I've got a lot of questions about popular christian beliefs.
But the one that I wonder about the most is this.
If God is supposed to be omnipotent and have also given us free will, then why did he make it so hard to find the truth in the world for something that is so high stakes?
Here's what I mean.
If I were God and were going to setup one way to salvation (accepting Jesus Christ) and give people free will then I would setup an unmistakable message letting people know what they have to do. I wouldn't talk through people who are on the Earth, because I would know that is going to setup doubt in peoples minds. I mean how do we know who is lying or not? And I wouldn't allow for different religions in the world. That sets up confusion for people too. How do we know who is right or wrong? Because our parents told us so??? How do we know they weren't lied to? And then why does God allow people to be born in different cultures that have different beliefs if the only way to salvation is Jesus Christ?
I am not saying discussion of this topic is or is not a good thing. Yes I do Have several gay friends in fact my best friend Dan is Gay and unfortunately is HIV+. I do not say that to gain any kind of credibility, just stating a fact. Yes it is good to debate, all I am saying is there is a proper place and time. Well, this is one of the few outlets for these debates. Taboo subjects aren't as easily debatable in the real worls, and people don't tend to speak their true feelings face-to-face. This is the off-topic section anyway.

What about the debate that was just raging in the World of Warcraft game? There was a guild that wanted to promote itself as being gay friendly and was told they couldn't do that. The only exclusionary tactic they wanted to use was to keep out anti-gay bigots and they were told they couldn't. It took a lot of petitioning of Blizzard, but they finally changed their policy.
So, I can actually see why this debate would be on an online gaming board. We play the most social of all game genres there is. And during that gaming time I hear a lot of derogatory remarks made towards homosexuals. An MMO gamer may feel uncomfortable making a statement in game in front of his/her guildmates, but here he/she is free to voice their opinion and let out either anger or frustration.
I think a discussion like this on an MMO board is relevant enough just for that reason. It's like an outlet for people to voice their opinions.
And I, for one, don't think you're being a bitch like you said. I think you're just voicing an opinion. Like everyone else. But part of participating in a debate is being open to hearing the other sides argument.
And I want to say one other thing. I am pretty proud of the majority of the people on these boards to be able to have a discussion like this. Yes, there have been some childish remarks on this thread, but they were either quickly stomped down or just simply ignored. Nobody really has been flaming. Both sides of this argument have put up their points and argued them in a civil way. I'm sure that's why this thread hasn't been locked yet.
I think this websites community is a very mature place to have a conversation like this and I'm happy to participate on these boards for that reason.

This is just another way for conservatives to try to split the people and galvanize them before an election. It's also an attempt to get the voters to take their eyes off the ball. If they can distract them from what's really important to our future then they can talk a few more people into voting for them.
There are people in this country who actually believe the issue of gays is more important than Iraq, our borders, our tax system, or our bloated government. It shows their mentality when they let an emotional issue take precedence over something that actually will have substantial influence on their lives in the future.

There are people in this country who actually believe the issue of gays is more important than Iraq, our borders, our tax system, or our bloated government. It shows their mentality when they let an emotional issue take precedence over something that actually will have substantial influence on their lives in the future.

I have no problem with Gays, but I am having a problem with the OPs topic and the way he is expressing himself. Its allmost as if he is amazed that gays are human or something.
I don't support the whole man/man or woman/woman thing. It's just wrong.

I love sarcasm. It's a great (and most of the time humorous) way of getting a point across.
And you don't have to flame to explain yourself. I've seen a lot of people on this thread do it tactfully. If you feel that emotional about it, then go somewhere, calm down, think about what you want to say, and then come back and say it maturely.
I'm genuinely curious about peoples attitudes about this whole topic. I think it's a revealing social phenomenon to see the way people make their decision. I also think it's intriguing to see where peoples ideas about homosexuals stem from. Well, outside of the religious influences. Everyone knows where those stem from. I'm talking about people who have really thought about it, not just think what they're told to think.
