Now about the game, i didnt like the game either, i felt bored, disgusted, just because there is no sound propagation in space doesnt mean there shouldnt be some nice explosions and stuff it's a game after all. Then i asked for help and ppl replied to me rudely and arrogantly, i didnt find a single helpful person, since i didnt find anybody to help me i did some missions, they were boring as hell but well i was still intrigued about a game so well spoken so i stayed on, i did more missions, started mining and selling stuff to buy a shiny new spacecraft, i was so happy, then i took my new spacecraft on another of those boring courier mission, and as i teleported i just got time to see my new shiny spacecraft explode in front of me, as a portal ganker was waiting just outside, and i didnt know about the security zones, when i asked what happened ppl would just laugh at me... so that was my experience of the game. I dont play games to get frustrated in my sparetime, so i left. I played lot's of games, WoW, GW, SWG, CoH, but never had i seen such lack of maturity... and worst of all, most of the reviewer in here say it's a mature game, come on... Yeah... I'm trying to think of something else to say to you, but... I get sick of calling people on their shit when it doesn't accomplish anything. Though, I will say... your inaccuracies are less original than anybody else's. Dumb poopie head!
I dont need to say anything else since ur response just proved my point.

You, sir, should just use the search function in the internal boards... Ow wait that prolly crashes it heh... I just did...worked fine for me...went through all 5 pages of results when searching for mmorpg.com That must have been a delightfull moment, searching the forums without a crash... 5 pages filled with mmorpg.com related results... And you think that doesnt draw players over to boost the game they love giving it straight 10/10 just because they disagree with what is being said? This thread alone proves you dead wrong.

Those who see this post should know the quoted poster has NOT played EVE in well over 24 months (2 years!) and is referencing the game at the point of initial launch. Keep in mind CCP had set their ambitions EXTREMELY high and it has paid off! This was thier first MMO and it currently out-shines every single mmo that's currently on the market.
We should also know how fictitious the quoted posters views are. HE constantly contradicts himself, see referenced mentionings.
He has _NOT_ played EVE.
Do not be fooled by his unbridled ingorance to degrade others attempts to have a good online gaming experiance.
To clarifiy:
Yes, minning sucks.
There is no character to run and jump around with. It's a form of an empire builder and your character represents your growth and acquisistion while only being represented by a "portrait".
There is no grind. You do not kill x rats to level. Aquisistion of assets is the goal of EVE. Hardly a grind and you are not forced to aquiring anything to advance.
Graphics are still far superior to almost every mmo ever created.
Lag? None! 25k+ concurrent users on a single gaming server and no lag. 200-300 ships in the same system and you can't tell if lag is client side or server side due to it's transperancy.
Never had down time. Schedualed downtime sure but when someone says "In three weeks we're bringing down the server for 12 hours to do some massive upgrades to content and hardware." only ignorance lends to a complaint.
Content is availble within 2-5 minutes of logging in. Instant fights within 5-10 minutes, player or otherwise.

I thought I smelled a rat. With his supposed conspiracy over on the Eve forums to come vote here at MMORPG.com proven to be the lie it was he is now totally without ground to stand on.

Truth be known that even a 12 year old with a limited history of onine gaming should be able to identify a MUD (multi user dungeon) in less then 5 minutes of game play. Well, my 8 year old son can anyways and my 9 year old daughter can lecture you on the pro's and con's of them.

Still doesn't look like a concerted get out to vote campaign looks more like a discussion on the merits of Guild Wars. Good find though so we know Dr. Atomic isn't totally full of it just mostly. He would have saved himself a good deal of flak by providing a link to back up his accusations its a shame he couldn't be bothered. We might have had a meaningful discussion on the merits and shortcomings of EVE .

