No, there are only 2 "Have funs" on this site. You and I wrote them.

To answer one of the questions I've seen pop up in regards to watching CitizenCon content after the event:
If I don’t purchase a digital ticket, will I be able to watch streamed content from the event?
Yes.
Eventually, all content streamed during CitizenCon will be available on
our YouTube channel. The opening keynote will be available later that
same day, with all other content following soon after.
>>>>
to which Chris Roberts added (amongst other things)
>>>>
.... But I get that some of you could feel that you've lost something that
you've had previously, and you are not a true Star Citizen fan unless
you've sat through an awkward live-stream with crashes and technical
glitches, so we will have the opening keynote and my closing available for everyone that has a Star Citizen account,
no digital pass required, with the other sessions requiring a digital
pass to see live (and remember you'll be able to see these at your
leisure, no restrictions a few days later) ...
>>> Has cig ever given you something for nothing? <<<
Hope.
Have fun
Not a cult
Hope for a game as complex and freeform as Star Wars Galaxies. With players political struggles like EVE. With visual fidelity like E:D. With an interesting story and characters like Wing Commander. With flying like Freelancer.
Have fun
How you gonna convince Roberts to step down and someone competent to tak his place to make that game?
How you gonna convince Roberts to step down and someone competent to tak his place to make that game?
Double edged sword.
Without Roberts at the helm, there is no money and with no money, there is no game. With Roberts, there is some chance there will be a game in some way or another.
You like it or not, this project rise and fall with Roberts...
Yeah because all the other studios are making games like as ambitious as Star Citizen....
Just because you are doing something others (supposedly) don't does not make it ambitious.
SC is doing more things in a stupid way(module release, seamless world, etc. etc.) - hence all the delays, reworks and poor state of the game, rather than "ambitious"...
Ironically enough this was recently said by Chris Roberts
I hate when things are deliberately locked behind a paywall
What a fucking tool.
As always you forget to mention context.
He was talking about gameplay. And after launch the Persistent Universe to our current knowledge has no "things deliberately locked behind a paywall".
Have fun
What about ships exclusive to backers?
What ships ARE exclusive to backers and will not be available in game once the game has launched ?
The Bengal carrier - which is not available for sale anyway (in game and out of game) ? Certain Vanduul ships (if some are captured) ... although there a retro-engineered human variants available for those.
Or maybe you mean "Life time insurance". LTI is not a ship. In my opinion insurance is a trivial cost sink anyway. So that would be at best a trivial advantage. Speaking from experience in EVE and E:D - insurance money is spare change.
And by the way - the backers ARE those that play this game at the moment :-) There are no others if there is no free fly weekend.
Have fun
So, you're saying there is incentive to be a backer before the game launches?
Yes. The incentive is to help create something special. Something that a lot of people have been waiting for for a long time.
Have fun
Good thing those people enjoy waiting, they are going to continue to do so for quite a while I think.

I hear that next year they will start to sell JPEGS of Citizencon for those that cannot afford to attend in person. The best part is that you can buy them as conceptual art for future Citizencons. ' You can be the first to see what the roundtable will look like at the 2020 Citizencon.
You can own a drawing that depicts Chris explaining how close Squadron42 is at the 2021 Citizencon.
This is pretty amazing stuff...

It's working alright for them. Meanwhile no other studio as released anything similar to what Stat Citizen already provides much less for what it's aiming for lol
They are doing a massive sci-fi mmorpg and a single-player sci-fi opera campaign at the same time.
Good luck to any studio doing that. Even more a new one raised by crowdfunding lol
**snip ** It's all marketing. You've been marketed.
I agree.
i even think Star Citizen will find its way into marketing textbooks.
I consider myself an informed customer. I have one ship. One pledge package. I got "marketed" when this crowdfunding started. After having carefully considered the pros and cons. I support this project based on my evaluation of the team and the project.
Have fun
Oh god please don’t start with the star citizen in textbooks again. You tried that shit years ago and it seems you’re coming full circle again. At least some new shill material instead of re using old stuff again but changing one word
Yeah because all the other studios are making games like as ambitious as Star Citizen....

