Please cut and paste me the relevant patch notes where it says my character has been in anyway nerfed.
I have read all the patch notes.
I think you are being misleading to say that "every MMO nerfs". They don't.
It is not fair to my mind after seeing a minor and unnoticeable patch in one aspect of one power on one character type in any specific game, to then go on to dismiss that particular game as nerfed or to go on to compare those nerfs to the (similarly) minor ones, the global ones and repeated global ones in COH.
I'm aware that other games have nerfed. But I believe there is a very clear distinction between most MMO's and CoH in this department. I think it's helpful to make a comparison between all the other characters I've had in other games, and the one I had in COH. It adds perspective.
There may have been nerfs in any or even many of those games, but they have not affected me personally. In COH they got everyone. Twice. They also did some relatively minor ones that got me and a few others on another occaison.
I heard that SWG also has been very heavy handed on the nerfs. I didn't play that game but I noticed the scale of the feedback. You only need to witness the number of times the word nerf comes up in COH discussions to realise the scale of the issue.
Only in your dreams, every class in WoW has received nerfs. Just like every class in any mmorpg that has been out for a reasonable time has. Even if it were true, in what twisted world does a statement that all games nerf become discredited simply because they haven't affected you directly?
The point has been proven, WoW like all other games has had nerfs. The fact can't be avoided.
I didn't like ED, mostly because I'm a scrapper, and it ment that my defenses that basically only took resist damage, resist less. Will it kill City of Heroes? Hmmm, probably not, but it will contribute to the downfall.
The game if you call it that is simply evolving into more like regular online games. The way we seem to be headed is "Working hard is fun" the same as other games such as everquest. ED encourages this by making people need to take breaks between fights (stamina recharging less), and recharge rates of powers being slower (even empathy).
All ED does is drag the game out more. Missions that could have been cleared in ten minutes takes twenty, and taskforces that took about 4 hours now will take about 5 or 6. The waiting around does impact players, but I think even though most aren't fond of it, they'll deal with it.
The actual beginning of the end for City of Heroes involves several factors, not just ED. These are;
1.) Refusal to update the text windows to allow for easy communication. If I can't see what's going on because seventy people are spamming a channel (broadcast channel) I'm not going to probably get notice that a taskforce is going on. There is the teammate find window, but when most people set their search comments to "Not looking for a team" you'll most likely solo.
2.) Due to both the lack of people interested in teaming (at least mostly on guardian where I play) and people leaving to play City of Villians, you end up soloing a large part of the game. Soloing missions is hardly fun, and excludes a lot of the upper level content like Taskforces, Archvillian Missions (large amount of 40+ missions), monsters, and most trial/hazard zones. At least if you want to play it safe. This will be the biggest killer of City of Heroes. You can see it clearly when there's 8 villians for every hero in a PvP zone. Simply put, there's nothing to keep people playing heroes, when Villians are the new fab thing. I don't blame people for wanting to play something new, as it was kinda interesting beta testing. The problem is that without the people around to team, your team selections will be slim or you'll be waiting awhile to get a team together. Especially for taskforces that require 8 people to start. Most people will give up, and go play Solo on a villian, or just turn off the game. So we haven't really lost the population, it's just shifted, and personally I don't see much shifting back.
3.) The lack of content. The storyline is told from contact to contact without much overall story. That's fine for people who enjoy it, but it doesn't give you a reason to keep playing that hero. Just a hero. When for the most part the only thing to do at level 50 is to start a new hero to build to level 50, collect badges, or nowadays help your supergroup out with presitage, it gets old pretty fast. I've been playing my level 50 on guardian server now for abotu six months. Longer than most would. I help out my Supergroup by earning presitage to build the base (even though I don't have City of Villians so I can't even see it). Most people are content with having Altatis, but after getting so many level 50's, some people will disappear. Will they come back when the level cap is raised, hopefully, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Since so many missions are almost exactly the same, it's hard to get excited about the tweleveth warehouse mission today. New content may be coming, but probably not for awhile, and doubtful before PvP content. So people will eventually tire of it all and quit.
4.) Lack of roleplaying. Now I know that most people look at roleplaying as player driven, which is partially true. However when you have every contact think you're exactly the same as someone else, in make up, wants, needs, desires, and storylines are more dedicated to a generic hero than your hero, it hurts. Add into the fact that the world is more like a set (2 dimensional, can barely sit in chairs, can't enter buildings besides missions, and static instanced npcs in the city) and it doesn't really inspire your character to want to roleplay. This is not like Final Fantasy where you can have a house, or other games where you have inventory to make you different. The only thing different about your hero is your powers, and most tend to have the same to survive.
