Originally posted by Obraik Recently CSRs have been given the abilities to start up Live events on the servers in different locations in the game. On Chilastra we've had a droid invasion on Theed, NS invasion on Dath Science OP, Death Watch invasion on Smug OP on Endor, Rebel invasion on Coronet and today a Imperial invasion on Anchorhead. These are all thanks to CSR-KeithR (who is a top guy ). I've only managed to get to the NS invasion one and todays as the others were at times when I wasn't on There is no prior knowledge of these events, you just get a RP system message that an event is taking place at XX city as the event is created. Todays AH event was done at 12am EST on weekday and the place was completely packed. There was at least 100 people there, which resulted in framerate lag that I haven't had since the early days in Coronet. As they say, pictures speak more then words, so here's a set of pics AND a short video (well, more a slideshow ) for your viewing pleasure
Hey thanks for the screenies, brings back memories.
Looks like a good number of people, but like others have said, do not forget about how packed the major cities were back in the hayday of the game, on any server. There was no need for a in-game event.
what you see on those screenshots are "end game" players who finished leveling to cl 90, who were spread on mustafar before they finished cl 90.
they are bored now, look for others to interact with and will soon cancel their subscription because they got nothing left to do.

Geez, when you make a sweeping generalisation you go all out
There was an event?... all 20 people showed up.... maybe even 30?
I remember when I had over 30 people waiting in my buff line and I was one of 6 docs buffing inside the Coronet Starports alone.
I charged 15 k per buff or 115k to skip to the front of the line. I had one person tip me 160k just to be the next person in my buff line.
No...... Im not impressed with your pics.... If anything they only show how bad it really is.
The last pre-cu event we had was the attack on the Emporer's Retreat and each side had over 100 people ranked and ready. We had so many people in one place we crashed the server.
I miss that game. I would love to have it all back, bugs, unbalance, DOTs, and all.

I think you missed the statement where I said there was at least 100 people at the event...after midnight...on a Wednesday...which is not prime time.
No sorry...a frapped slideshow of the remaining playerbase does NOT equate servers not being dead or the game for that matter, Nor does it tell anyone that anything has or will change for the better, but I'll give you credit for hope because thats all you have.
I've watched you credit that game for months on end. Keep playing, hope you enjoy whats left of it, but for me, when a fire burns down the house I dont sift through ashes for saves, I call the insurance agency and get a new home.
Personally I don't think of a thread as necro'd unless it's more than a month old. It's entirely possible for someone to go on haitus from the boards for a couple weeks. More than a month is pushing it though.

I never said I didn't do it But when I DO necro threads I'm honest about it And there's never been a doubt that it was absolutely a necro'd thread LOL

ust because it's Star Wars does not mean it has to be big. Not all Star Wars fans are gamers. WoW is based on Warcraft, 100% of it's target market are gamers.
1) More subscriptions - more money. 2) More money - more support. 3) More support - better brand acceptance 4) Better brand - positive feedback 5) Positive feedback - more subscriptions
WoW, EvE and GW succeeded because of positive feedback that was established. Even whiners who leave, leave because they've done enough, and are no longer apealed. They are more likely to provide positive feedback. This is why declining, resentful or unfriendly population makes a dead MMO.
SOE of course, was in a hurry. They read 1) and said - cool. Jedi/Village/CU/NGE/GCW will bring more subscriptions, so we'll make more money.
Nope, doesn't work like that.
WoW succeeded, because they reached a critical mass of supporters. Now you "need" to play WoW, or you're not in. Of course, the bubble will burst some time, and then WoW will decline just as fast as it succeeded. But right now, WoW is the way to go. And even when people whine about grind, bugs, hacks, community, ...., they say that it's still a "good" game. And that's all that matters.
Organizations that run MMOs are closer to governments than they are to businesses. So politics matter a lot. Running an oppresive dictature will not win you much support when borders open.
PS: "support" does not refer to customer support, but to bug fixes, quality enhancements, content addition, marketing, public image, ...

I think you've addressesd some of the effects that cause it to perpetuate, but not the original cause. The cause of the initial success of WoW is its polish. Few bugs, and it works. That's what initially caused it to take off. After that, what you described caused it to snowball.
SWG COULD HAVE been the pin that popped that bubble if they would have released the original combat revamp and not the CU crap. If they would have added more FREE content and fixed the bugs, SWG could have been what drew people away from WoW when they got bored with it.
Now, there's very little for the masses after they get bored with WoW. The complexity of SWG could have filled that void.
