This game is a waste of time

KialeyKialey Member Posts: 42

Based on the reviews at this site, I got this "game".  Well, I'll *never* trust reviews on this site again.  The game is just not fun.  It's pretty, it's deep, and it's time-consuming.  That last one is the problem.  I spent 99% of my "game time" waiting to get somewhere.  For anyone wanting to know what the game is like, it's VERY comparable to waiting for the boat in EQ or the airship in WoW.  I would set my ship on autopilot, turn up the volume so I'd know when I arrived, and go do something else like watch TV.  I didn't like the combat either - all of it occurring so far away that I couldn't see what was going on.  Oh, and I hated the skill system.... although it did have it's pluses:  I felt like I was most productive in the game when I was offline.

So flame away.  This was my 100% honest opinion of the game based on two months of play.  Why did I stick around for two months if I didn't like it?   Because:  1) everyone assured me it gets "so totally awesome," but never did and 2) there were aspects that I liked, but I soon found to be repetitive.  I got to the point where I'd just mark on my calendar when my skill was set to finish so I could log back in, pick another one, then log out again and do something better with my time.

Well at least this one was smart enough not to show an Xfire with less than an hour playing time in EVE and claim he played for months. Sigh however both of his posts have been anti-eve flames so that is pretty much what he has come for how about this time we don't feed the obvious troll? You are entitled to your opnion but I think we have more than enough threads in this forum of this nature explaining how EVE is not suitable to the typical gamer thank you.

So because I don't like the game, I'm a troll?  Wow... that's pretty harsh.  And yes, I was disillusioned by my recent gaming experience and came here to post about it.  I'm not lying about playing for two months either - I feel like I gave this game an honest chance to grab me, even past the point where I wasn't having fun.  I just kept telling myslef:  "It's got to get better than this, right?"  Wrong.

And I agree with you 100% - EVE is not suitable to the typical gamer.  I'm not saying it's a horrible game for everyone, but it was a horrible game experience for me - hence me posting MY opinion.  Obviously people have different tastes... that doesn't make me a troll, just a human being.

I don't like CS or WoW, never owned an epic mount, and haven't bought gold on ebay, but nice try.  Am I writing like a d00d or something?  Did I throw in some Vin Deisel jokes?  What's with the attempt to stereotype me as something I'm not?  I guess it's a lot easier to knock down that strawman when you build him to be so pathetic.  I found EVE to be a time sink; a waste of my life.  I then posted my opinion about it.  I can see that you disagree with it, but that hardly invalidates my opinion.

"eve is for players who dont like to have to waste tons of time online just killing X mob to gain X item and X xp..."

No, EVE is for players who just like to waste time.

If you're traveling that much, you're at fault.  Every agent mission I have ever done (and I've been doing them for almost a year [been playing Eve longer... since 2004] and have done Gallente and Caldari agents) has, AT MOST, sent me three jumps away.  The only super travel time necessary in Eve is going from an Empire HQ to a 0.0 HQ... and even then... you should have bookmarks to help cut the trip time down drastically.

Oh, and repetative is hitting auto-attack and then 1... 2... 3... for your spells.  The odds are, you're only experience with PvP was... nil if not getting blown up by a gank-rat.  The PvP in Eve is always different, I know this because sometimes I win and sometimes I lose.  That's about enough for you though...

Go have fun grinding levels while being drug around on your "class/skill leash."  Tah.

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

If there wasn't already 20+ threads on this exact subject I would agree with you. How about instead of starting yet another one you just go and support the argument of your fellow unbelievers? We need another complaint thread like GM needs more foreign compeition. Thats my opnion just sick and tired of seeing a new complaint thread every other day because someone didn't like EVE you guys really ought to consolidate your efforts if flaming the game is that important to you. It might irrate the actual players a bit less and promote meaningful dialogue instead of crap here we go again another person that thought the game was too slow etc..

I don't see a consolidated thread for those posting about how great the game is either.  If they want to make a sticky for it, then great - I'll post there.

But I can appreciate what you're saying:  you enjoy the game and don't like to see others posting their negative opinions of it.  My perspective, however, is that I feel the reviews of this game on this site are far too slanted to the positive and led me to get a game that was clearly not for me.