SC is doing more things in a stupid way(module release, seamless world, etc. etc.) - hence all the delays, reworks and poor state of the game, rather than "ambitious"...
Things like the seamless world and the high visual fidelity, the integration of 1st person and 3rd person view, the increase of the game world "map" size, the procedural generation of whole industrialized planets etc. .... all these "stupid ways" ... have received a lot of praise in the international gaming press.

i would look forward to other studios releasing something similar.

according to you and most MMOs are 'never done' so I guess that means forever right?
If someone told you guys 3 years ago they would have (allegedly) raised 200 million by now would you think the GAME (not the shit they have now) would be released? Even if it were just a single aspect of the supposed 3 prong development? i.e. Star Marine, SQ 42 or the SC 'universe'.
Bottomline theyre not selling enough tickets for people to go live so theyre going to try and theyre going to back channel it so they can try and charge people to see a stream. This serves a couple purposes, one it lets them fleece more sheep it also (theyre hoping) stops real time viewing of whatever movie theyre going to try and pass off as a 'live' gameplay stream and hides the obvious miscues and mistakes they have made in the past. Also allows them to edit out all the 'legit' mistakes made with any 'live' presentation.
If they want to put it behind a wall fine, but a TIERED one? Thats the most egregious thing. Hey if they want to stop guys like me who are critical fine, but ANY person who has been stupid enough to give these guys a penny should be able to watch the stream from the biggest event of their year. (which includes any updates or actual development they might release, because to CiG its all about the show now and not the actual project).
It all looks bad anyway but especially for guys who are in the 'mid' range of say 200-500 bucks. which between 3 and 12 actually released and probably higher quality games not some tech demo shitshow this is.
They've drummed up so much money for this "game". But, they can't even take one day to give back to supporters or potential customers. Everything they do is about taking people's money.
You should look more on the official homepage.
They give constantly - almost every day.
Have fun
The homepage is full of t-shirts and other advertisements. What exactly do they give back to the community?
Oh
Have fun
Jump Point magazine
Hundreds of video blogs
Thousands of articles and stories
Community events
FAQs
Minigames
Contests
BarCitizen Meetings
Game fair booths
Studio visits
etc.
Have fun
Ok. Cool. Working down the list.
So, jump point magazine 1st. .....it cost 10$ a month to read it. So, you still think they aren't after my money?
Have you ever used Google ?
You find almost all Jump Point magazine PDFs for free if you look.
And many JP magazine articles find their way to the official homepage after a few weeks.
Have fun
I don't see where RSI offers this. I googled it and only found it on other sites. This suggests that they maybe shouldn't be offering them? I might be missing something.
I saw comments bringing up BlizzCon Virtual Tickets as a similar example but please note that even Blizzard lets everyone watch the hour long opening ceremony with their major announcements for free and live. That's the part the the target audience is mostly interested in.
It is also beneficial to have the highest possible number of concurrent viewers in a live stream since there are many potential viewers who might get attracted by the numbers. That's a main reason why Blizzard streams the opening ceremony on various live streaming platforms for free and it gets the job done pretty well on Twitch, YouTube and who knows where else besides their own dedicated BlizzCon streaming services.
It's just my thoughts that CIG should reconsider the scale of their event and/or have it funded by sponsors instead of their backers. Even Blizzard've been having a hard time filling BlizzCon with interesting content that cover multiple games and events.
The paywalled content is the low-viewership content not the main presentation, it's like last year those panels where the devs talk about the game art, how they create stuff, etc...
Not agreeing why any paywall on that in the first place, but this is like let's paywall our most uninteresting content that less people care about, kinda of a self-defeating thing lol
.... all these "stupid ways" ... have received a lot of praise in the international gaming press.
Have fun
...and yet it does not invalidate any of what I pointed out.
Impression of nonsavvy crowd isn't really impressive.
It just points out that our opinion is just one amongst many. And not all concur with your point of view.
Impression of savvy AND non-savvy crowd leads to game sales. High game sales ARE impressive.
Have fun
I can't believe I'm doing this, but I have to step in to counter in support of a @Gdemami point here.
His point seemed to be that doing things this way is unique in the industry because it presents a lot of issues in completing, debugging, and optimizing a game to an acceptable point. He explained that it's not impressive to sell that to folks who aren't really aware of the technical challenges that prevent it from being common practice, because they don't have the knowledge or expertise to see the potential pitfalls. You countered that wooing those who don't understand still leads to game sales, implying that makes wooing them with things they don't understand is okay or good.
Ends justify the means type of thing. I personally feel most crowdfunding projects engage in this to some extent, but SC seems to be far and away the biggest offender.
