Its a great game and def my favorite but it seems kind of odd how no other game can be #1 for more than a few hours before EVE is number 1 again.

Perhaps, despite higher populations, the votes are based on a fraction of the respective playerbases. The vocal 'can-be-bothered' crowd. Assuming only subscribers have voted (though likely ex-subscribers have an opinion too)
EVE's rating is based on 4000 votes and has 120k subscribers (1 in 30 if all votes were by players bigging it up)
A huge MMo like WoW has a rating is based on some 6000 votes (1 in 1000 of its subscribers)
Neither is exactly representative of general opinion or its playerbase, just a of a small proportion of it. Just because more people do one thing than another (eg. drive Fords vs drive Ferraris) doesn't make it automatically better.

It's all about the strength of the community sense rather then actual game quality. The EvE Online community runs a post on their internal gameboards monitoring the position of EvE and go out to vote enmasse if someone dares to take them off the number 1 spot.
But then again it all makes sense, since it's prolly the most fun thing to do whilst playing EvE Online... Keeping it at #1 on mmorpg.com, the game actually accomodates for it with 45 minutes of waiting for every hour 'playing' the game.
b) If people feel THAT strongly about EvE, then why shouldn't their votes count? EvE is top because its playerbase (sadly I know) have an emotional investment in EvE and CCP. We love the game. The vote reflects that. As it should.

Well looks like our week of peace and quite is over with <sigh>. I really wish these people would go play their game and leave ours alone. Guess that is too much to ask. Personally I wish they would do away with the entire ratings system so you people would stop showing up to whine about a few pixels on a web page. Do you not have anything else to do with your lives? Sad really.
As much as we try Lallante they never seem to get why we enjoy controlling our own destiny so much and actually getting to shape the game universe. Its like we are beating our heads against a brick wall and they just keep coming. Perhaps we just need to sticky a standard response to the same old gripe and ignore them?

This entire thread belongs in.... the other one that's only a few threads down... even after the bump my post will cause.
What's funny though... is that if ONLY Eve fans were voting... Eve would be rated much higher than 8.3. People that hate Eve are voting too. Can we please realize that this voting system doesn't matter? If you play a game and don't like it... oh well. Eve is on top because its player-base likes it... and gives it an honest review. MMORPG ditches reviews that are all 10's. That may explain why 1) Eve has so few votes for so many subscribers and 2) why WoW isn't on top. People just want to see their game be #1. Trust me when I say... it doesn't matter!

On the contrary your lack of originality demonstrates why you just can't get Eve. That is why I brought it up. I could care less what you think after all you are pissing and moaning about a few pixels on a web page that constitues personal opinion, and doing so in an untruthful manner. Certainly there are more important things you can be bothering yourself with or is your life that boring? If you need some help I can give you all sorts of issues you need to write your congressman about that way we can put this spare time of yours to constructive use.
Btw we are still waiting for the link to this supposed PR campaign conducted on the forums of EVE to come over here and vote.

Yes, that thread exists or at the very least was there at the time I played, ow and yes I did play this piece of junk, twice, first try 2 months; second try 6 months. So at the very least that entitles me to an opinion and that opinion is strong, EvE is a posh game that nowhere near deserves it's current rating. There is so much more quality out there MMO wise.
I love the theme, I hate they way they created it:
Negatives:
the repetiveness,
shear and utter boredom while getting from A to B,
it's extreme grind (sps, money, ore),
the poor graphics (!: yes I dont rate desktop-background and none customizable ships good graphics),
the lack of a visual representation of your character other then a static jpg
Lag, Stability or lack there off, daily downtime, worst uptime % of all mmorpgs.
The horror called agent missions
Waiting 6 hours to be able to find and fight a single opponent
The disturbing amount of patience amongst the community when things broke down again and again and again or simply lost your stuff.
A game that needs a build-in webbrowser in order to keep you occupied...
Mining
The universe trully feels like a huge empty vast space of nothing
Positives:
EvE Radio (not CCP owned or run)
Community
Customizability of your ships (change the role you play whenever and to whatever you want).
The enormous amount of content component wise
One 'game'world or shard for all players (includes zoning though).

Who pays attention to reviews or ratings on this website anyway?
I've played every game listed in the top 10. EVE is a good game and probably wins alot of points for being unique among cookie cutter orc killing games. I won't say its the most exciting and all these server upgrades and database upgrades haven't shown one bit of improvement on my end.
On a side note i downloaded dragon raja, legend of ares and silk road online over the weekend (while npc'ing in my eve system and make 500million isk
and the winner is silk road online. By far one of the best free games i've seen as of late. I'm only level 10 and the grind is crazy but for some reason i like it. It's combat has an arcade game quality. It is free though so theres going to be a fair number of asshats running about. LOL
EVE isn't overrated. The rest of the mmorpg selection is just drab.

Hey there 1 post troll. How's the weather down there? I posed the question as a rhetorical one in the interest of a different viewpoint.

