Yeah let's all group up and drive our boats, to kill the npc boats and gain xp to level to 60...where we can kill the boss boat which drops Leet Harpoon of Ownage.
Thats what auto assault is, wow in cars. Group up cars, kill the boss npc car, which drops stuff you can use to upgrade your car.
Sure, eve has its boring parts. But at least it is a ground-breaking game, there is nothing out there even close to eve. It's not a copy of everquest set in space.

Not sure where you learned to read, but I didn't say anything Auto Assault. This thread is about EVE. And why it sucks. More precisely, this thread is about why EVE is a waste of time.
But, once again, the EVE elitists come out - they can't help it. They ridicule a MMORPG based in cars when they play a MMORPG based in spaceships, as if there's some giant difference between the two other than setting.
EVE is, without a doubt, the most fulfilling game I have ever played, and one of the most enjoyable too. I don't know much about Auto Assault, so I'm not going to comment on that, but I will try to explain why I enjoy EVE while perhaps others don't.
EVE is very much what you make of it. There are many aspects of the game that a lot of people, myself included, find uninteresting. Some people derive real enjoyment out of these, and spend their whole time doing them. After a couple of hours of mining, a day's mission running and a week hauling trade goods, I decided that these things weren't for me, and went on to pastures new.
That's the beauty of EVE: if you don't like travelling, find a well-positioned system and stay there; if you choose it well, you'll never be more than 10 jumps from an Empire trade hub and the outskirts of 0.0. If you don't like mining, don't spend a month doing it - try missions instead. If you don't like missions, have a go at killing low-sec belt NPCs or doing complexes. If you find this boring, go to lower security systems and risk being attacked by other players, in return for better rewards. If all else fails, grab a cheap frigate and a couple of friends and indulge in the thrill of suicidal, affordable pvp. Who knows, you might actually kill something?
Do this, and pretty soon you'll find something that you enjoy; most people find several things, although it might take a bit of looking. The trouble is, unless you actively seek enjoyable things to do, you WILL get bored doing something that you don't enjoy in order to earn money for a new ship, or waiting for another skill to finish, so that you can do the thing that you don't enjoy, just a little bit faster. EVE is difficult; you have to have the maturity and patience to set yourself meaningful goals, whether it's impressing the CEO of a famous pvp corp enough for him to let you join, helping your corp manufacture ships for new players or exacting revenge on the guy who killed you mining when you were two days old and hadn't yet worked out that you hated mining (mine). If you manage to do this, then you will very soon see that EVE is anything but a waste of time.

If you take wow, and make it spaceships instead of people, you will not get Eve.
Yes I admit, I am an elitist.
This game weeds out those who don't have the mentality to be here. They find out very quickly that its not the game for them, and they move on.

I wouldn't have a problem with Auto-Assault if it didn't recycle the same tired old game mechanincs that have been around since EQ.

Have you even tried Auto Assault? I wonder exactly what game mechanics you are talking about being in EQ? Is it the having front, back and roof mounted directional cannons, or the getting massive air and landing on mutant skull? Is it the whole harvesting resources from trailer parks and run down apartment buildings? Is it the fact that enemies actually have A.I. and run to max distance and sit and take pot shots at you with grenade launchers? Or perhaps the whole having melee weapons attached to your bumper so you can more effectively drive over enemies to kill them? I await your reply.
We appreciate that you wish to voice your opinions and we do what we can not to limit your speech, however, this is a family site. Please refrain from dropping the F-Bomb if at all possible.
Based on the reviews at this site, I got this "game". Well, I'll *never* trust reviews on this site again. The game is just not fun. It's pretty, it's deep, and it's time-consuming. That last one is the problem. I spent 99% of my "game time" waiting to get somewhere. For anyone wanting to know what the game is like, it's VERY comparable to waiting for the boat in EQ or the airship in WoW. I would set my ship on autopilot, turn up the volume so I'd know when I arrived, and go do something else like watch TV. I didn't like the combat either - all of it occurring so far away that I couldn't see what was going on. Oh, and I hated the skill system.... although it did have it's pluses: I felt like I was most productive in the game when I was offline.
So flame away. This was my 100% honest opinion of the game based on two months of play. Why did I stick around for two months if I didn't like it? Because: 1) everyone assured me it gets "so totally awesome," but never did and 2) there were aspects that I liked, but I soon found to be repetitive. I got to the point where I'd just mark on my calendar when my skill was set to finish so I could log back in, pick another one, then log out again and do something better with my time.
I agree completely. I played EvE for 2 months and quit for the same reason. I tried EvE again about a year later. I quit after the second day back.
EvE's skill system is a joke. They should just sell skill levels for real money. There is no difference. They make skills take forever to train because they want your money flowing to them forever. They seemingly could care less about whether or not you actually enjoy the game.
I might play EvE if it were free but only because you level when you're not playing it... so I could just not play it and win the game. I'm not dumb enough to pay to not play it to win.
1: Selling skill levels would destroy the game, and I might quit as I would refuse to pay a subscription fee and pay for skills. If WoW charged money per level I wonder what it would do to the playerbase?
2: skills don't take that long if you like the game and specialise. Admittedly some take a while (like BS 5) but you don't really need them to be competetive.
3: There is no way to "win" in EVE, no end game no boss at the end of the passage. However since your total time played is 2 months and 2 days I perhaps you don't know this.
You've comitted the most common crime against EVE, that's reviewing it without really knowing the game or played it properly.

