So paid for origin premiere to give Anthem a shot and hoo boy am I impressed. The game plays better than the demo by a landslide and the game is a lot of fun. Been playing for a few hours now and I had to stop but didn't want to. If they really keep with the release schedule that they promised it may be hard to pull myself away from this game to play Division 2 next month.
Good job EA. Now don't screw it up
I'm hoping we can live in a world where Anthem and the Division 2 can both succeed. And then I'd also like one more genre entry that radically changes the setting.
We have sci-fi (Warframe). We have science fantasy (Destiny and Anthem). We have post-apocalyptic (the Division and Borderlands).
What I want to see is medieval or Renaissance fantasy. Replace the guns with bows, crossbows, thrown weapons, and magic. Add in intricate melee combat (and do it way better than Warframe). But keep that same gear grinding loop. I suppose you could say that Monster Hunter is that, but it is really more about repeatedly hunting down and killing difficult bosses than a more typical looter experience.
Or, a legitimately crazy idea. Take a supernatural noir setting (like, say, that of the Order 1886) and put one of these games in that context. That could make for some truly fascinating loot.
Seems like people are finding out how underwhelming the story is and how basic the pew pew is after doing it a few times.
You mean the... one person.. that said that?
Didn't you and your mate take vacation time off to play the game? Go enjoy and make the most of your time.
You can put your pom poms down, there's other people trying the game out beyond folks in this thread.
Where does this attitude come from that people who are enjoying a new game can't also partake in discussion about it?
That's ridiculous. You don't have to be glued to it every second of the day. Even if you are absolutely addicted, there are (hopefully) going to be loading times, short, healthy breaks, meal times, etc. that provide ample opportunities to participate in the discourse. We don't want to end up dead in a Korean internet cafe playing Diablo 3, afterall.
(I personally won't be taking vacation for this. My currently scheduled vacation is for Fire Emblem: Three Houses).

What's this joke you keep repeating about taking some time to play the game? I honestly don't get it. You are on a gaming site, you know? It's pretty common place. It's just.. not funny.

Please people quit calling it a shooter. It's an action RPG. It's about as much of a looter shooter as Diablo III.
Honest question: what's the RPG part? Info on that is hard to find. Is it all based on suit customization or does your character actually get developed as well?

Though I have my reservations as well from my time with the demo (not just bugs, but design decisions that vex me), it's worth noting that, if you think the Origins Vault has a few other good titles, you can literally get those titles and play Anthem for the price of the Access Premier month ($14.99/month, which makes me think they intentionally put the nostalgia on that price ), and I don't see how it would be considered a bad buy if you played, say, Anthem through at least the story campaign and got to try/play a few other titles in their Vault you might be interested in.
After taking a look at a couple streams and seeing the actual guts of the game, I think this is a pass for me. Actual combat is the best part, combat variety isn't and the story is NOT Bioware quality. Loading screens galore, strongholds continually dumping people midway and being stuck at doors just like the demo.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
Not paying for origin access to start it early, I think its pretty shitty of them to not grant this early access (at least) to deluxe pre-orders, practices like this are exactly why people get disgruntled and hate EA so much, and only serve to undermine peoples enthusiasm for the game.
That aside I am looking forward to the game next weekend.
What would you say to someone who posted:

Its all a question of degree. And companies have to make a decision. So is a deluxe early access more valuable than an Origin Access? And who should have the better launch?
For - whilst it seems to be pretty solid now - there are, maybe, still a few issues it seems. So maybe think of this as demo part-two? And that these - slightly earlier access people than you - are sorting them out? I think you will agree that you will want everything polished for deluxe early access?

You're tunnel visioning to try make some kind of point that doesn't exist. I checked some sites and made some comments if they went to the bathroom or the many other reasons for pausing a few mins. I'd made 3 or 4 short comments on this site during those 6 hours.