The fact that you name graphics as a downside to eve, well if you don't update for oh, 3 years I think you'd have bad graphics later on, just maybe. Wait, thats comming in Kali too...
You go through the tedious travel time *looks at space* *looks at eve, and MMORPG thats a Space Sim at the same time* I reakon that points it out enough for the dumb ones.
The grind... umm everything in lifes a grind mate, everything in eve rolls around isk, isk is the grind, SP means nothing if you don't have the isk to get anything...
waiting 6 hours to find someone to fight, HELLO!! This has been ppointed out many times, if your going to go PvP you first learn how to PvP, go to a low system with OTHERS in it.. no point camping a random system... Go along a base to base low sec run for yourself and if there is another in local, go to the roid belts. Or if you have some sort of PvP know how, you will use a scanner to gain their location. Hell it may take a minute or two... but it is worth it.
Now with the DT complaint. This is to relieve the systems for a bit, you try running the entire 25k shard and not having to perform daily maintanence. Let alone the minor malfunction caused by tiny hardware problems. Hell the last few days have been hectic cause another hardware upgrade has occured and th new pieces have a 1-2 weeks cool off period for sure. I'm sorry CCP isn't big enough to have 40 guys fixing and looking afte their system 24/7 let alone the few thousand Blizzard has.
Oh and cuddos to you and you 2 then 6 month bouts, you now flame the game cause you stopped. Sorry yeah you have an opinion, but to myself and maybe a few others. turning around and stabbing a game YOU sub'd to doesn't seem right. Get over it, you decided to play it...

If you would have started with your game experiences you would not have elicted as strong a negative response as you did. Most of us respect valid opinions around here, and you finally came up with one. Why did it take you so long? Why did you start on the same route that all the other people that get their panties in a bunch over the rating take? Why did you go eight months and not bring any of this up? <I smell a rat here>
Because I am bored at work I ran the search and came up with the thread that Atomic here was too afraid to link to because it only supports his argument if you have a certain point of view.
Basically it was a lone player extoring people to come review Eve because of the mass amount of negative critism it is receiving from people on this site, and that the critism might prevent people from trying EVE that may in fact like it.

I found EVE myself by accident, just by looking through a PCGamer UK magazine (which we don't really get in Denmark, one of my friends just had a copy) two years ago, and I took it upon myself to try it out.
While it did seem a tad hard/boring in the beginning, I stuck with it for the whole of the first month, and after that you never want to leave again.
I love the community here, and while I'm sad that some people seem to base what they play upon ****ty reviews, I have a feeling that it's those same "features" which keep this community as great as it is."
Thus the community response was basically who cares what those people think its not worth our time. Hardly the coordinated campaign Atomic would have you believe exists lol nice try next lie.

I just did...worked fine for me...went through all 5 pages of results when searching for mmorpg.com, not a single thread in there that was asking people to go out and boost votes for EVE on the mmorpg page, a couple of congrats for winning the readers choice awards on here, a couple complaining about asinine threads like this one but none like you suggested. So, are you going to keep talking out your ass or what?

Well this isnt directed to me but i felt obliged to answer, first of all, the user rating doesnt mean the posts are bad, it just goes up the more you log in and goes down if u stay away for a while.
Now about the game, i didnt like the game either, i felt bored, disgusted, just because there is no sound propagation in space doesnt mean there shouldnt be some nice explosions and stuff
it's a game after all. Then i asked for help and ppl replied to me rudely and arrogantly, i didnt find a single helpful person, since i didnt find anybody to help me i did some missions, they were boring as hell but well i was still intrigued about a game so well spoken so i stayed on, i did more missions, started mining and selling stuff to buy a shiny new spacecraft, i was so happy, then i took my new spacecraft on another of those boring courier mission, and as i teleported i just got time to see my new shiny spacecraft explode in front of me, as a portal ganker was waiting just outside, and i didnt know about the security zones, when i asked what happened ppl would just laugh at me... so that was my experience of the game. I dont play games to get frustrated in my sparetime, so i left.
I played lot's of games, WoW, GW, SWG, CoH, but never had i seen such lack of maturity... and worst of all, most of the reviewer in here say it's a mature game, come on...
Even when i lost my lvl 91 hardcore Druid in DiabloII to some exploite using hydra sorc have i felt so disgrunted... have fun in ur little game guys, cause i wont
Intresting, I've only seen a single posting by another player and it was when the first polls were up on mmorpg.com. Other then that single post I've _never_ seen any mentioning of this site on EVE's primary forums.
I would like to believe that potential players are able to identify a healthy community by the members who assist and support a game not by trolls and flamers who's only existence of worth is to create chaos on a forum.
One thing that's being overlooked is the audience of the genre. EVE Online's average player base is something like 29 years old. That's the average age of an EVE Online subscriber! Now look at WoW (just as an example) and you'll see that average player age drop to near 17 years of age. Couple in the fact that everyone already knows EVE is a "complicated" game and has been acredited to "doing your taxes" we can deduce that there's a more "profecient" player base within EVE then some other MMO's.
Once the facts are extrapolated the results become clear.
EVE is on top because that's its rightfull place. It's not a matter of how has the largest e-peen. Players post their confusion about it, try it, ask for help then once they understand it they go back and say "Woah! I never imagined an MMO game that could be this dynamic and expansive."
Those playing EVE post here to make things easier for everyone esle who may like to get a shot at a great game although are overwhelmed by the immenisty. In all fairness, we, the players from EVE, do _not_ want hundreds of thousands of players to rush to EVE. We do not want WoW addicts to come clean and switch to EVE. We only want to make it easier to adapt to something that's so far ahead of it's time to allow for a broader gaming experiance.

People that played the trial and liked it are more then welcome to have an opinion even if they cant have a good opinion yet.
People that played the trial and dont like it get flamed for not giving it a good try.
Someone who played it for 8 months and thus has seen the game indepth is not allowed to dislike the game and have an opinion about it because he decided to give it a good and honest look to see what all the fuss was about???
And for the record I have asked and asked whilst I was playing trying to find that part of the game that seems to convert you into an instant fanboi. But then again I have not been able to find that alien anomoly.