You'll find existing players (even in the noob corps) don't have much patience for people that don't have the patience to do the tutorial. From your post it's obvious you either skipped it or didn't pay attention. That is why people laughed at you because you should have already known. I've been in the RMS noob corp for a couple months now. A very helpful bunch except when someone comes in acting like an asshat they get blocked. How they get spotted:
1. Obviously not having done the tutorial because they're begging for money they'd already have if they finished it and the starter missions and/or questions that are answered in the tutorial. To be clear, such people will usually get told once to go finish the tutorial also questions about the tutorial by someone still doing it get answered as well.
2. 1337 speak (except as sarcasm)
3. Prefacing their question with a rant that OMGWTFBBQ0WNT!!11!! this game sucks rather than that their knowledge of the game sucks and politely asking for help.
I could continue with less commmon reasons but those make up the majority that get ignored. In short anything that will get an immature person ignored in real life as not being worth the time to help, works in game as well. That's not unique to Eve though, it applies to all the other online games I've played over the years too, whether MMO, FPS, RTS or TBS.
Oh, and there are plenty of sounds in the game, not sure what was wrong with your audio settings.

Are you worried about this? Do you want to share your feelings about this? Are you sure we care?
Hey there 1 post troll. How's the weather down there? I posed the question as a rhetorical one in the interest of a different viewpoint.
I am not worried about this^ I am however worried about you and your need to create an alt I assume just to defend what you perceive to be an insult.
If you don't care, why did you go to all the trouble to post? Go sit in the corner now.
Thank you for worrying about me; I'm fine. You're so kind. Still, it seems that you're not so smart, as your rhetorical question could be answered by any schoolboy able to calculate average values (you should know: (A_1 + A_2 + ... + A_n) / n). It seems that you lied us about your age in profile; you're either too young to know this simple formula or too old to remember it clearly (I'm not suspecting you were just trolling this forum, it's impossible!)
By the way, you may to stop worrying - I'm not an alt. You know, there are some people in the world NOT registered on mmorpg.com; sometimes, they come here, sometimes they don't. I'm the former case.
I was just unlucky enough to be a little bit annoyed and to run into this flame thread at the same time.
That thread was made by Valium Summer, who is a regular poster on here and has said that he/she has 4 accounts which he/she is not playing atm blah blah blah.
If you actually read the rest of the thread it's people complaining about the OP making a thread about the MMORPG ratings cause NOBODY CARES about the rating, until it totally goes off topic anyways.

In light of the other accusations and personal attacks: i'm 33 years old, IQ 117 and ingame character happens to be named... tadaaadaaaa: DrAtomic. But then again it's much easier to try and discredit someone who is making sense and you handle it.
You guys need to take another route obviously you like the game that you are defending with your keyboard, I havent told a single lie. None what so ever. You could have steered away from this conflict by merely stating what it is that makes EvE so great for you guys, instead most of you have chosen to go the route of personal attacks, flaming and making false accusations. If you're fishing for a fight and put shit on the hook you'll catch a fight.
I thought this post was running in Pub and I would have continued the fight (not saying i'm not going to respond to other lame posts filled with lies and personal attacks) if it was but I just found out it's actually running on the EvE forums. So since i'm kinda intruding in your territory i'll go soft (ok somewhat then).
Since you guys are in obvious need of help I'll tell you what makes EvE a great game to some people since you all seem to be struggling hardcore to be able to express it yourselves and I can do it in one sentence as well;
EvE is a spaceopera toolbox where you and your fellow players create the game because you are the content.
And that's exactly why: 1. The opinion of people who only played the trial means zip (that's either positive or negative feedback from those people) because they only played the tutorial and fooled around with the toolset a wee bit just enough to get a feel for the toolset and hardly any of the deeper true RPG elements that make this game. 2. People like me dislike the game because we are less hardcore RPG then that off what is required to enjoy EvE. We look for true game (computer) elements not a toolset that looks and feels like a taxform. 3. I'm being extremly negative about the graphics because (besides the lack off diversity) due to the hardcore RPG (allthough the term RWS/Real World Simulation would be more fitting) nature there should be a real character (other then a static jpg and a stats sheet), you should be able to paint and customize the visuals of your ships and stations, etc. 4. Should start explaining what it really is why you likes this game and what you get out of it rather then to defend some of the weak elements in the toolbox. 5. I quit the game, because then I understood this would not be for me. 6. I'm pissed at you so called intelectual community because you failed to be able to tell me what this game was about and I had to pay for 8 months plus activation in order to find it out. All you ever raved about was how much fun it was and then reffering to toolbox elements when in fact it wasnt those elements that were and are providing you your daily shot.

