People will play garbage

delete5230delete5230 Member EpicPosts: 7,081

Even before release, even when alpha reviews are negative.  All this does not matter. People will play garbage if it's hyped or advertised, popular name backing it, or simply pre-picked by word of mouth as the new fad.  Even knowing in your mind it will be boring too easy or just plan bad, it doesn't matter…. Millions will play everything anyway.

I believe the reasion is that " mmorpg players are starving", coupled with Free to Play.  What better way to play a game for free by having a game ftp ?

I knew New World would be boring. You did too.

I know Pantheon will be unplayable and completely broken. Here's the funny thing you know it too !

I know Ashes of Creation is very complex, too complex, it will be completely broken for years. Yet in our my minds on opening day will still be fooled anyway.

Nothing matters, their will be millions, playing everything .  Complaining always comes later, but purchase first !

This is why games last 30 days, people must play garbage.

Vanguard, NDA or not, word was out that it was completely broken and un playable, no one cared.  I would have too if I had a good computer for it.

Wildstar, need I say more.

Warhammer, and I'm just getting started.

I would not say we knew about the issues with MMOs that have been released, or know about those that have yet to be released. But we should know enough to be cautious and not stake money (because this is a gamble) on early access, pre-order or crowd funded games. If you feel you must support CF funded games and I can see why you would want to, just put a small amount in, which you would not lament if it the game stalls or goes south.

This is all true...... But one of my larger points are "people are really starving for a good mmorpg".... They would do anything ANYTHING if you know what I mean :#

That's why I always wait for a game to be actually released, and then read the reviews. And if it's an MMO, I'll probably wait another year to play it. A lot of things can change in a year.

Exceptions are when I get into the early beta before release. I played LoTRO and ESO in closed beta (of course it was a real beta test, not a cash-grab pre-release test). I bought both games on release, not needing to read the reviews.

In the meantime, I'll go back to City of Heroes, or LoTRO, or SWTOR and take another character through. There are still things in those games I haven't done, stories I didn't do yet, etc.

Vanguard was a great game. I still miss it.

And yes it was buggy. It also was insanely big, and extremely fun to play.

P.s.: Oh and they fixed it for seven years ... it wasnt that buggy anymore in the end, obviously.

Yes, as usual I waited for a while after Vanguard came out to play. By then, many of the bugs were fixed, and on a SSD drive it ran pretty well. I'd play again if it was still up.

True, and quite often people call a particular game "garbage," (while never having played it even) because it doesn't deliver the gameplay experience "they" desire even if millions more are quite satisfied.

I know because I've often done so, BDO, FFXIV, Fortnite, Minecraft, COD "xx", GTA 5, clearly all "trash" in my book, right?

Then there's games like Animal Crossing..

Rehash of the same complaint just a different format lol. Yeah everyone likes different things. I mean lots of folks hate STO, yet thousands play daily, including me; just the events and new content. Is it the best MMO I've played? no, but it's something to do. Same with Lost Ark. Find something to play even if it's not your main MMO and you will have less to complain about.

Two things I can take from this post,
First, you admit lots of folks hate STO, I didn't even take that into consideration, so its even more so.

Second, you admit its just something to do.

You would have been better simply not posting..... Only kidding, sorry

Like most things in life, it's not as clear cut as garbage game or not. Most people, consciously or not, base their decision on weighing fun aspects of a game vs the negative aspects (bugs, broken systems, bad design, etc) and if fun is greater than the pain points more than likely they will keep playing until the scale tips the other way.

Also, most people are willing to try a product for themselves so the can make the above calculation for themselves, something I applaud.

I really enjoyed the Diplomacy game. Was hoping that would some day become a standalone game like The Witcher did with Gwent.

Agree to disagree although I quite enjoyed vanilla wow. Shadowbane, bugs and all, was the greatest mmo ever. Crazy how people's opinions differ. :)

Loved Vanguard and the diplomacy minigame was fun I just sucked at it. I kid you not, my IQ dropped 100 points when doing diplomacy. :(

I miss it too, It could have been my second best game, however it took years for it to be fixed. Infact I haven't jumped in until Sony owned it and made the new starter island.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

I didn't know how I would feel about New World as I knew my system wouldn't handle it so there was no reason for me to pay it much mind.

I don't know Pantheon will be unplayable and completely broken. I don't know that Ashes of Creation will be either. I wait until games are at released so I can play and judge them for myself, though these will probably be too much for my system as well.

Vanguard I didn't play live. WildStar, yes you need to say more. Warhammer, I didn't really get a chance to play much of but some still enjoy it.

It took SC roughly a decade to gather 3,5 million “fans.” WoWs Battle for Azaroth did that in a single day. That is after pretty much all WoWs expansions did slightly less on release day but still 3+ million a piece.

But, perhaps SC will reach these numbers too, when it launches…
