What I actually glean from that is that the timss have changed sufficiently to make those, sometimes mercenary modifications, more profitable and that is a damn good thing. It's called progress.

This Lost Ark thing is tiny potatoes in the grand scheme of attempting to be more inclusive with who you cast in the main hero role.

You seem to have trouble with the concept of "overwhelming majority." 

That concept includes exceptions, some of which are notable. It's why I didn't say "all." But 20 or so vs. 10,000... WTF difference does that make?

See the problem with this is You would rather pretend as if behavior patterns aren't a real thing. If somebody continues to set homes on fire that person is an arsonist. Here is my take:  If an author (creator) wants to change their stuff then that is great.  My issue is with other people going back and changing someone else's life's work.

Example:  Romeo and Juliette 

Maybe parts of that story need to be updated in some opinions.  The way I personally think is proper is the West Side Story route... which re-tells that story but is it's own entity.  Now, as life would have it... probably West Side Story needs it's own refresh but that's another story.

Maybe that makes sense to you, maybe not... but to me that's the way to do it.

Another potentially controversial take:

IMHO If we spent half as much effort into creating new and fun IPs as we did to trying to take old ones and change them then this issue would take care of itself. If the hypothesis is correct, then people will naturally be drawn to the new stuff since it reflects them better and THAT would be what is sold, created and reproduced.

Look.. I know it's easier to say "make a new IP" than it is to do, but if this is important than isn't it important enough to do so?

True, but at some point the linear nature of time and limited nature of attention dictate we have to prioritize what stories we choose to cherish and keep teaching to our children and engage with as adults.

So do we stick with The Illiad?  Is that really that useful for today's students outside of higher Ed Philosophy classes?  I say no.  But others would vehemently disagree.

Do I really need another Spiderman?  Why take the cheap way out and continue going back to the same well?  How about making a NEW Superhero movie?  And make it good... not some lame ass attempt.  I honestly do not care if the "next Spiderman" is white, brown, male, female or pig (yes there is a Spiderpig) because the simple fact that there will BE another one is incredibly silly and a waste of effort/opportunity.

To be fair, the Spider-Man movie you're referencing is objectively a good movie.  Incredible art direction, great dialogue, etc.

I enjoyed The Expanse on Amazon Prime.
One of my favorite characters was Drummer (female/lesbian).
It was a well written, artfully acted character.
In fact, the show had a pretty balanced mix of races.

If the show was recast with entirely white men I'd be offended.

Not because white men couldn't make the show work but because I've a mental image of Drummer and I've enjoyed following along in her adventures.  To cast her as male at this point would be jarring and fragment a story that I really enjoyed.

I feel that way about James Bond.

It isn't that a lead in a spy movie has to be a white male, rather, that particular character is cemented in my mind in a certain way.   To recast him as a black female wouldn't make me angry because I hate black females, but because it would divorce the character from my preconceptions and from 50 years of film history.

If you want to create a spy film with all black leads and it is witty, fun, and thrilling then I'd buy a ticket. 

So yeah, this is an instance of how 'woke' culture ruins some things.

In the press to rewrite entire franchises to score some nebulous victory for equality they trample on the characters we know and love.  I'm not even sure how having a black James Bond advances equal rights - it seems silly to me.  

A positive expression of woke culture would be The Expanse. 
A negative expression of woke culture would be a black James Bond.

Not all objections are racism.
I'd like a little bit of respect for my culture as well.

Just wanted to point some things out about the Expanse I think Drummer is more pansexual because she is in a marriage with 3 husband and 2 wives (not sure about the number) and I think they all sleep with each other. 

She is also not like that in the book because I think she is in a monogamous relationship in the book.

Her character on the series is also amalgamated with Bull's character (which broke my heart since I loved Bull but I understand why they did that).