erm...anyone can access the forums...they don't lock out non-subscribers so anyone can go into the forums and read all they want, you just can't post.
The diversity in EVE is not through being able to customize your ships paintjob, its in the 300+ different ships you can fly or see. That diversity is FAR higher than in most MMO's. Look at WoW for instance, you see 1000's of people walking around in the same gear because it's the most uber gear in the game, everyone looks almost identical. DAoC is and EQ is not much better. Not only is there hundreds of different ships in EVE but there is probably millions of different possible fittings. You're bitching about the graphics cause you can't paint your ship pink with oragne polkadots? Nice priorities there.
You may not have posted lies, but you also haven't posted truth, you've posted opinion, yours to be exact and while it may apply to you it is NOT fact. Don't state it as so.
As for customizing ships, do you have any idea what kind of load even 10 custom painted ships would have on the graphics card, how about 20, 30, 50, 100+. it's not feasable. See Lagrimmar for an example of what it's like even when 90% of the toons are wearing the same armor.
EVE is a sandbox game, it has been stated from day 1 that this is what it was, it has been repeated many times. If you like to be led around by the nose to wait in line to ride static rides over and over, this game probably isn't for you. No-one forced you to stick around for 8 months, if you couldn't find your own enjoyment after the first couple of months you shouldn't have stayed.
Oh, and as for grinding in EVE, uh the only thing you really need to do is make isk, you have several choices of how to do it, it's up to you to find out which on you like but training SP is NOT a grind. A grind is standing in one spot killing the same mob over and over to get that next level, when you train sp you pick the skill you want to train and go do whatever you want while it trains. That is in no way a grind.
Every time Eve drops off the top, someone mentions it on the Eve forum and tells people to go review it on here. Eve players are very protective of sites and things that show eve in a positive light.
And so they should be. The game is the best thing on the planet by far.
Its like an underdog culture. Eve players know it kicks all the more heavily subscribed and popular games into touch. Think of it as word of mouth advertising.
----------------------------- 'Argueing with an Eve player is like argueing with a religous nut. '