Only 3 jumps??  I know for a fact that I had at least five on several occassions - sometimes more than that.  Those roundtrips made me want to eat a bullet.  And you're trying to tell me that's MY fault??  Please.  If I get a mission from someone and they send me across the god-damned galaxy, that's a fault with the "game," not with me.  Maybe it wasn't the most efficient method of playing, but I shouldn't be expected to buy game-guides and spend all my offline time learning how to be more efficient in this game.  I should just be able to play it and enjoy it.  I've looked at a few of the threads where people complain about the game and the responses all boil down to:  "it's YOUR fault."  Screw that.  If the game isn't easily accessible to people, it's the GAME'S fault, not the player's.

And no, I didn't pvp in this game.  I didn't want to trudge through a year of this game to get my skills high enough to compete with others.

Sorry, man, but I don't play WoW.  I know that comes as a shock to you, as you like to think of yourself as some enlightened gamer and feel that anyone who doesn't enjoy EVE must be beneath you.  Frankly, I found EVE's pretentiousness to be beneath me.  A waste of my time when I have better things to do.

It's too bad you didn't like EVE.  The game isn't for everyone.

If you found most of your time flying around in space between gates, then you should have either found different agents or made instajump bookmarks (which take no character skill to make), to dramatically cut down on travel time.

This is what I don't understand, Why were you running courier missions after 2 months of playing? I learned the difference between missions in the first week. The most effective way to run agent missions is to find an agent that you like and keep receiving missions from the same agent. I've been running missions from the same security agent since week 1 (only been playing for 3 weeks) and never had to make more than 2 jumps. 90% of the missions required 1 or less jumps. I know if I ran exclusively courier missions, I'd get bored quickly too.

If you say you didn't like the combat of the game then I would agree that this game is not for you. Eve Online isn't a FPS that relies on reflexes to win a fight. Personally I find many of the mission challenging for my Rifter enjoying, especially having to experiment with different setups for different rats.

IMO, the skill system is better than in any other MMO I've played to date mainly because it is so open-ended and can choose any path I desire. You don't have to reroll for mistakes, it only takes time to correct. But again, I'm not an instant gratification type of player.

Did you ever try the web browser feature of the game? In 3 weeks, I've managed to aquire 2 links to agent missions, one tells me all the different kinds of mission agents and the percentages of the kind of mission that class of mission agent will give.  The other link tells me not where all the mission agents are in Eve and what class of mission agent they are.

Did you ever ask for help? Never saw a post from you here asking for help while you were playing. Instead, you are completely silent about the game until after you quit and then only to flame. When I have questions I use every resource possible until I get a satisfactory response.

Eve Online isn't for everyone. Some people just aren't very creative and aren't suited for a sandbox type of game. They need to play an MMO someone holds their hand and the path is set for them all the way to end. It's not for everyone.

Good Luck in future endeavors.  :)

    That's because they are.

Here's to the Eve players!  We're smarter, we're more patient, we're willing to learn, and we're willing to earn!  We enjoy the freedom of choice and no set paths!  Here's to game with no end game!  Here's to every single pod pilot that says, "It's tough now, but I'll stick with it because only noobs want everything handed to them."  Here's to the players that are better than any other of MMOer out there.

Pretentious?... maybe a bit... oh well...

Your analogy to this game being like work is apt.  It *is* like work - ie, no fun.  I don't mind learning about a game to be better at it, but I shouldn't be practically REQUIRED to do so.  After playing the game for a couple of weeks, I went online and learned that I was gimping myself by not doing the learn skills earlier.  Fine, I rerolled and did that.  I took the advice of others to have a better, more productive experience, but the game failed to deliver.  I also frequently asked qusetions of others in game and looked for answers on the Internet.  Just because I did not ask the questions on this forum does not mean that I failed to ask them.

And thank you for at least admitting that the EVE player base is a bunch of pretentious know-it-alls.  Anyone who blames the player for a faulty game has obviously got a few screws loose.

As I've said, there were aspects of EVE that I found enjoyable, but the game just was not accessible to me.  I don't have time to waste for hours and hours a day learning about the game or waiting to arrive at my destinations.  I'm much more of a casual gamer than that.  It's why I love Guild Wars.... far better than EVE for those of us who don't want to take night classes in order to "play" this game.  As for your "sandbox" play, I think kitty litter box is more like it.  Bored me to tears.  But hey - that's just my opinion.

I'm sorry for sounding aloof (actually I'm not) but after playing other MMORPGs I get the distinct feeling EVE online prunes the chaff from the online gaming community. True many people are rude and ignorant, but atleast they can insult me using a sentence that consists of words with more than one syllable. Also I'm being intelligently abused (70% of the time) in an enviroment I enjoy with a skill system I enjoy.

