Goods news... SOE is actually discussing brining back the pre nge.

The impact SWG has had, has been intense and they are panicing yet again.

Bad news... they are paying little to no attention to these fan forums... they are taking their cue, only from the subscriber amounts. So unfortunately, if everyone wants pre nge back, they need to click the cancel subscription. it is a scary option I know, but most people know, that if you cancel , you character remain intact in case you resubscribe.

More bad news...
The game may be closed. Come next february or march, they may be closing SWG. The official word came through that SWG has new goals, and if it doesnt reach that goal, either thru NGE or PRE NGE roll back... Good bye SWG.

Some decent news... the devs really are working on alot of revamps to this game. And honestly , when they complete phase 6 of the NGE update (if the game lasts that long... the game will be completely different from what it is now.

As many know, it will be collision detected.

There will be missions for every level.

The professions are being givens choices, like trader has now. IE - jedi can do level 1-70, and then choose whether to go light or dark.

The combat engine is being improved.

And they are working on alot of ways to change the views for battle, including having your character non npc's become partially transparent will you are engaged in battle.

Player cities will be nerfed, even more than they are now. The limits as to how much land you can have based on city members, is going to decrease alot.

I personally hope you are VERY wrong. If it goes back to "bore" wars I will cancel my sub immediately. The game is totally fun now, it just needs some work (Ok a lot of work) but they are on the right track.

I don't know Sharky. I believe the CU was closer to actually finishing the game entirely than any other iteration, and they did it in 6 months.

The NGE is so badly messed-up, and so many people have left over it, that I can't forsee them pursuing it to its logical end, if such a vision actually exists.

I keep trying to tell them, if they would just SHARE THAT VISION, then maybe they could get support for their new idea. But they have either been unwilling, or unable to do so. I'm convinced there is no vision, as it stood with the original game.

I just don't know what the right thing to do is, given lack of information.

But Wepps.. I don't think they have a vision to share.

And if they did... would we care to listen?

Some companies (Blizzard for example) are historically very tight-lipped about expansions, the direction of the game, etc - but for those companies with a proven track record, its a forumla that works for them.  Players have faith that even though they are "in the dark" so to speak, the decisions made will be the right ones; they will be the ones that make for the best gaming experience.

The problem with SOE as so many have pointed out, is that with the myriad of changes and tweaks constantly being made, it's obvious they just don't know what works and what doesn't.  We hear this talk of focus groups, blah blah... but the bottom line is that if anything, its all just a search for revenue and not a quest to make a fun game.

    Exactly.

What could a couple people in a focus group tell them that we haven't said a couple thousand times? Now they want us to listen? Now they want us to believe them?

HAH!!!  So Elnator and Erillion, still think I look "stupid" when I delcared that SWG dies within one year back in August?  I have this nasty little habit of being right all the time...  I think even AA chastized me as being an idiot about making this prediction...  With all the bad publicity, the best 'stop gap' scenario is to shut the servers down to at least qualm the horrible press this game is getting, namely the bad name SW is getting as a whole in the online community...  Star Trek online is in the horizons, and SWG2 needs to happen quickly to cash in on the Sci-Fi MMO'ers cuz STO will take a majority of them...  As Ace Ventura once said:

"Man I'm tired of being right!!!!!"

Squidi is no longer around either, coincidentally he left right after I posted that he was a SOE plant...  Coincidence?  I think not...

This is the same guy that released all the NGE info changes a couple weeks early, and everybody flamed him.

Wow, talk about an inflated F**king ego!

The game IS NOT dead and I very seriously doubt they are going to close it down any time soon. I dont know exactly what you are claiming to be right about. IF the game closes down before August 2006, feel free to bask in the glory of your prediction. As it stands the game is not dead, the server I play on is packed ... (every day I might add) and people seem to be enjoying the game!

What a lot of people fail to realise is that they are moving away from the elitest (I have the best rifle, space ship etc) type of game and making it far more accessible. Do you think this will kill the game? It will kill it for the vets, no doubt about that.  I gotta tell you that I'm loving it and I am not alone.

I'm not here to defend it. If you don't like it, you don't like it. I'm not going to try and change your mind. After reading the negativity in here before I downloaded the trial I was expecting empty servers but everywhere I go there are players old and new.