The problem I have with EvE is that the actual game isn't fun to play.
Sure, you get to fight over control of rocks with other players in a free for all, sandbox, PvP game. That's great for people who have wasted months of real life time paying CCP for their skills, joined corps and have already submerged themselves into the social aspect of the game. That's not so great for new players.
EvE isn't fun enough to actually play while I am waiting for my characters skills to advance.
I'm not going to pay CCP and not play the game while I wait on my character skills to go up while I'm not playing when I can not pay CCP to not let me advance in a game that I'm not playing and have just as much fun.
I know how hard that is for EvE fans to understand. I'm sorry that I don't like your game. It's nothing personal.

Yeah, it's wierd... I loathe WoW and EQ2, and you won't find my name in either of those forums. I love Eve though, and thus, here I am. People like what they like... I understand it's nothing personal and no offence is taken. I just like to set people straight when I THINK they're labouring under a misconception.
You mention here the time it takes to learn enough skills to get to a level where you'd be happy playing your char. For many it's a case of "Costs too much time to learn, and I'll always be behind. I don't have enough time and it'd eat up all my free time". The way EVE veterans see it though is "I don't have enough time to grind what with work and the kids and all my responsibilities. So EVE is perfect as I don't fall behind due to the small amount of time I do have to play. Also if I specialise I can be competetive with any other veteran". I started a over year ago at the absoloute bottom of the totem pole. Now I'm somewhere at the top, because vets quit for a while and no-one spends all 3 years learning. Also there it'd be impossibile to spend all sp on combat or just mining.
You didn't like EVE though, I think if you didn't like it after the first two months (and had tried everything) then you wouldn't like it after two years. Also mining is boring and I don't do it, never have never will. It sounds to me you see EVE as more of a job until you get that Battleship, and when you get the BS it'd probably still feel like a job just that you're flying a BS.
Sorry you didn't like EVE though, as new players are always made welcome in Minmatar space. Maybe you could give it a try after Kali and if you do try getting some advice through the Minmatar empire channel. The help channel has more spam than a pork factory!

No I totally understand what you're saying and I used to feel the same way.
Then I realized that perfectionism is counter-productive.
If level 1 of a skill takes 20 minutes, level 4 of a skill takes 1-5 days, level 5 takes 5-30 days for only %5 more gain.
Level 1 is definitely worth it, level 4 is "expert" skill that you should be aiming for.
Under this definition of "max skills", you finish your learning skills in 1 week (basic 4), get mwd in 1 more week, and "max out" all your combat skills to level 4 in 2-3 months.
Between week 1 and month 3, hopefully you will be in a pvp corp, out there every single day participating in battles as a tackler, while your clone is dirt cheap, learning as much as you can.
After all your combat skills are "done" at level 4, you basically have a finished character, and long-term skill advancement slows to a crawl, but you're not "waiting" for them to finish because your character is already done.
Maybe get per and int to adv 4, and take your training speed to the next level.
Start specializing in 1 type of gun. Large Autocannon specialization or whatever you like, it's gonna take for-freaking-ever, but who cares, your character is already done by month 3 remember?
Anyway, thats how I did it, never felt any "advancement pain."