The reason you got attacked like that is because you took the same path that many others have initiated to stir up a trouble and bad mouth EVE in these forums. For some reason people that like other games will actually show up and start pissing and moaning about EVE's rating. Many of us have gotten to the point that we just start picking apart posts to exploit weaknesses in their view on things. In order to send them packing as soon as possible. A little study of previous threads will show this theme repeating itself again and again.
1. Agree
2. The words you are looking for is sandbox style. There is a small element of the gaming population that loves to have the option to change the outcome and make a meaningful contribution to the game world. Then there are those that like to have their content provided to them without benefit of wanting to choose your own destiny. There is a very limited amount of sand box style games on the market today so the few that there are, are defending jealously by those that appreciate that style of play. Lovers of Sandbox style games are often hostile when people don't understand the amount of freedom that choosing your own destiny entails as opposed to being fed a cookie cutter pile of quests.
3. I often find myself missing being a character. As a result I do not play EVE exlusivley with my gaming time. I also play other more tradtional MMOs and single play games. Graphics as a whole never really concern me (when I started playing games there were no graphics it was all text you had to use your imagination) so I generally judge a game based on what I consider to be its content.
4-6 I have been at this game for 8 months myself I recently posted in another thread what I like about this game I am sorry it was not timley enough for you. Other people of course have different visions of what makes EVE exciting to them and I agree that they should post them more often to help people understand if EVE is right for them. I too trudged through the cloud of mistery, but found enjoyment on the other side.
For the benefit of others that may be reading I will go ahead and paste it in here as an example of what makes me excited to play EVE.
"As previously indicated I have mentioned that EVE is not for everyone and may not in fact be for you.
It is one of those games were a lot of patience pays off and becomes several minutes of heart pounding action that is unparralled in other games I have played to date. There are also a couple of other aspects to the end game that appeal to a certain kind of person mainly what in SWG would be known as crafters, and guild leader/mayors. The crafting system is pretty much the best we have right now (Roma Victor does look awfully promising though), and the in game politics among corporations and alliances as they go about their business is second to none and would bring great enjoyment to the political player.
I played for about 4 hours total last night let me tell you a little bit about my night to give you a window on why some of us like it so much.
I logged in and there was a gang going out on anti-pirate patrol in the areas my alliance patrols outside of our territory to keep the pirates to a minimum so I signed up and jumped into my Hawk outfitted to tackle.
After about an hour of patroling around our advanced scout finally called out an enemy a lone Raven sitting about 15k off a gate. Fearing an ambush our Fleet Commander ordered tacklers in but everyone else hold. So me and 3 others warped to the gate locked up the Raven (Caldari Battleship), and warp scrambled him. We took a tight high speed orbit around the target to try and avoid his guns and hang on to wait to see if he had any friends. After about 60 seconds the FC ordered in the rest of the gang a mixed bag of Battleships and Cruisers and we finished him off.
What did I feel during that 60 seconds of unknown time not knowing if an enemy force was fixing to pounce on me and kill me? I actually felt a combination of excitement and fear. Fear that my 20 million credit ship and 10 million in mods not to mention my 80 million in implants were in danger of all being lost (that is about 5-6 hours of NPC ratting in 0.0 with a good Battleship). Excitement in the fact that I was engauged with another person knowing that he was having the exact same feelings that I was, and in fact was risking a far more valueable ship.
We resumed our patrol capped a couple of know enemy alts in Rookie ships, and then received a request from one of our Alliance's corp leaders to secure the gate to empire so they could bring a pos or pos parts through in a hauler (not quite sure don't know that much about POSes). Anyways so we took up our position at the gate to hold it against any hostiles (many neutral pilots took this oppurtunity to move stuff through safely as we are known not to cap neutrals). We started BSing on team speak about our recent victory over the French alliance that vowed to kill us all( as an american where else do I get to take my frustrations out on the French? Soon our scout called out that a pirate destroyer was apporaching the gate from the other side (our scout was cloaked on monitoring traffinc from the other side of the gate). We made ready deployed our warp bubbles so he couldn't get away. He jumped in we scrambled him and killed him a nice spike of adrenaline from the victory, but not very long lived because we won so quickly.
The hauler with the POS came through we escorted him back to our space and resumed our patrol. Not wanting to write an entire book on the subject I am gonna stop right here. We still had about 2 more hours to our patrol.
Basically does this interest you? Unlike any other MMO other there you are taking real risks to PVP in EVE which breeds its own special kind of excitement. Its kind of like the excitement you felt when a BH showed up to kill your Jedi. You were facing real loss there which made it an emotional high to experience. If not I would say move along and not look back just recognize that some of us love our game and will defend it to the death. If it does play on.
Just imagine what it felt to just barley survive a couple of major battles during one of our wars. The excitement the fear at almost dieing and the jubilation at coming out on top are some of the most exciting moments I ever had in a game; however inbetween these moments of excitment are many hours of what might be termed grinding for cash buying stuff for your ships traveling etc.
If this sounds like something you might enjoy I would say dive in. If not I understand many of my friends did not either, and we can agree to disagree. "
To be honst I dont see why people are so touchy about the subject. Is that because WoW is not on top with its 5 million subscribers? Or is it because your game is not on top and some other game you dont understand is? Everyone is simply searching for some conspiracy theory against them, it is much easier to say that other side cheated rather then admin that you didnt do enough. These kind of threads pop up every week or so doing the same thing but nothing changes, EVE still stays on top. If you feel that EVE fans cheat that much why dont you go to your games boards and post in the nice big letters "GO VOTE ON MMORPG.COM CUZ OUR GAME HAS CRAPPY SCORE!!"? No, that is to complicated and requires you do actually do something, 99% of people just prefur to whine about it just like all little kids do.
Originally posted by brostyn I dunno. The combat in EVE is boring, and the lag is atricious.
Intresting, I haven't experianced lag in over 5 months.
When the concurent user was reaching upwards of 15k the lag was getting bad in key locations. When it broke 20k it was an issue. Thankfully CCP has a new server set up which is capable of internally testing nuclear warheads!!
If you are currently experiancing lag in EVE you should email their tech support so they can help issolate the problem. They are generally very deligent in responding to conectivity issues.
Originally posted by DrAtomic Lol, quit the outright lies Minsc, at least spacetwat (sorry forgot your real nick and this is kinda catchy ) is being honest about the lag. Apparently it has been fixed, which took them long enough, but in the end it's good that they seem to have finally fixed it. If with that the instability went away as well then they are at least on the right track after 3 years of countless problems. If only they can manage to keep it away if the game grows even further.
Only ever had lag while fighting dreadnaughts or in noob zones myself. That left about 95%+ the time in game lag free.
Eve has had far fewer problems than most games that I have played as far as stability. My issues with it revolve around the aloowed tactics which are really exploiting. CCP has taken the stance that many of these exploits are accepted because they were used so often, personally that settle well with me.