In closing, hate away. I did the same thing when the first CU came out and I left the game. It really boils down to this : Come to terms with the fact that SWG is radically changing and deal with it OR move on. Nothing you say or do and no amount of wishing bad thoughts on SWG will kill it. It may not be around forever, but I can pretty much GUARANTEE you it will live through 2006.

Sorry to tell you, it's a recipe that works. Please see WoW! All SOE care about is money. Welcome to corporate America! They couldn't give a damn if they hurt your feelings. The NGE was implemented to attract a wider, more commercial audience (And more than likely to ready it for console release). Guess what, it will! It may take time. SOE definitely did not expect the level of cancellations and bad press they have received but people LOVE Star Wars.

The game will live on and it will garner a whole new base of players. Personally, I'm having a great time with it but I can acknowledge that its not for everyone. It's unfortunate that you can't please all of the people all of the time, unfortunate but true.

WoW?  What are you talking about? WoW has customization and professions that are not all balanced..on top of that, it has a loot system that allows for "elite" weapons and armor as well.  WoW doesn't get close to proving your point of making everyone equal.

    Meh. Your propably right.

I, however, will not play a game where no longer can anyone truly become great.

Might as well have Reader Rabbit Online. It has more individuality than this game does now. (And the new player base would propably be more entertained and find the content challenging image )

Nothing to do with whether anyone likes it or not. Server loads are way down, take a look next time you connect. Peak hours the for over a week now Ahazi and Bria have been medium and all the others have been light or very light load. None heavy, none very heavy, none 'packed'.

Yah, you just keep telling yourself that. There are plenty of people on the server I play on and I would go as far as to say thay Bestine and Mos Eisley were "packed" tonight. Sorry to burst your bubble. I'm not here to advocate for the game but I know what I see!

Squidi is still around, and I never called you an idiot, I don't wanna get any posts deleted. I did say you would be wrong, and don't count your chickens quite yet.

Also saying Squidi is an SOE plant is just paranoid delusion. Give him at least the respect he deserves that his opinions are his own.

Either way I love the NGE as it is now save the obvious bugs and difficulty with melee. More quests, bug fixes and I will be satisfied. I love it I love it I love it I love it. I can say it as many times as I want. And you can say you hate it as many times as you want. Welcome to the free world.

All of these rumors sounds very believeable, as all rumors have since the dawn of gossip, but I'll believe it when I see it happen. Why waste any time on it till then. Life is so precious and short. Incidentally I just met an amazing girl and I'm soo freakin' happy, I'll even say this: all you who hate the NGE I feel for ya and I care about ya, I hope they fix the game to how you want it, I'll still play anyway but not so much now because I have a new girlfriend.imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Star Wars has progressively gotten worse since around publish 9 in fall of 2003... the original creature handler nerf and the introduction of bikes buffs and jedi to the game. That is not to say that it wasnt pretty cool for the next year and a half. I have cancelled my subscription so i cant cite one of the swg forum posts i made that year but it was a pretty detailed list of the offical publishes as well as the unnanounced changes made to the game thus far.  Then in the winter of 2004 they redid the player owned base system and the factional results of the galactic civil war in what seemed like an attempt change the games pvp into realmversusrealm. Temporary Enemy Flag (tef) was eliminated, fundementaly changed how pvp worked and most of the members of my guild agreed that the end was coming. Then the combat upgrade hit and the action que was eliminated in favor of a more eq2 or guildwars toolbar. I cancelled my second and third accounts but kept my jedi active... just in case.

A month or so ago I gave swg a second chance and ran around for about two weeks, grinding out my final jedi boxes and pvping a little. The community I was used to playing on what were at one time the first and second largest servers in the game Bria and Intrepid was gone. The cantinas in the central cities in the game coronet theed bestine and mos eisley which used to have so many different players you'd lag out just walking in the door were now empty rooms. Jump to Lightspeed equally so. The players I did encounter were of the 'whatever... i play it cause its star wars' variety and the game felt very stale and unengaging.

I've heard the rumors about servers being merged and the game being shelved. To tell the truth I could really care less. Even if they were to rollback the game to the 'classic' mode there can be no going back. The game has gotten old regardless. I will look forward to Pirates of the Burning Sea and RF Online and Conan and play swbattlefront 2 and guild wars in the mean time.

My statement on server population is a fact and not an opinion.  Clearly you have forgotten what a packed server used to look like.  There hasn't been a "packed" server since sometime in early 2004.
