I even appreciate how they've done mundane fetch quests cutting down a lot of the grind those usually have. None of this fetch me 20 rabbits - most just have you fetch 1 or 2 things and you're done.

This.
Moreover the stupid quests are usually on the way to the main one, so they are completed efficiently.
That said, meaningless quests are still meaningless, and I wish that PvE could be done better. At least, and as you mentioned, a bunch of dungeons are great.

Some of the goofier quests got me thinking about quest quality in ARPGs. And my conclusion is that they are all pretty bad really. In Diablo, POE, Grim Dawn, Lost ark, etc.
I'd go so far as saying that bad quests are a defining characteristic of the genre lol.
Oh and BTW... I'm definitely playing and thinking of this as an ARPG and that's what I compare this to and why I'm enjoying it. I think it would be unfair to compare quest quality here to say, ESO, SWTOR, and all the other MMOs with good stories and quests.

If you have a subscription it is free, if not then a small amount of silver (in-game currency). It is very cheap so it's not a fee that you would care about when you are like above level 15. But, if you got in F2P, and don't have enough money right from the get go, sell (most) of your starting potions to be able to teleport around faster. Sailing: To get your first boat you have to progress the story till you arrive at Wavestrand Port and after a series of quests you will end up with 'Set Sail!' which would unlock your first ship. You can sail to explore the open seas to get collectives, loot, treasures, quests, etc. and travel to different continents and islands.
Sheet Music: There are various songs with different functions. One of these functions is teleportation. You can use it to teleport to your Stronghold, one city set as home, Trixion (starting place of the game with Beatrice), leaving the dungeons, and also discovering hidden paths.
Bifrost: Yes, this game isn't afraid to just to use what is already popular. I mean why re-invent the wheel right? You can use Bifrost (it is accessible via Bifrost button under the mini-map) to save locations then teleport to them. Yay

They seem to have decided, "well players are mostly going to be in end game, so lets put all our time into dungeons and so on." It is different to the front loaded approach many MMO's have where everything seems good until top level. For me not having a decent open world would be a really big draw back though, interested to see if you guys are still playing in early April and the "end game" is good enough.
i've been enjoying it. got a 476 berserker so far. I've enjoyed the levelling dungeons, and about to get started on the rohendel quest line. Not sure what to think of the island hopping... the chaos dungeons are pretty mindless , and only tried one guardian raid so far as a solo and it didn't go well. I hear the bosses are pretty spongey... we'll see

I downloaded it and started to create one of my all time favorite classes: the Bard. Except, all I got was a giggling girl in a tiny mini-skirt.
No. Just, no.
That usually bothers me a lot too but I decided to grit my teeth and drill down to the game's substance despite its gender locked teen supermodel skin,..
.. and daymn, this game ain't half bad at all.
My main is a sorc and she's level 50 and I'm leveling a bard as well.
It has a good skill system, albeit class-locked, with impactful mods you can make to the skills.
The scenarios (dungeons) are some of the best I've ever seen and best of all, they scale appropriately from 1-4 players so you can solo them easily (while leveling) if you want.
The epic scenarios I've seen so far - one castle attack and one defense - are really top notch and feel truly epic.
I even appreciate how they've done mundane fetch quests cutting down a lot of the grind those usually have. None of this fetch me 20 rabbits - most just have you fetch 1 or 2 things and you're done.
All in all enjoying myself. Best $0 I've ever not spent
Ok, you almost talked me into trying it again. Maybe I can get a 6-pack and just leer my way through.
Not sure the name of the fight, (Berea?) but it was the closest I've felt to being part of the Battle for Helms Deep.
Defending the walls against the demon hordes, manning the cannons, big fun that, falling back to a final defense, only to be rescued by allied forces both magical and human.
Then came the horror of the cleric invasion, I exacted divine retribution in a most demonic manner.
Definitely a good story and battle worthy of any MMORPG I've played....
More than worth the price of admission, looking forward to running that fight again on my next character.

Yeah I thought that defense scenario was even better than the previous epic one where you help retake the king's castle from the regent.

It had more of a sense of urgency or panic, "what if I fail? " came to mind, and I was determined not to fail.
Probably can't, but first time through, all controls being unfamiliar, felt a twinge of uncertainty almost, rare in this or most other games outside of a boss fight)

Is this a "dungeon", part of the open world questing or some sort of pop up boss?
Regarding dungeons; it is best to solo them on 'normal' mode during leveling, because they give the same amount of XP and you can do them faster this way, that is if you are looking to level up fast.
Don't forget your powerpass, you can boost 2 alts to level 50 for free.
Be sure to do your dungeons while leveling on both normal AND hard as you need to do both difficulties for the adv journal. Hit N on KB.

Yep. I do my revisiting after 50 though. That is if you want optimum leveling.
My suggestion to everyone is to take it slow and enjoy the journey. Since I had played this game several times before I just wanted to get to the end game.

Since I'm not sure that I will endure the "end game" for very long, that's exactly what I'm doing. And those super-epic battles are definitely worth it... specially considering the price of the game. I'm at 57 hours played, I already got the little money I invested in my silver founder pack back anyway, even if I stopped now. Definitely a very good game in the category of ARPGs.

You can continue doing quests and scenarios after you hit the soft cap. There are at least five times more quests and contents that you can do after you hit 50. I put one my alts for that matter only. I enjoy it more than other stuff on a daily basis.

So here I am today, just leveled my gear to 460, and I only found the 3rd Ark a day or so ago.
I still only play one character, a Gunlancer and have not really begun to spend any time on island hopping, rapport gathering, dungeon running (neither Guardian or Abyssal) enhancements, market trading, material farming, crafting, card / recipe collecting, Myoko seed discovery or a host of other activities.
I could be at this for quite a while.
Got my first taste of the dark side though, found myself just a little short on materials to get my gear up to 460, so I spent a small amount of the gems I received from my Platinum starter pack to buy them.

I definitely sense a trap.....
I can remember our guild leader giving a detailed account of the way BDO gear leveling worked on discord, I looked at a couple of guides and videos to confirm what he had said. I was about three months in and had not realised how bad it was, I had started the process but not grasped how much grinding or indeed what the P2W work rounds were. No more than two weeks later I left the game.

I think many of us really liked BDO until we got to that stage and saw the connection between the cash shop and the gear improvement grind.
In retrospect, things like "cosmetic items" that had game play advantages attached to them should have clued me in earlier. IDK about others but I shrugged those off as being small potatoes because I liked many things about the game
Lesson learned. I will never again, ever, play a game where gear improvement attempts have a chance to break the item, which of course means that cash shop items to give you better odds are their P2W bread and butter money makers.
