This forum needs more threads like this one. I don't mean about Fractured Online in particular. I mean someone who likes a relatively unpopular game explaining why he likes it. That's a lot more interesting to read than "everything is awful" whining.

Maybe if game companies went back to making games people want to play we wouldn't have so many targets for our angst.

Thats what we need, more threads about games that only 1 person enjoys. That will certainly bring in the crowds.
Have a fanboy of a game, and let them defend it for years, because that has never happened before on this site. I cant think of a single game this has ever happened for. What a unique idea.

Well I am neither negative or positive. I just tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may. I dont think we should slant the threads in any direction at all.
If a game is good, let people say so, if its not, let people say so. Not really a hard concept IMO.
Common sense, if as Quiz says all these games are unpopular, dont you think its reasonable to assume more negativity than positivity? What you do you expect? A big hand holding circle singing merrily about how great the extremely unpopular game is. LOL get real.

You know what would really drive positive threads? Good games that have a wide following. You cant please everyone, but you can please alot of people.
WOW, ESO, GW2, FFXIV subreddits and official forums are that way --->
Be nice if there was new games that are not 12-20 years old.
This just proves my point, that if games were good then people would praise them. There would be no need to be having a couple of fanboys having to defend an unpopular game.
When New World was in early access, the boards were full of praise. I was one of those voices, once people got to end game, they changed their minds because the game had a garbage end game. Guess what, New World ended up losing 99.7% of their playbase also. The negativity was just a reflection of the larger player base.
Valheim at release was pretty much all positive.
Its not like this forum is overly negative, in fact I would say the positives here overrepresent the general population of gamers. Mainly because its an mmorpg fansite, so thats to be expected.
What the industry really needs is the hard truth, that will penetrate the bubbles the Devs of these trash games are living in.
I think I've only started one thread and I'm talking about a positive experience. I don't consider myself a fanboi, but I'm certainly a fan.
I won't counter well founded criticism on the title.
What I do see is a studio with developers that are in love with the product, and they've been working hard, they've been extremely transparent, and they communicate daily on the discord. It will always be a niche product; however, if they keep at it, we may have a No Man's Sky turn around in the works.
This is the UO fix I'm been seeking for 20 years.
I could also fail, but at this point I consider my money well spent. I also appreciate what they're trying to do - and they've the first PK justice system I've seen that has PK salt being generated.

Warg I wasnt talking about you specifically, I think you have been pretty fair and realistic when discussing about games.
My issue is with this idea that MMORPG doesnt have enough threads of unpopular games where a couple of people are just telling us all the positives of a game, as if that is some rare occurance here. How many pages of Star Citizen do we have. I remember pantheon had a few fanbois for years and years just in complete denial. Embers Adrift, fanboi after fanboi with the I made it to level 5 and love the game, then never hear back again because the game is trash later down the line.
This site is full of those threads.
No this game will not have a No Man's Sky turn around LOL. This game generated 5k users which is about $100k. Its not even enough to have 1 real dev full time for a year. Its already on life support and it just came out. You keep dreaming though.
Well, my hunch I wouldn't be playing this long proved true. It's an extremely bland variation on every other Isometric game I have played up to now, although I do think the Justice system is on point.
I tried Craftopia and found that to be a more exciting game with an excellent automation system, pet taming, more interesting combat, nice puzzle dungeons and lots to build and craft. It's certainly unusual for me to like a game's crafting aspect, that's for sure.

I agree.
Given what can be done with graphics in the isometric space I'd definitely say Fractured Online is on the bland side of things.
I'm on the fence when it comes to having resources that exist only in PvP land or only in PvE land. I like a bit of excitement, it depends what the gank ratio is when I go to harvest in PvP land.
Many quality of life things don't exist yet. Cannot ignore people in chat, cannot mail someone a note, next to no tools for grouping. They've some work to do in these areas, for sure.
None of the rewards for subscription packs have been implemented yet.
The game is grossly unbalanced. Many skills need adjustment.
Once you get a horse you're set, it cannot be killed. This has destroyed the horse market. I'm storing them as a future update will cause horses to age out. I'll wait for prices to go back up.
Just today I let off flooding the markets with low level gear and horses as the ROI left something to be desired. I've gone onto harvesting ore/coal and selling that so my gold generation has gone from maybe 1K an hour to 4K per hour, which I need because I hope to buy another account - which means I'll be maintaining 3 houses.
I still haven't upped my gear to the point where I can make bank killing mobs but to do that I need to slide over into PvP land. Thankfully I found a large guild that makes runs over there - and actually kills PKs. That should lower my risk somewhat.

