Lack of fast travel is a negative? To me that's more of a positive. In my experience, fast travel makes the world feel much smaller. If fast travel is in-game, of course I'll use it. But sometimes, I wonder if I would enjoy the game more w/o being able to fast travel everywhere? IDK. :grey_question:

The real questions: how are those swinging horse ball physics??  Do they shrink noticeably in cold weather as advertised?

These are the things that will make it game of the year, no doubt.

Does the story carry over from the first one? It's been years since I played it. I tried to fire it up when it went backwards compatible on the X but didnt get very far.

Getting mine tonight at Gamestop, can't wait..Great review Bill.. I don't know that it will ever come to PC, I would have thought they would have started with porting over the first one..

    It’s a prequel.

I think after the success of GTAO, it’d be money left on the table if they didn’t port this to PC. I suspect by next holiday at the latest, it’ll be there.

Great review bill, It was very informative without being overly long and tedious. You sold me with "If you're the kind who wants to get lost in a world, go hunting, rob banks, find buried treasure, craft new gear, and so forth - you're going to be pleased. "

Just a quick FYI regarding your gripe about the game map i read tomorrow rockstar is releasing a Map app for Android and IOS . You will be able to pull up your ingame map on your phone or tablet in real time and set waypoints on the phone map which will then show up in game so you never have to break immersion while playing. Sounds very cool.

Since this: "Lots of running/horse riding between events" is a pro I might just have to get this game. Do we know if they are considering a pc release? Otherwise it might be time to buy a console.

    Well, we'll see ...

I have a very strong feeling it will be coming to PC. There's no reason to alienate that community, they learned from GTA V that their games can do EXTREMELY well on PC as long as they support the multiplayer component well.

Yeah, it'll definitely be on pc no later than the end of next year. Just in time for a RDR2 Master Edition or something. It just sucks that this'll probably be the last one we see for some time, given that they still haven't released a new GTA (especially since the online mode pulls in so much money with little investment).

For those who waste money buying the game, expect to have to lay out lots of cash in the store!

Good review. It's already preloaded on our PS4. Rockstar is cool about that. I probably won't play until the PC release. The PS4 is my son's gaming box.

The long travel times I think are part of the detail. Everything on the west coast feels spread out, the states are huge, with lots of space in between places.

It sounds like a fun place to chill and explore. There are a couple little things that I think would annoy me, like having to kill people when I didn't want to. The exploration sounds amazing.

No , i could have sworn i read there is a new dialogue system in place when you encounter NPC's in the world. One of the video's you can see on the right , one button is for rob, another is draw weapon then you have 2 buttons that say Escalate & Deescalate (the conversation). But i mean, If you want to play as a Pacifist Buddha Cowboy not sure you will be having a great time, Its a Rockstar game after all lol

I'm going from this sentence in the article:

I lost track of how many times I felt like I had to kill someone to get out of something, even if I didn't want to.
GTA V has a lot of moments like that where the only right way isn't the way you really want it to go down. So, in the end, you do what the game wants from you rather than what you want to do. It's not necessarily a big deal but it's a place where open world and directed narrative clash and it can often feel jarring or confining. Suddenly, you're not in control of your story anymore, the story is.

You need to be a bad ass like me when you play this game

Yeah but there's a difference between killing everyone and killing people who you want to kill.

When I play the Elder Scrolls games I always want a motivation to kill someone. Whether the character is good or bad.

I do rather wonder at why for some players and reviewers this is even an issue. It is the wild west not the Care Bear west. Same goes for GTA where you are a member of a gang not a choir boy. You can play Life is Strange if you want everything to be about making nice choices.

Also one thing I have noticed is reviewers always feel a need to give a nod to the idea that "aren't games where you kill people bad, aren't games with guns bad". Usually not said directly but always a nod to that idea.

Not sure the west was won with a quite word or two. ;)

Yeah you are right, I couldn't answer as i haven't played the game yet. This may turn into a big complaint of mine but i doubt it. Rockstar games i usually behave like a nutjob  unlike Elder Scrolls where i am a Master Thief with morals, I might rob every possession they own while they peacefully dream of sweet rolls & wheels of cheese, leave them broke and destitute, but they will live to see another day.

In reality the west absolutely was won with words, and money not murderers. It was the words on land deeds bought with money (or granted by the US government through settlement acts) that won out. Here is a real story of a real cowboy. Most of it is about legalities and money. The gun shooting was a plain murder just like modern times. The shooter was acquitted under suspect circumstances. He didn't go on to shoot the rest of the "CareBears" in his area. He got lucky because big cattle money hated Pete French and wanted his land so they bought off justice.

Note that Pete and ALL of his ranch hands were unarmed that day while moving the cattle. That's because shooting other people here was rarer 125 years ago than it is today.

So your weird agenda about guns is just you injecting cheetohead politics into something that isn't there.

I think its time for a break from MMORPG for the day
