Whilst I am over 40 I have only recently played any MMORPG and I am throughly enjoying Guild Wars (and dont want to get into an argument over whether it is a MMORPG or not) so I havent actually quit a MMORPG yet.

I am looking at Tabula Rasa as I have a deep love of sci-fi (from extensive reading), I enjoy the occasional FPS game, and I would like a game with deeper Role-play aspects and it seems to me that Tabula Rasa will deliver on this.

As for content - I like to explore, I like to help other people, and I like co-op PvE and I almost forgot - I like to try different class / skill combinations. I have barely finished the first Guild Wars campaign, and I am only half-way through the two expansions. So I dont expect I will run out of content any time soon. So all up I have probably played 1500 hours in Guild Wars.

And yes I guess I am far from the norm of younger (yes I am stereotyping) gamers who rush through a game in the fastest time possible without looking around, exploring or taking time to really do much of anything and then complain that there is no content. ie finished Guild Wars PvE in 30 hours or less.

    WOOT! You are awesome!

The game looks awesome... but consentual PvP only in arenas means I won't even try it.

The first thing to keep in mind is the diffrence between Player Vrs Player (PVP) and what some call Open PVP (ganking).

The reasion those that call for open pvp in games hate battlegrounds is because the battlegrounds restrict player lvls, thus a lvl 60 can not come into a lvl10 battleground.  See those calming to love the thrill of fighting other players dont actually want the risk of a fair fight thus the cry for the open PVP which is simply the need to gank players that have no chance.  If you want open PVP then there are hundred of death match games out there but we all know that you would never play those because then you would be forced to actually fight equal players.

A non squad based RPG does not need PVP to be good, what is needs is good co op play.  Now a squad based RPG does need PVP but it does not need open PVP, actually no game, except death matches, need open pvp.  It's like the post "of your playing a WWII game and you want to turn on your team and start killing the,,, WTF is wrong with you?"

MMORPGs are about teamwork and communities not about free kills. Where there is player vrs player in the game, it about us vrs them not i should be able to kill all of my own ppl (lower than me) with impunity.

Open PVP should never be in a RPG unless it's a free for all game where there is no teams, clans, corps and the only side is your own (like a GTA type game).   Even CCP relized that open pvp was bad which is why in EVE depending where you choose to attack some one you may just take a sec hit or you may get concorded.

There is something I want to point out that I think a lot of you missed about Tabula Rasa. Its not 'carebare' in any sense. You may think by first look that every player is happy and hugs eachother. But one of the first things they point out about the game is the option to make choices in missions (should I give these meds to the hospital, or take them to the battlefield?) and that makes your standing with other people differ. This is also going to happen within factions. Which also means even the simplest of pvp'ing set ups will have its epic battles between eachother. Many many terratories will be released after the game comes out in patches and this will make for territorial claims. "who is the best faction in the area?" Being able to say youve owned every team put together that showed up on your door step is easily seen by at least me. Even if it doesnt get you 'uber slaying weapons' it will get you self gratification and respect among others. These factors will also apply on the battlefield. So I think a huge connection between people out on the BF and in the towns was missed. Not everything is hunky dory in TR. They have taverns, not inns. Where is the strippers and beer! CMON! People are going to be subsiding the catostrophic events going on outside the towns with indulgences etc. People will make under the table trades for supplies and you know thats gonna make some angry people. I think the pvp in TR will more the suit the needs if you at least enjoy more then just killing someone thats not a computer. If you dont like arena type pvp, and want open pvp, then go ahead and try to fight yourselves while the Bane ambush your ass. Id get all the training my ass could get before I go and test my luck out on the battlefield. And then to later be able to say, Im in one of the top Bane destroying factions, and be able to come with the attitude that Ill contest your faction of its battlefield worthyness anytime. THATS cool.

Not to mention that these battle fields are ALWAYS changing. Sure the same bosses might be there, but in no way are there going to be identicle battles. Consider the quick thinking needed and taking cover to get a job done. A lot of the time not everyone is going to be on key and that will make things change VERY quickly. This wont be another mmo where you expect the same thing every time you step out of town. Enemies change plans based on your movements, or lack there of. They dont always do the same thing. Control points may be won in one area, but you better cover your ass in another because you can expect the bane will take your cake, and eat it too.

    "EXPECT EPIC BATTLES."

    Nuff Said.
