a gamer and nerd in general includes some things that I think mesh together very well: I like games, I like reading, I love sci-fi and fantasy, and generally any form of geeky entertainment.  What's great is that so much of this can be enjoyed from the comfort of my own home, where it's quiet and where there's always plenty of bourbon.
