Anyone that preorders a game a year or more in advance is crazy. You have no idea if the game will be vaporware or not. If you do preorder that preorder, then you probably have good reason to and if SOE being on the label (even in this small capacity) is enough of a reason to cancel.. well that's just not good. Some of you people are like 'Well I played SOE games for 6 years, they are evil!' Well, obviously not *that* evil if you gave them 6 years of your life and subscription money!
I played EQ1 for years, I know what they did to it, and I don't like it. I played SWG, post-CU/NGE and the game was still kinda fun. I do see why the older players would be upset at the change, but as a new player, the game isn't that bad. They did do a decent job of trying to save MxO. EQ2 was a disaster, and I think the scramble to compete with WoW cost them big time.
These don't apply to Vanguard YET, because all they will be doing is slapping boxes together and shipping them out the door and making sure people know the game exists. Marketing and distribution. Hosting/tech support will be something we have to wait and see. Sigil could have their own team of CSRs ready to go in place.. SOE may not be able to outsource tech help to India. Just wait and see. That's all I am doing. Waiting to see what comes of this.
Just to let you know your doing yourselves a favor. If M$ was funding this game for over 3 years there's no way in hell they drop it unless they don't have any confidence in the product. $OE purchased it, simply for the all-access plan. They bought the Matrix Online for god's sakes they'll put anything on their product list.

I guess I choose to get annoyed *IF* they sell out to SoE in a few years instead of just rampantly speculating about it.
Sigil are still making the game, SoE is just getting it on shelves. woopie
"Under the terms of the agreement, SOE will provide distribution, marketing, hosting and back-end support -- including billing and technical support -- for the game. Additionally, SOE is tentatively planning on adding Vanguard, upon its release, to SOE’s Station Access™ subscription plan. Station Access allows players to enjoy all of SOE’s MMO titles for one low monthly price. "
There is more than just distribution here at least from the press release I'm reading.
Sorry Riker.. didn't see your post. I'm all about not getting this now.
The taint of $OE is all over this game now.

Cancel your preorder,,, then when the game comes out and you realize how good it is and that SOE is not having a hand in the game decisions then you might change your mind.
You guys are like a bunch of little 5 year olds. "WAHHH WAHHH SOE WAHH!" Stfu. Noone cares if you cancled your pre-order, nooone gives a shit if you don't like where the game is going. You don't like it? Don't buy it. Big fucking deal, as if Microsoft is such a great fuckin company. SOE is not incharge of the game, and they do not control anything other than the financial matters. Get the fuck over it and a grow a pair of nuts you two-faced fucking faggots.

I dont care what I read about you because I know all too well of the broken promises SOE has puked on me before. Calling Gamestop tomorrow and cancelling my $99 collector's edition preorder
SOE is just publishing the game, Sigil will still have full control of the game. If you really care that much about the companies that are behind the things you buy, you need to move to Utah and live of wildberries and stuff. Every company does awful things, and the bigger the company the worse the things they do. General Foods, Shell, Exxon, General Mills: all huge companies that make all the things you eat and use and they all do horrible things to the environment and to individuals.
If you're gonna get on your high horse over SOE, then you're a hypocrite if you participate in the free market period.
Originally posted by MX13 Same here, 2 CE's canceled. I'm stunned.... it feels like the NGE all over again...
Oh my, you must really be kidding me. This feels like the NGE all over again? It's nothing close! The game isn't changing, SOE is just going to publish the game. You will be missed MX but I think you're making a wrong choice. Too bad you won't be playing the best game ever.

The concept that you have to pay for the right to complain in a "free market" is simply wrong.
In the "free market", a person exercises their political power through the use of their monies. They support or do not support what they feel are right and ethical behaviors by the employment of those monies. Doing this to even one company/corporation/business is an exercise of that "free market" right. It is not a hypocritical act.
The hypocrite is the one who just sits on his ass, paying anybody what they demand, and then does nothing but complain about the "injustice" of the system.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- As ye SOE, so shall ye weep.
Omg everyone is being so immature, get your act together. Yes, SOE will be apart of Vanguard but Sigil will make alll the big development ideas. Vanguard will stay to its vision and will be an AWESOME GAME!
I just read "$OE is also in charge of the backend". That what they call it when they break it off up your backside?
Even funnier.. $OE is in charge of making sure "Beta is run like it is supposed to be". Well, since $OE's idea of running beta is "Lets give them 2 weeks to test it, never fix it and blame the players for never reporting it" than this game is gonna suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
But hey.. I just saved 50 bucks... and whatever monthly fee. Anyone wanna bet there's a "combat upgrade" by this time next year?

You are missing the point. I dont care if its the greatest MMO in history. I wont pay money to benefit a sleazy company like SOE who lack any morals and ethics.
Maybe your unaware of the tactics Sony used like the cd root kit. And maybe you missed the follow-up lies where they reported to fix it (they actually only hid it).
Perhaps you missed the bait and switch tactic they employed when they got thousand to buy SWG's recent expansion only to announce 2 days later the game was getting revamped ?
And these are just recent tactics used by SOE and its parent company.
Sometimes its more important to stand up for whats right. Dont let SOE take your money too my friends.

No, I do my homework when purchasing a product. I dont even own many movies because Sony is involved. My son still begs me to buy Spiderman but its not gonna happen.
It would be like asking my grandparents to apply and use a Citibank credit card despite the fact that they (citibank) benefited from jewish slave labor during WW2.
I agree though, its an almost impossible effort to avoid a company. So many of them have parent companies with other companies owning a majority share. Then with multiple people serving as board members on various firms, its hard to know who controls what.
Read a book called Rule by Secrecy by Jim Marrs. It traces corporate ownings back for 500 years. Interesting read on who really runs the world
It almost feels like SOE is following the old SWG vets around trying to continually screw them. Yes, yes i know, I need to look out for the black helicopters following me around. The bastards just cant help but fuck everything up that they come in contact with.

I played EQ. I quit because of how SOE handled the game.
I didn't play SWG because of SOE in EQ. (I was right.)
I didn't play EQ2 because of SOE in EQ. (I was right, again.)
I won't be playing Vangaurd because of SOE in EQ. (I hate being so right.)
