Why can't they just say it is an open world PvP game? Of course it might frighten players who are not inclined to PvP. So they use vague terms like no PvP zones. Does that mean it is all PvE then? What does no PvP zone mean? It can mean there is no PvP zone or that all of it is a PvP zone.

If it was a PvE game they don't say there are no PvE zones because it is not an issue. However not knowing the game is an open world full loot PvP game is not a good thing for a buyer. It should be clearly informed on the game description what type of PvP the game has. Describing it as having a choice is also a lie. You don't get to choose. You either play the PvP game or don't.

They must have taken a doctorate in double-talk.
Totally agree with you, I feel that games should be upfront and honest about what they are putting out.

The debate I was having with KnightFalz, Well, I thought it was a stupid of him to pick that hill to die on, defending that kind word play and double speak

I know the question is not for me, but I recently spent 130 hours in a little game named "Enshrouded". It's like a mini-MMO you can play with up to 16 friends. A lot of fun.

I think I read about that one, running around inside the veil or something for increasing stints of time as you progress?

What brought it to an end so soon for you?   ;)

Keep in mind, I'm always in for the long haul, our current 7D2D playthrough started last June.

I've logged more than 1650 plus Steam hours across 1092 game days on our server (we use 2 RL hrs =1 game day)

We are waiting on an overhaul Mod called Undead Legacy to be updated for the current A-21 Alpha build where we'll reset the server and do it all again.

Typical of today's gamers. Play a game for 20+ hours, then return it.

Couldn't get into Palworld, too "Asian" styled for me.
Couldn't get into Nightingale either, I found the game absolutely stunningly beautiful, but the UI is a nightmare and combat is sluggish to me.

You claim to be keen on honesty but demonstrably have less regard for accuracy.

Let's set it out for you: When as Game is a Full Loot Open World Game.

Ungood's Stand: Companies should be Upfront on Honest about their Product. Ungood Supports things like Mortal Online 2's Steam Review that says:

A persistent sandbox world. No classes or levels. Train the skills you want for your own unique build. Player-driven trade, economy, and housing. Millions of crafting combinations. First-person immersive combat. Exploration. Bosses. Full loot, full PvP. The world of Nave is yours - who will you be?

This gives a very direct, straight forward explanation of the game mechanics, and what a player can expect logging in. There is nothing deceiving going on here, it's Full Loot, Full PvP. Right there, lays it out.

KnightFalz's Stand: Companies can be as deceptive as as they want and it's on the player to have to hunt down the info if they want to know what the real deal is.

Knightfalz supports things like Mortal Online Home site review that says:

    Basic game info
Mortal Online is a first-person MMORPG in a fantasy setting.
In Mortal Online there are no PvP zones, only an open realistic world where you are free to choose your own path. Experience true real-time combat where you decide every move your character makes and where your personal skill really matters.
Build your own house, or set up a guild to build a keep. With enough power, violence or diplomacy, you and your allies will be able to rule an entire nation.
Choose from many different races and professions. You decide your own style of playing and whether to focus on PvP or PvE, both sharing the same game world. Devote your life to crafting, combat, magic or trading. Discover new skills, tools and resources. Or be the first to explore new areas to put your name on the map.

Notice very clearly that this does not lay out what to really expect when getting into the game, they do not make it clear or concise that this is in fact a fully open world PvP game, they use really deceptive word play to dance that point, going so far as to try to play it off that you can chose between playing the game PvE or PvP. Also notice that there is no mention at all about it being full loot.

That's what Knightfalz supports and defends.

Like I said, you have picked a very strange, and in my person opnion a very stupid, hill to die on.

But you keep doing do you.

    1) The game is said to have no PvP zones.
    2) The game is said to have PvP.

Both can only be true for a game with open PvP.

It is perfectly clear to any reader that pays attention to detail.

I'm not the one choosing to stand on a stupid hill.

Now I always go to Reddit and the Steam forums to find out. I ask specifically .

You know Corepunk, they say you can opt out of PvP. So the obvious interpretation is that you can avoid PvP.  Well that is not what flagging for no PvP  means though in Corepunk. It means you cannot attack others. They can however attack you and get a penalty.

I wouldn't have known that had I not gone to their website and made an account and asked. I decided there and then they should have made that crystal clear and not write nonsense like 'flagging for no PvP' , that it makes no difference to whether another player can attack you was not made clear. The best part was others came and argued it was clear since it was a PvP game.

Like I was fully prepared for Archeage because they explained their system in detail. So I played and I travelled when the areas became non PvP. There, regions in the game constantly change from peaceful to war over hours in a day. I even made goods and transported them over peaceful and slightly PvP where it is not yet fully PvP to make it to the broker.

Bless Online didn't make it clear that the item you buy to make yourself immune wore off and that you need to keep buying it and that it was with real money.

    Scumbags one and all!

IT used to crack me up when these games would say there is a penalty system in place, and oh it would be so bad if players killed other players...so you play their game and find out that is a flat out lie.... I never played a single PVP oriented game where the penalty system wasnt a total joke...There was ALWAYS a way around it and it was no deterrent whatsoever.

Fractured Online is the first game I've played where the justic system worked.
    Unfortunately, they're really struggling.

I've seen many reds quit or go neutral because of hoards of sheriffs.

It is a really tricky thing for a dev team to manage, keeping both sides happy enough to keep playing and paying.

CCP has done a good job balancing on the knife blade to make sure neither PVP or PVE players are ever truly unhappy enough to quit, at least for their core audience.

Of course this also means neither side is truly happy, sort of weird really how that's works.

In Fractured Online we've a situation where a friendly player (helps noobs, organizes raids) has opened many accounts and grabbed about 1/4 of the cities on the map.  He gives tons of stuff away, but in some people's thinking, he has too many damn cities.

The thing is you can siege a city or grab them yourself (still some available); however, people are still complaining that player X has too many cities and is exploiting.

Here is the good part: The players that are complaining are the people who will murder a new player, and when the new player complains they'll say, "Git Gud".

So when it comes to owning cities my response is: "Git Gud".

The howls of pain and river of tears has been worth it.

The Point: Most of the "Git Gud" crowd are candy-arsed whinners when you actually get them backed into a corner.

Is their Upkeep required for the cities?  That is usually the mechanic that restrains such tactics.

Yes, significant upkeep, granted, sieges aren't working properly yet.
It is one of those things that will fix itself in time.
