I think they should allow people to play as a vampire but not right at the beginning. It should be an advanced career exit for evil classes like necromancer or Assassin etc. Once your a necro you should be able to exit into a career as a Liche or a Vampire or continue gaining power as a regular necro. If your a vamp then you would have to take the strengths as well as the weaknesses of the vamp however because otherwise it would be stupid. Same with the liche you would have to take the weaknesses of being undead. If its just another lame class you start out as and you have rearranged attributes but dont have to really role play as a vamp then it would be really really gay. IMO.

Yea, I agree, Starting as a Necromancer, then advancing as a Vampire or Lich would be interresting. Considering though now the division of Undead into Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings, if they did that in game it could be just as easily done as starting as a Necromancer for VC, but as a Lich for Tomb Kings, then just as the Necromancer develops into a Vampire so does a Lich develop into a Mummy Lord or Tomb King.
The problem is that the undead don't really develop as such, mostly they are created in the form they stay for centuries. I can't see how a necro would get bandaged up to become a mummy, or just decide to become a liche. Usually the transition times are in hundreds of years, which would make it impractical for a real time game (necro clicks the button and his skin falls off?).
You also have the daylight problem. Limiting a player to only moving during night would ruin the character. You also don't get undead working as a group, generally theres one powerful individual who has a set of raised followers. While that could be funny as a single player game it doesn't lead itself to a group game very well.
I would love to see Undead in the game (I have a large undead army for the table top game), but due to the way they work I can't see it working well.

Well, for one, there's no indication that the undead "Cannot" walk around in the daytime, and it's implied by the tabletop game, that they can, they just simply don't due to the limiting of their power, they get more powerful at night because they use dark magic.
Second, Nagash himself turned himself into a lich form (although he also turned into a monsterous creature), from being a necromancer, by drinking blood and eating warpstone. So it's not impractical to "click and have his skin fall off" as you would lead us to believe. Warpstone is the key. It's so improbable to predict however that their should be some "side effects" like there is in the storyline.

I agreee there would be problems with daylight and being weaker during this time, though its only fair that super powreful classes have equally bad weaknesses as a balance. I think a necro would have to become a vamp or a liche as the last stage of their development because theres no changing your mind after. In the RPG it mentioned how all necros eventually turn into Liches because of the nature of the magic they cast. True it takes a long time in the game but its a small storyline sacrafice to simply click and have the skin fall off. I also remember there were artifacts and rituals that gave necroes their immortality as undead. It would be a good quest for a necro player to find an artifact that turnedthem into a liche or NPC that turned them into a vamp. Though like i said this would only occur when the necro has advanced as far as he can go as a living necro.
As for the weakness in the day, I would like to see a spell that causes weather changes making the sun get covered so the vamps and Liches and necros dont have as much weakness during the daylight or something similar. I remember reading in the RPG manual that the more powerful the vamp the better they are at withstanding the sunlight so it could be a skill yu can choose to be resistant to the sunlight in addition to casting shadow or weather spells that protect them from the sun and light magic cast by other wizards. Maybe this would be one way to deal with the Role-Play problems. Maybe its too complex for this reason i would be very surprised (although pleasantly) if they had undead as a playable class.

I doubt they'll do that, the only races other than human in the Empire is Halflings, Ogres, and a few dwarves.
Well, bad news then, I don't think Lizardmen, or Skaven will be playable YET!! remember expansions may bring new races. The known playable races are those listed in the poll, Unless something has changed and I havn't gotten word of it. Which is possible.

This game is still in early development. We wont know for sure what races will be available at launch. It will be more widely known probably a month before it will be released. Tho if mythic wants this game to be very successful at the get go, then they would consider adding in playable beast races, like lizardmen or shaven.
Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

Mate, they (Mythic) said what races there will be.

Id go with chaos, seeing as how when i played WH40K and WH i was Chaos.
I would absolutely love to see a WH40K MMO too, i think the 40K verse is more entertaining and the character/heros are a little better IMO. but i love both.

1. Lizardmen
2. Undead
3. Chaos
I've played a bunch of MMORPG's (CoV, WoW, FFXI, SWG, EQ & UO) and I always think they need just a few more character options.
They need to get crazy and have every single possible footmen-class race available, i.e. skaven, tomb kings, undead, vampire counts.
But if I could be anything.....

1. Chaos (Tzeentch ftw!)
other than that, I would consider Empire, Bretonnian, Vampire Counts or Dark Elves.
I really hope this game turns out well, we need a dark fantasy mmo!
Human, because it will looks stupid, if empire is full of wood elves, skinks or other high fantasy/leet creatures, who doesn't belong to empire
or Halfling