Yeah... I'm trying to think of something else to say to you, but... I get sick of calling people on their shit when it doesn't accomplish anything. Though, I will say... your inaccuracies are less original than anybody else's. Dumb poopie head!
I dont need to say anything else since ur response just proved my point.
I just did...worked fine for me...went through all 5 pages of results when searching for mmorpg.com
That must have been a delightfull moment, searching the forums without a crash...

More concrete proof that "DrAtomic" is only posting to cause distress amongst the forums. Here he states that he "don't get MUDs" then conlcudes with "that's probally what EVE Online is, a MUD".
Truth be known that even a 12 year old with a limited history of onine gaming should be able to identify a MUD (multi user dungeon) in less then 5 minutes of game play. Well, my 8 year old son can anyways and my 9 year old daughter can lecture you on the pro's and con's of them.

I'm not saying this to de-bunk anything...
But... notice how this thread and that one were both started yesterday... and the acusastions being made came around them same time as that thread was started. I'm no detective, but I wouldn't call that coincidence. I'd say somebody on the MMO forums has a sense of humor!.... We must find them and BAN them!!

Bad example, Tom Cruise is in it, we know it sucks.
With the exception of "The Last Samurai"... I would have to agree... of course... I haven't seen MI:3...

You know, there are
some people in the world NOT registered on mmorpg.com; sometimes, they
come here, sometimes they don't. I'm the former case.
I was just unlucky enough to be a little bit annoyed and to run into this flame thread at the same time.
If you actually read the rest of the thread it's people complaining about the OP making a thread about the MMORPG ratings cause NOBODY CARES about the rating, until it totally goes off topic anyways.
I would need an active account to access the internal forums (hence the name INTERNAL forums) and since i've obviously canceled I can no more. You guys are more then aware of that so stop asking for something you know I can't provide. The posts are there.
Since you guys are in obvious need of help I'll tell you what makes EvE a great game to some people since you all seem to be struggling hardcore to be able to express it yourselves and I can do it in one sentence as well;
EvE is a spaceopera toolbox where you and your fellow players create the game because you are the content.
And that's exactly why:

Simple answer
Every time Eve drops off the top, someone mentions it on the Eve forum and tells people to go review it on here.
Eve players are very protective of sites and things that show eve in a positive light.
And so they should be. The game is the best thing on the planet by far.
Its like an underdog culture. Eve players know it kicks all the more heavily subscribed and popular games into touch.
Think of it as word of mouth advertising.