Honestly Baby Jesus cries when he reads things like this.
The problem here is the mentality: I don't want to play until my character is advanced. The underlying "belief" is that "I cannot access the parts of the game that advanced characters do unless my own character is advanced". .... and that is dead wrong, in fact.
I see players out in 0.0 who are 2-3 months characters all the time. We have several in our own corp who are training up as well and have 2-3 months experience. Nevertheless, they *can* play in 0.0, they *can* contribute to combat, even with that level of experience, and they certainly both have fun and learn a lot by participating. It's gratifying watching them improve and learn. But you know what? They never would have had that opportunity if they had told themselves "Aw, heck, I can't do any of that until I have 10m Skill Points, so why even try ... this game sucks.".
Waiting for your Skill Points to advance and not playing the game is probably the worst possible way to approach EVE. While you are advancing in skills, you should be learning the game, learning how to *play* the game, which is dependent on player knowledge and skill more than it is on character Skill Points. You should be joining corps, learning about combat and loadouts and gang leadership and fleet tactics, learning about how to make money without having it take over your time in EVE, learning about the player-driven political landscape and so forth. There is SO MUCH TO LEARN in EVE that I can't imagine why people would not simply do that when they have lowbie characters.
So, yes, if you join EVE and want to play it by yourself or not at all until you have a higher skill point character, then it's going to suck and be boring. But if you do that, you're approaching the game 100% the wrong way.
I have to agree, this game is literally a waste of time. Just making the jumps to get around in the tutorial missions was enough for me to know that I did not want to continue with this game. I only gave it about 6 hours, but that is really all I could stand. Besides the fact that it actually takes like 20 minutes to get from point A to point B in this game... the combat is pretty boring once you do arrive. Weeeee, fly in circles and auto-attack. No thanks.
Ok... I know the fanbois are going to say my opinion doesn't count because I didn't play long enough.... but in my defense, if the game sucked less, I would have played it longer. If the initial ridiculously long jumps aren't an accurate representation of what I could have expected from the game, they should remove them from the beginner missions. This game is ill conceived and poorly executed. I'd honestly;y rather send SOE my 15 bucks a month and just never land my ship in SWG than play this flaming pile of poo.

If you would have played it for a long it would be: "Why did you play it so much if it was boring?" Goes for every game out there (single player and mmorpg), there is no period of time that is satisfying for a fan(boi).

Congrats to paada, he's the first person on these forums I've seen spell "ridiculous" correctly.
One point in general that I'd like to make is that I wouldn't want to play a game where after 6 months of playing someone can be just as established as I am with one week of playing. That would mean my 6 months have gone to waste. It would mean that there's no point to establish yourself, to better your toon or anything as there is no point in the end if it doesn't mean anything.
And guys seriously, enough with complaining about how EVE and other games just want your money. WTF DO YOU THINK CAPITALISM IS? It's get your money at all costs without being illegal.
If someone could take a dump and sell it they would, if someone could show naked people peeing all over each other and sell it, they would . . . oh wait, they already do that. In the end, everything everyone does is for money. Hell, if i could sell my pubic hair for $10 apiece I would. Man my hairy balls would net me tons of money.

I did not like EVE either, and the one main reason I did not like it was the horrendously long Zone travel times. Yes, I said Zone travel times. The 'One Server' hype on this game is a total sham. The chat system is across all Servers, and there is only one Log-In Server Point. But the game is fully Zoned as much as EQ is. The fact that any player in the game can meet up in a Zone with any other player only means the it is possible for HUGE lag situations to develop, and they do.
EVE is a great game for the folks that enjoy it. And, I wish them all the enjoyment in the world for them. Just was not the game for me.