If you didn't enjoy it then I suggest you swap your account for an account in another MMO, not everyone likes space sims and many want to have a human/bi-pedal avatar. Also no matter how manytimes you start threads telling us how much you dislike this game it doesn't make it any better or worse. Get into a game you like and praise it on the forum, why not try SWG?

so you needed to go to the internet to learn that learning skills are best at the start of your career? wow...

you dont want to learn. ok, then i guess you have never tried chess, or football, or any other game where you actually have to learn, and you get better at it with time

No, my posting does not affect EVE.  What it can do, however, is warn others of this mess.  If I was warned about this game prior to getting it, I wouldn't have gotten it.  Hopefully I can save others from similarly wasting their time.

And, for the record, I have played SWG.  It was moderatlely "okay" for a while, but then just turned into a mess.  I've actually played quite a few MMORPGs, so my experience with EVE is not coming from a "everything-must-be-like-WoW" mentality.  I guess I just didn't find this game to be casual friendly at all... and I didn't have the time to waste on it.  Unlike many of you, I don't have 8 hours a day to devote to EVE - I've got a full-time job, a spouse, and better things to do with my life.  I've been playing Guild Wars a lot recently and highly recommend that to anyone looking for a more casual-friendly game.  Unlike EVE, you don't have to be into hardcore sci-fi games with painful, "real-time" travel in order to enjoy it.

Oh, and I've only started one thread to post my impressions of EVE.  You make it sound like I'm spamming the boards with negativity.  I'm just giving others fair warning about this game.  They can choose to listen or not - it's up to them.

Try getting married, you'll soon find "Extra time" for EVE you never knew was there before! Divorce has taught me that EVE only costs me a very small amount of my income per week, and unlike a woman's mouth I can mute it!

Before you call me a sad loser, wait until you've been divorced mate. My wife thought I was a sad loser until I threw her gear out the house and ejected her from the door with the "boot to butt" technique. Ahhhh even more satisfying than wasting my first Apoc and podding the Amarr scum that attacked me, EVE rocks because a wife job and two kids suck (ask any divorcee).

BTW my apologies to any woman reading this that aren't flesh eating harpies from Satan's bumhole, it's just some woman (like men) spoil it for the rest.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

    Wow.  Just... wow.

Why would I call you a "sad loser"?  What did you say that could possibly merit that?

And I agree with you 100% - EVE is not suitable to the typical gamer.  I'm not saying it's a horrible game for everyone, but it was a horrible game experience for me - hence me posting MY opinion.  Obviously people have different tastes... that doesn't make me a troll, just a human being.

You summed up your intial post with view that you were expecting to be flamed. This concluds that if you were aware your post would produce flames then you're intention _was_ to troll.  It's how you worded it.

And as stated in the other thread you're trolling, players with effective communication are the ones who are able to excell in EVE.  Effective communication is a deffecincy with alot of the internet kiddies.  *not a flame.

Yes, at least he's not showing his Xfire info.  I think it's more intresting how those who troll the forums seem to use recently subscribed accounts to MMORPG.COM.  The odd thing is if they use the trial through mmorpg.com they have to have a subscription to start yet this guy says he's been playing for 2 months based upon the reviews here?

You can compete in PvP on your first day in EVE.  It's the view that you express that's so terribly ill conieved by too many people.  They think they know everything about something they know nothing about.

Here's a roll a new player can assume for PvP engagements:  The Tackler!

Purpose of a tackler is to "tackle" the opponet.  You rush in fast and lock them down with a predetermined option such as "webifier" which reduces speed by 80-95%, "scrambler" which scrrambles the warp drives on the opponet to prevent them from escaping, "EW" electronic warfare module commonly known as ECM which prevent the target from being able to lock onto anything!

These are good rolls that are ALWAYS needed and you can NEVER have enough tacklers!  Most corporations will fully outfit the tackler and make sure their access to "tackle", ships of the designated rolls, are readilly availble proceeding and during an engagement.

If you learn the tactics involved with tackling you will be EVERYONES best friend or worst nightmare.

Do you excell (sic) in EVE with your effective communication?  Or do you have a deffecincy (sic) like alot (sic) of the Internet kiddies?

I never said I used a trial from MMORPG.  I actually *bought* this stupid game AND paid for a subscription.  Hence my anger.  The only thing I said about MMORPG.com was that I got the game based on the game's score on the frontpage.  That score is obviously overinflated with EVE posters voting multiple times.  There is simply no way it would otherwise be so high.