In case you haven't noticed, Wargfoot is not a blind fanboy of Fractured Online. For example, he's not trying to convince us that the hack that deleted all of the player cities was actually a good thing. He hasn't been hyping the game for years.
There are way too many games out there for anyone to seriously play every single game, or even anything more than a tiny fraction of them. Figuring out which games that you haven't played are good enough that you're likely to enjoy them is difficult. A game that a relative handful of players genuinely enjoy may be worth checking out, but one that no one likes surely isn't.
You know what would really drive positive threads? Good games that have a wide following. You cant please everyone, but you can please alot of people.
Have you really never enjoyed an obscure game? There are some genuinely good games out there that languish in obscurity without a huge marketing budget.
Not very long ago, I picked up a game on Steam called Mazeman. It launched two years ago, and has a grand total of 20 reviews on Steam. But it cost me all of $5, and I'm having fun playing it, so it was well worth the price.
There are probably hundreds of other obscure games out there that I'd enjoy if I tried them. But it's hard to know which ones, as they're buried among many thousands of other games that I wouldn't, some of which are truly awful.

Someone having something positive about a game. How novel.

I dont think the number of people playing is necessarily a key problem for me at first.
I have played many games either early in dev, or early access, alpha, beta ... they usually have small player bases at that time. If I think the game is good I usually let people know about it. Examples like Vampire Survivors and Valheim. Usually those games go viral later down the road.
There have been other games like New World, and Embers adrift that I thought were good early on. In those games I praised early on, however I wasnt in denial later in the game when the gameplay was bad, so I changed my opinion and let people know as the information changed. I let people know what those issues were. Surprise surprise I wasnt the only one, and as people caught up to my level, most expressed the same feelings.
So if you have a game thats good and has only 20 steam reviews, then maybe it is a secret opportunity.
On the other hand, I think what you are asking me, is if there is a game that I really enjoy but nobody else does? Answer: I cant think of a single example, just looking at my huge steam library and I cant find anything that meets that criteria. I CAN find examples of popular games I dont like, so obviously I am more picky than the average person.
If you tend to like games that nobody likes, then I would think thats because the bar you set for your own enjoyment is extremely low OR your tastes are just extremely unique. In either case I think the average user should be warned about that. I know if I had some extremely niche taste I would certainly let people know that prior to recommending it to a family member or anyone for that matter.
Have you really never enjoyed an obscure game? There are some genuinely good games out there that languish in obscurity without a huge marketing budget.
Yeah I dont really believe there are genuinely good games that languish due to marketing if it releases to steam. Steam has marketing built in for indie devs. If the game is 95% positive it will get added to people that like similiar games. There are also hundreds of thousands of people that are on the lookout for games with high ratings like that.
It will eventually get word of mouth and go viral if its truely good.
Most people give a positive for something even if its just decent or better than below average. The bar for a positive rating is extremely low. So a truely good game will have an overwhelming positive rating most of the time.
For me, there are very few amazing games that exist. For someone with low standards, yeah I guess steam has an entire site full of amazing games for them.
I dont think its fair to fanboy something by completely ignoring all the negatives about a game that they know is extremely niche or just trash to most people. I dont think most readers want to be conned into buying a game only .00001% of gamers will like. If it only appeals to that small of a player base, then I feel it should be prefixed with if you like X, X, X, X, X, X and then you might like this.

This I actually agree with.
It's unfair to player to say that a game is amazing because of x, y and/or z knowing that it has components that are known to be stumbling blocks for players or that are knowingly niche game play elements.
Kind of why I was pissed with NC Soft when Aion was being released as players were asking if they had to partake in pvp and the developers kept spouting the "you an play as you want" mantra; never actually answering their question.

It's good to see a thread about someone who likes something and not the usual X is bad. I'm actually surprised that this thread is 5 pages long.
It's 5 pages long cause you got the usual circle jerk vs the usual anti circle jerk going on.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
btw I don't mean to use these terms in a judgy manner, only a descriptive
one and sometimes I agree with the circle jerk group and sometimes
the anti circle jerk group.
