In all the years I’ve been doing this, I don’t think I’ve ever gone into a review anxious. I’ve been looking forward to Anthem since its announcement at EA Play in 2017, but that demo EA put out a couple of weeks ago rattled me. I’ve only spent a couple of hours with the launch version of the game, but I’m glad to be able to report that, at least so far, things are looking a whole lot better.

Very ready to start playing in about 50 minutes and this impression just raised the hype meter.

I'll be playing next weekend, because fuck paying for Origin Access.

Looking forward to it nonetheless. It's the first interesting release to me this year, in a series of desirable 2019 games (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Devil May Cry 5, Astral Chain, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Shin Megami Tensei 5, if it releases this year).

That one isn't personally interesting to me, as I'm not a crafter or builder at all. But if you enjoy it, I hope it is a great game for you.

Im still on the fence about this one but every gameplay video looks vaguely like Bioware made a MHW-esque videogame where you play as Iron Man and it looks like such fun.

After playing for a bit.. the demo they showed was shit and a bad move. It is massively improved. Graphically too.

I'm actually annoyed they gave so many people such a bad first impression.

Early launch does not seem to be going well if you go to the subreddit.

What are they going to do when the flood gates really open and I thought they stated they fixed the looping issue?

Only get one chance to make first impression.

Queue up the ..... but launches always go this way folks
Many launches do go this way.

This forum is littered with games that had difficult launches.

As far as the reddit, well, I went to see what people were saying and it seems that there are people enjoying it. One reddit contributor posted that he "liked how streamers didn't have issues but 90$ of people seemed to"

Is that because of something the streamers are doing or is it that there is a contingent of vocal players who are just looking for issues because that's what they are about?

I have rarely loaded up a game where I found my experience was "as bad" as other players reported.

Not saying this is the case with Anthem but I highly suspect, given some of the posts I've seen, that if I were to purchase this game I'd have a reasonably good time with it and not fret at every little thing.

I have to agree so far. I was only able to play a bit so far due to having to head out. But I'm surprised how improved it feels from the demo. What a horrible representation of the game they had on display it seems.

Still early impressions but so far much better.

Not paying for origin access to start it early, I think its pretty shitty of them to not grant this early access (at least) to deluxe pre-orders, practices like this are exactly why people get disgruntled and hate EA so much, and only serve to undermine peoples enthusiasm for the game.

That aside I am looking forward to the game next weekend.

People typically reach out farther to complain about problems than to praise the lack of problems. A vocal minority sounds like a majority precisely because those who receive a normal/quality experience take that for a given.

They were turning the servers on slowly.. so it was limiting how many people could join at a time. They might still be rolling them out. I got in straight away, thankfully.

You know that doesn't really make sense don't you? If you're going to buy it anyway you can join Origin basic for $5 and play it now for 10 hours. You can then buy the game for 10% off which more than pays for the month of "basic". Cancel it at the end of the month and you've got early access and the game for cheaper. Even better deal if you're Canadian like me :D

That is an option. However, I purchased through Best Buy Gamersclub for a 20% discount and a $10 reward coupon. Much better deal.

First problem was paying attention to Reddit.

Took me 30 minutes to get after launch, after 5 hours of playing I had 2 disconnects and now the servers are being shut down for a restart.

Everything isnt all "end of the world, this is the worst game ever" afterall.

Right. When mine expires, I intend to subscribe to Amazon Prime, since it is one of the last remaining gaming discount options, even if they have substantially nerfed that discount.

It works, its pretty smooth for a launch day but its dull as dirt, the story is disjointed and nothing you can get involved in. Walk - coms - shoot - coms - click something - coms. The slow walking around base camp is asinine too. Its a less involved destiny 2 in weak Iron Man armour. Sadly disappointing.

The demo felt like a poor man's Warframe knock-off, that did literally every single aspect worse than WF.

Generic world and story, spongey enemies, gunplay felt dull like in a Mass Effect game, flying almost impossible with mouse/kb, graphics were ok but not mindblowing, open world felt boring and everything felt like it's a cheap console port... Gonna keep an eye on it, but I don't think I will touch it.

And unlike Warframe, which will be expanded on by a dedicated developer forever, this game will either be turned into conveyor belt ware by EA (a new Anthem every 1 or 2 years) or shut down in a few years.

I'm seeing that most of the technical issues from the demo have been improved upon.

Seems like people are finding out how underwhelming the story is and how basic the pew pew is after doing it a few times.

I've been interested but holding steady, until I see/hear more. No vacation days invested or FOMO over here.  :D

That's the thing with this game. I think it will do alright initially, but I really wonder how many will be left playing it a month or two from now. The first SWBF was a smash hit when first launched and 3 months later there was hardly anyone left playing it. Pretty much the same two maps in rotation all the time and hardly any other modes going.

Wish them luck since I don't want to see Bioware fall before DA4 is released. Then again, I'm concerned EA will want to make it a Live service game and that doesn't bode well for a SP experience.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I doubt it. Looks like an overhyped AAA game, not unique or new in any way that will never develop a big following. The only chance this has to take off is if they aren't greedy with the lootboxes and DLCs and don't push left wing propaganda into it.
Oh please expound. I don't want to make any assumptions on the details.