Auto assault???
This whole hate thread is about AUTO ASSAULT???
What's next, a mmorpg based on boats?
Yeah let's all group up and drive our boats, to kill the npc boats and gain xp to level to 60...where we can kill the boss boat which drops Leet Harpoon of Ownage.
Thats what auto assault is, wow in cars. Group up cars, kill the boss npc car, which drops stuff you can use to upgrade your car.
Sure, eve has its boring parts. But at least it is a ground-breaking game, there is nothing out there even close to eve. It's not a copy of everquest set in space.
But, once again, the EVE elitists come out - they can't help it. They ridicule a MMORPG based in cars when they play a MMORPG based in spaceships, as if there's some giant difference between the two other than setting.
If you take wow, and make it spaceships instead of people, you will not get Eve.
Yes I admit, I am an elitist.
This game weeds out those who don't have the mentality to be here. They find out very quickly that its not the game for them, and they move on.
I wish you happiness in your next game.

I wouldn't have a problem with Auto-Assault if it didn't recycle the same tired old game mechanincs that have been around since EQ.
We appreciate that you wish to voice your opinions and we do what we can not to limit your speech, however, this is a family site. Please refrain from dropping the F-Bomb if at all possible.
Thank you, have a nice day.

He just seems to be wallowing in ignorance.
- He refuses to learn the game
- He doesn't want to ask for help
- Then he comes to the forums and complains about the game due to his lack of effort
He seems like a very brilliant person
Stick to what you know, and if you refuse to know more... stick to where you are. There's no point in sharing your ignorance. Everybody knows there are stupid people among us... we don't need to know who they are.

If the initial ridiculously long jumps aren't an accurate representation of what
I could have expected from the game, they should remove them from the beginner missions. This game is ill conceived and poorly executed. I'd honestly;y rather send SOE my 15 bucks a month and just never land my ship in SWG than play this flaming pile of poo.
-----Zero Punctuation Eve Online Review-----
Goes for every game out there (single player and mmorpg), there is no period of time that is satisfying for a fan(boi).
You know what...
You're an Eve haiting fanboi!! You're a fanboi to bois that hate Eve. Good God... I can't believe this crap hasn't been dropped. What a stupid thing to say. We enjoy the game. You don't. STFUNEXTCASE!! A fanboy is just a stupid word that people get called because they like something. YOU, yourself, person sitting at your computer hating me for liking Eve, are a fanboy of something. Whether it be AMD processors or WoW's uber elf ears or Chevy trucks or the left wall in your padded cell. You like something.
Cocky is the exact same thing as confident. It's all just about how you feel towards the person(s).

Sobaman, you really should learn how to write and make sense at the same time. Try and let us know if you ever figure it out.

Sobaman, I think your sig speaks on how stupid you are, might
as well just take some glue place it on your forehead than add a paper
that says Ultimate Dork and smack your head on the wall a couple of
times
Read this nerd's sig, what a total moron. It's clear now that a PvP
only game will mostly attract angry nerds like Sobaman who never get
laid and have nothing to do in their lives besides protect the only
thing they will ever be good in, no matter how shit it is. In this case
being Eve. It's also clear that after reading these fanboys answers
this game is filled with losers running around ganking people and
screaming in their own houses or trailor parks " I PAWNED HIM MAN I
PAWNED HIM"
This is one of the better flame wars I've seen, by better flame wars, I
mean posts like this above which are so beyond unintelligent they
highly amuse me. Flame wars get boring when people actually start
answering the other points in some organized fashion. But the best
flame wars include posts like this one. So bloody entertaining, I've
always found public displays of stupidity quite amusing, who else is
with me? Also, I think static wolf is doing this on purpose for his own perverse enjoyment. It's actually quite entertaining to act as an idiot, I'm not sure how amusing it when people who really are idiots realize they're idiots though.
Congrats to paada, he's the first person on these forums I've seen spell "ridiculous" correctly.
One point in general that I'd like to make is that I wouldn't want to
play a game where after 6 months of playing someone can be just as
established as I am with one week of playing. That would mean my 6
months have gone to waste. It would mean that there's no point to
establish yourself, to better your toon or anything as there is no
point in the end if it doesn't mean anything.
And guys seriously, enough with complaining about how EVE and other
games just want your money. WTF DO YOU THINK CAPITALISM IS? It's get
your money at all costs without being illegal.
If someone could take a dump and sell it they would, if someone could
show naked people peeing all over each other and sell it, they would .
. . oh wait, they already do that. In the end, everything everyone does
is for money. Hell, if i could sell my pubic hair for $10 apiece I
would. Man my hairy balls would net me tons of money.
If this site thinks it would make a profit by making us pay for a membership they would