So the end may be on the horizon but not because of any single nerf, development, change in rules, or even powerset. It'll be a cultivation of several serious problems, or issues that the developers just don't care that much about. Like missions being placed in the most dangerous parts of the zones. The population changing to City of Villians and the remaining heroes not being able to change servers is probably the biggest risk right now. If the other online games are any indication though, it'll be around until the developers give up hope. Since at least there's a new game, probably won't happen for at least a year. Even if they get rid of heroes.
Same here...I cant say any of my other MMO characters have been nerfed from UO, Horizons, WoW, EQ2.....only thing that comes close is SWG, and they can't really count as a nerf, that was more like a total game redesign....
And Grapevine, I think the flavor of the month idiots waste a lot of time building something that will indeed be nerfed, which is why i stay away from it....
And I don't really know what you mean by 'exploiting'.....Min/maxers are different from pure exploiters.....My class of min/maxers choose the combinations they want from the beginning without looking at the FotM statistics, and put together the most effective fighting style with our archetype.....I dont have the time or energy to be switching power sets every month like some folks do....But I for damn sure don't exploit jack....I take advantage of the powers the devs give me for my chosen class, thats it....much different from exploiting....people get kicked and banned for exploiting...no one gets booted for choosing their powers wisely.....might wanna be careful about how you throw that term around....
And yes, you're right, every MMO has changes, and most of the time I welcome them if it's going to help the game....But the Cryptic devs have turned a successful product into piss and use the excuse of balance when the game is still not balanced after more than a year of live servers......
Like I said, you can keep believing and backing up the bullshit they throw at you all you want.....I guess you're one of the people that truly believes that throwing up a new zone and shoveling some bland missions mixed in with the same ol repetative crap they used before is called 'content'.....Thats laughable.....
Tell me, what 'content' have they implemented specifically for their lvl 50's the whole first year CoH was live? And you can't use the arena, because that was for every lvl, and it was pure mindless killing crap.....theres no loyalty there whatsoever!
No matter how you look at it, Cryptic doesn't even deserve your money bro - and you're defending them !!!!
By exploiting I don't mean using a skill or whatever is broken and therefore open to abuse. I'm refering to using skills that are unbalanced, which although not intentional are the type of powers that min/maxers pick up. Simply because they are looking to be the best they can be. The main difference between a min/maxer and a FotM'er is simply the former will pick a class they want to play and make the best of it, while a FotM'er will pick a class because it is the best and easiest option.
BTW EQ2 had a combat revamp that nerfed pretty much everything. WoW, check out the forums. Every profession has had people complaining about nerfs from time to time. Right now its Warriors and Warlocks. UO has had so many changes and nerfs I'm surprised you can even claim that. SWG has nerfed every player in the NGE and has done several times in the past. What would you class i5 and ED if not a game resign, since you are willing to ingore the mess SoE has made serveral times over?
Think you guys are simply missing one fact. If you are enjoying the game and you havn't min/maxed or created a FotM character then chances are when a nerf hits you will adapt and think nothing of it.
I do aggree with you that Cryptic has slipped up on level 50 content. In fact I would even say they did with the zone in i5, simply because it addressed the wrong level range. It should have been 35-45, which there is still somewhat of a gap in. Cyrptic certainly aren't perfect (or near), my point is simply that neither is anyone else.
As for you not enjoying the game enough to continue paying, that is valid. Only you can decide what you enjoy. However, just because you don't enjoy it doesn't mean others can't and do.
*EDIT*
Just want to add that Dealaka actually made some valid points, regarding heros. Although personally find a decreased downtime after ED, since they reduced endurance costs across the board to compensate for only having 3 slotted stamina. Obvously this view would probably change if I was playing an AT that ran a lot of toggles.
I found this to be pretty good, I think you can delete broadcast channel entirely or even move it to it's own chat window where you can still see it if you want to, but it doesn't overspam any of the other channels.
You might try fiddling around with the chat screen and using the edit tab.
I found the communication tools and teambuilding tools in this game to be first class. The only trick they have missed is to make the chat Msn compatable as Matrix Online did with Aol messenger.

Yeah, you can just create new chat windows or simply define what is visible in which window by simply editing the relevant tab.

HAHA.. Broadcast is the first thing I delete on all the tabs when I roll a toon. Annoying children on that too much.

I take issue when anyone posts utter bullshit, no matter the game. Hence why I post against you a fair bit. People are coming here to find out factual information about the game, not your spin.
Reported for tolling again, as you'll just turn this into a personal thing as usual.

Claiming no nerfs?
Will it help if I type it for you a third time?
Amongst numerous other characters from numerous other games, my Wow character has not been nerfed.
Can you say the same about your COH characters?
I can't about mine.

Not only has it not affected me directly, but it hasn't affected most of the other players directly either.
The same is not true of CoH.
Perhaps if you spent more time actually reading the CoH forums instead of the Wow ones you might have a better idea yourself.

It seems to me you take particular issue with anyone who says anythong other than COH is the most wonder game in every aspect ever.
Change the record. Please develop your perspective instead of just insulting everyone when things don't go your way.
your bias is 100%. you are the only person that doesn't register that this alone undermines your every opinion.
