SC just blamed its incompetence on backers

PigozzPigozz Member UncommonPosts: 886

tldr:
RSI is butchering roadmap to show only the projections for the NEXT patch release and basicaly blamed the community for it. To quote a small part of the statement:

"But there still remains a very loud contingent of Roadmap watchers who see projections as promises. And their continued noise every time we shift deliverables has become a distraction both internally at CIG and within our community, as well as to prospective Star Citizen fans watching from the sidelines at our Open Development communications.
"

L O L

You can't make this up
By the way they removed like 80% of features from 2022 roadmap..you know... from the new and uber cool second coming of jesus roadmap they glorified two years ago with this:

"You know, with this release of the roadmap, I have very much made sure and asked the team that what we put in there is what we can achieve with what we have right now....you know last time, we had if we feel we can do this we put it in the roadmap, this time it's what we are pretty damned sure we can do."

I suggest you check the SC forums, A LOT of people are angry and I dont blame them - this is probably the most ridiculous, arrogant and straight up unbelievable amount of audacity that is hard to even comprehend

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

Literally can't make it up.  From the press release "We no longer wanted you or our developers to focus so much on when a feature was coming out . . . "

Gee, I wonder why that is....

I will go way out on a limb and predict that SC is not going to officially release this year.

Just well highlights they have absolutely no idea when "release" might be for either game, so better to hide this from public view.

‘Dear customer, would you like the Chris Roberts special where you get the blame for holding the right person accountable and then get mocked because you believed them? Have we got a sweet deal for you. For an extra 5 bucks you’ll get your personal roadmap to a roadmap and for just 10 bucks you can get a jpeg of the CIG team giving you the finger. We also have forum perma bans on discount, limited quantity though so act quick. Feel like an idiot, get the Chris Roberts now’

Nope, they are happy with what they are getting for their money..as well as what they aren't getting which is weird to many of us, but hey it's theirs to spend.

I keep trying to tell that to the SWIFT Financial Network but they insist the bank has to be ISO20022 / CBPR+ compliant by Nov 2022, the date is the date.

I even said they should talk to you since they clearly don't understand how software development is supposed to work.

Good thing we only work on moving trillions of dollars around the world on a daily basis and nothing so difficult or important like video game development.

    ;)

I think you definitely have a point, but it is the other way around. CIG announces this before a free flight event in the hopes that people will be distracted by the new shiny instead of the obvious 'moving away from any accountability even further.' It is the same tactic when you keep posting huge donation numbers focussing purely on the cash raised instead of the quality of the game (with which it might have a connection) or the attitude and quality of the company (which is absolute rubbish with an absolute contempt for its backers and has no connection whatsoever with funds raised).

TLDR: SC might be awesome, with which I agree, but that says nothing about the company making it, which is horrible and keeps moving further and further away from the original timelines, communication, promises etc. CIG created this circus and now tries to blame its audience for wanting the show. Hell, they even distributed all the flyers for the show which they are now trying to take back. Your conclusion to all that is that it must be the audience at fault, weird stuff really.

Also interesting to see is that when you take the donation numbers and the numbers of citizens over a longer period of time you see the average donation increasing. That means the money is coming in faster then new people. In other words, the old citizens keep throwing more money at the project while the new citizens are slowing down. There is a crucial tipping point somewhere where the money will start to solely (or 90% or so) come from the old backers. That is not a healthy situation, for any project.

Disclaimer: I, for now have stepped away from SC, it has become unplayable on my current machine. Once there is a hardware upgrade on my side I will join again.

The whole idea of the roadmap is absurd, surely players realise that if you can tell when all these various elements of development are going to be done you could just pick a launch date and be spot on? CIG has been hoisted on their own petard, players will hold you to the fantasy schedule you have given them. Bearing all this in mind I really wish the items on here by Christina would put a question mark over the roadmap for any game.

As a long time project manager I find overly detailed roadmaps to be largely a waste of time, even more so when used to try to predict events very far into the future.

So in a rare occasion I actually understand their actions and their line of reasoning why they are doing this.

Some customers in general too often take projections as promises, and their noise can definitely rile up others which in this case could drive off potential new backers which RSI can't afford.

These are logical moves even if many don't like or agree with them.

So make roadmaps of achievable goals and not airy fairy ones that you know at the outset cannot be done. Why does it have to be grand be modest and honest.