Little more playing, the flight is great but ultimately pointless, all those places you can get to look amazing but are wasted as there is no reason to go up there. Theres no reason to take in the impressive looking world or even look around, its just arrows and notifiers saying "go here" and "go there", have a look around and your squad are sitting there getting bummed at a door, play single player mode and you get to see what a narrow scope the game is with an AI that enemies in Goldeneye on the N64 would put to shame. I bought a month of Origin Access to play this, with the intent of playing it for some time but now will just cancel the sub and be glad I didnt pay for the whole thing.
Its a beautiful game with some nice features but its a complete swing and a miss.
After playing for a bit.. the demo they showed was shit and a bad move. It is massively improved. Graphically too.
I'm actually annoyed they gave so many people such a bad first impression.
I feel the same way. Just the opening 5 minutes of the game is way better than anything is the demo. I gave up on the game after the demo but I have origin Priemere for 2 more weeks. I am shocked how much more better than the demo it is
Been watching ZiggyD play it for a few hours. Looks ok, like a really simple Warframe, but when it matures I am sure it will get better. The RPG part looks rather uninteresting, and that is where it should differentiate itself from Warframe because on pure technique Warframe has set the standard for years to come. Effects are a bit too bright and flashy. Otherwise, interesting too see where it goes and what the META turns into after a year or two of updates.

I could ask why are you here when you've already decided you don't want to get the game. I'm not asking that though, we all just like to voice our opinions about the new shiny. So far from my experences in game i'd rate it about a 6/10. A lot of performance issues, and every mission so far feels like the same thing over and over: travel a bit, fight a wave or 2 of enemies, travel some more, repeat fighting enemies, till mission end. Its quite boring too. The games load times are also horrible and I have it on a fairly new samsung 860 evo SSD god help console players if it takes this long to load on a ssd in a pc, prob takes a minute+to load in on consoles
I also hate the fact I cannot advance the chats with the npc faster, as I can read way faster than they speak, I'd like to be able to click to shut them up and go to the next line instead of being stuck there with my only option to skip the entire thing. Due to this I virtually ignore the npcs other than ones I need to talk to for the story.
Just glad I didn't buy it, and used origin access to try it out, I dodged a bullet here. I've also never played destiny so just getting that out there before you think I am a fan of destiny.

I'll be playing next weekend, because fuck paying for Origin Access.
Looking forward to it nonetheless. It's the first interesting release to me this year, in a series of desirable 2019 games (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Devil May Cry 5, Astral Chain, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Shin Megami Tensei 5, if it releases this year).
Nintendo had a very Solid nintendo direct this week dont dragonquest builders2 with coop
I was even more surprised that Hellblade is coming to the Switch tbh. That will be some true wizardry if it works properly.

I don't think I have tbh. I think you're imagining things. I made a little reply because it looked like you just formed an opinion based on what one person said and made it sound like everyone was saying it.
You, however, are disregarding anything anyone says that is good about it and only focusing on the bad things. I say it's pretty good, you decide to listen to random internet guy number #56748 who said something bad about it instead. I'm not really sure why, probably because of the demo which I would understand.
Plus, a lot of people were more than happy to jump on the other post about issues, people that haven't even tried it themselves. That's basically the definition of a hate train. Again, it's the crappy demo's fault though. I get it, I really do.
It is kind of frustrating when you feel like the game isn't getting a fair shake though when you know different from personal experience.
I hope they do an open weekend shortly after launch to people can make up their own mind about it.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
Besides loot and equipment upgrades, what rpg elements does it have? This is much closer to shooter than anything rpg.
While there is no character progression, there is very wide combination of gear, inscriptions and abilities so it does indeed play like an (mmo)rpg - just the progression and builds are gear based.
I played the Open Demo which was better but still had some issues.
I am relieved that the Origin Access Premier Early Release is running pretty smooth.
In 17 hours of play (yes I need to go to sleep) I've had 2 hiccups while the game saved, while it didn't fail to save, but my game did restart on it's own during these two occurrences. I can only assume that is the current coding to deal with certain hang ups.
Load times are still feel long, but the loading never hung up at 90% point requiring a hard reset or shutting the game down from Windows. Still 15-20 seconds feels like a long time.
Flying and Swimming control is a lot better than the pain it was in both Demos.
Over all at this point the release seems pretty good.
For a third person shooter looter, the game play is pretty fun. And the story and characters are certainly about what I expect from BioWare. I don't think their storytelling has gotten worse, but if you've played their games, you really should have an idea of what to expect, which can make things more predictable for BioWare fans.
Instead of buying the game outright I opted to sign up for Origin Accesss. If it's bad or short lived, I'm only out $16. So far I'm having fun with it on the cheap, so I've easily gotten my money's worth. If the game proves to have any longevity I'll likely dump my subscription and buy the game to save money over time.

Definitely a marked improvement from the demo, no doubt about that. Looking like a solid contender in the looter shooter genre.
