People are under delusion that TV shows is based on game instead of books, if they read at least one they would know that he hates beard and has longish hair instead of the fancy haircuts he had in game. Heck you could even check the old TV show, they could have picked maybe a different actor, but the look follows the books.
This was always going to be the outcome.

People were expecting a live action version of Witcher 3 but this isnt based on the games.

I really wonder if people here even knew about the books before the story about the author suing for more money.

Hopefully, the rest of the movie will be much better than their casting team.

He might be playing a younger version and that lets let the dumb argument that "clean is sexier and that sells well" pass aswell.
It still doesnt change the fact that he doesnt fit at all, not even as young geralt. He looks like raiden from mortal kombat fused with legolas.
Or tbh, this looks more like a porn parody of geralt.
Eventho i think there are better actors for this role, i do like henry alot and i think he will do just fine.
But since this is not the endresult, lets just hope they will do changes.
I understand that hes playing younger geralt but i still think a bit more of a beard and some scars would fix this for about 90%.

He would probably have fitted in as Geralt better, nothing against Cavill, but maybe he isn't really a good fit visually.

He is too much of an elf lord to be Geralt. They have Richard Armitage voiceacting in Castlevania, they should have gotten him to play Geralt.

This is going to fall upon his acting as he seems too "pretty boy" for the role.

Yeah he needs to have a rougher or more rugged look IMO. I agree with MikeB that Mads M. would look the part more.

I liked Cavell in the role of Superman but in this he looks far too much like panty bait than he does the Witcher at least from the pic seen in the OP.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Its the hair. I like Cavil and think he'll do good, but that wig is terrible.

Seeing him like that makes me think this is gonna be some kind of soap opera. As the Continent Turns. Days of the Witcher's Lives. But yeah, Suzie is right, if this doesn't work out, he'd definitely make a good looking Legalos or even Aragorn.

I mean its not like the man can't pull off an amazing beard. Just look at this:

    That beard can save this.

It's not about Cavill at atll. I think he's a pretty decent actor and I appreciate that he likes gaming and nerd culture. It just doesn't work, but whatever. I'm not a huge Witcher fan anyway. It's more interesting because of the ways they introduced and IP and pushed the bar for open RPGs.
It does seem as though the Netflix Witcher shows stumble from one controversy to another, it wasn't that long ago that fans were complaining about the plan to blackwash some of the characters. What the final product is going to look like, at the moment can't help but wonder if they wouldn't be better off stepping back and doing a huge rethink on their plans for the show, the possibility of it flopping hard are substantial presently. :/

I'll be honest. I think live action is part of the problem. This should be an animated series in the vein of Castlevania.

As long as its more Appleseed and less Pixar, that would be awesome  ;)

Cavill doesn't fix the role of Geralt

100% agree with @Aeander, an animated series like Castlevania would be a better choice.

EDIT: Burn that awful wig with fire! anyone can dye their long hair and look closer to Geralt. Even a cosplayer does a better job as Geralt than Cavill. https://adria.ign.com/the-witcher-3/11509/news/za-blagdane-si-poklonite-ovaj-witcher-cosplay-kalendar

Not sure what people was expecting... This is after all made for mass market... This is not some indie fan film...

Sex sells and you might think what you like but people way smarter than you spend way more time then you on researching how much gruff is to much gruff... And how clean sexy needs to be.

To be fair that is way closer to the original than i thought it was going to be, we also do not know at what point in his life this "exact" image is from. But i fully expect some prettying up to go on to add some of that more normative smolder.

Be glad it is not worse... Because it could have been way worse..

I hope it doesn't become another stage for Hollywood's political agenda.

You mean like you're trying to push an agenda right now by bringing something into it that had nothing to do with the subject matter?

Geralt only has beard in Witcher 3 where he is much older and if you choose not to shave it. But yea I havent read the books but people are saying that he hates having a beard and shaves all the time.

He doesnt fit the stereotype but what ruins it completely is that fking awful wig.

An used mop would look better than that.
