This game is still a year away from developement! Stop worry for gods sakes!!

Your not mind readers you have no idea how this is going to turn out, i doubt Mythic and GW will allow EA to change the game that much!

Give it a rest this is stupid!

Well for me its had pretty much the same effect as SOE co publishing Vanguard. This game was on my must buy list of 1 game. Now its on the 'Not Expecting Anything Good To Come List'  As such i'm amending my Hype for the game to 0 to reflect my distaste at this decision.

EA is not a knight on a white horse, we can expect a bug filled early release that gets cancelled after a year with EA involved.

I would really like to see MJ take some notice of his core audience of customer regarding this, but i think he'll have problems seeing the issues because of the $$ in his eyes.

Games Whorkshop is a powerhouse, I highly doubt EA is going to fuck up the game, because GW would be very quick to take away the rights.

BTW, WAR is still the number one hyped game, who ever said that it dropped.

    Blizzard now has competition........

When it comes to advertising EA is pretty much the undisputed champ for the video game industry. They will make sure this title is on every tv screen and the product is in every location possible. While WOW was largely word of mouth the success of WAR will be provided by the uber juggernaut that is EA.

The only way this game can fail now is by being crappy. They wont have the excuse that they lacked mainstream advertising and distribution. If blizzard needed a reason to worry about WAR they certainly have one now.

Its dropped by .1 so far, but given the announcement was only made yesterday i expect that the Hype will have dropped more by the end of the week with AoC moving into first place.

There's really no difference. They are both run by baboons.

I have to say I am very disappointed, but I will take a wait and see approach.  EA has made some really crap decisions when it comes to their games (leaving out features for rev'd up graphics), but I will not totally abandon hope for WAR.  I do feel like someone punched me in the stomach though.  PLEASE LET EA BE THE BLIND SQUIRREL THIS TIME!

Not in the MMO realm where they have a VERY bad reputation as an MMO killer. Blizzard has nothing to worry about.

the company is first being bought in second quartal of 2007, so its not like EA will storm in and "we cancelled WAR instantly, because we saw no reason in, sellling a almost done game.."

atleast 65-80% of the game will be done, when EA take over the company, so its not like EA will interfere in any way, in the game, before it comes out.

after WAR though... its doomed to be an EA company.
its really premade judgements people are making about EA destroying WAR(not mythic, but WAR..).

    I don't like it either...

The developers of Mythic seem to be people that just love their job with the main intention of making a great MMORPG since it is probably their main hobby as well...

EA on the other hand cares about one thing only: cash. And they will try to make as much money out of this as possible. Just as SoE.

I'm just afraid that WAR will transform into a game which is made for the masses, with the only goal having as many subscribers as possible.

Its intresting to note tho that corprate greed can get them to do some crazy stuff. It took Will Wright quite some time to convince them to make The Sims. Which if i remember correctly was a Virtual Dollhouse lol. Greed kicks in and hes practically given a no touch policy lately. With the success of The Sims 2 he basically has them slobbering for more money, in steps Spore. Talk about a risk, they basically are allowing him free reign. From what Ive heard from friends in the business he does have some strings attached. Hes also managed to get EA to allow him some very... unusual programmers hehe. So that said, if MJ can manage to make them a profit they mite give them more leancy then say Madden Sports.. gah that ones R.I.P.

I really hope that EA won't do any harm to WAR :(

  • ShaydeShayde Member Posts: 4,529
    It means this..

Mythic will cease to exist. It will become EA and only EA. Remember Westwood Studios?

If WAR doesn't sell through the roof, it's gone in 6 months.

If the subscriptions fall, it's cancelled.

Damn I miss Earth & Beyond.

I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

if you check the site of the warband, they have statements from the project leader, mark jacob.

    www.thewarband.com

    mark jacob says:

    1) Nothing is changing with WAR or the WAR design. The game's goals are the same goals as they were before.
    2) EA is not buying Mythic to interfere with the management or the game design of WAR.
    3) EA has never, ever said that they want to change the deal with GW (Games Workshop) and to the contrary have reaffirmed their commitment to the same deal that we made with them. They are incredibly excited about WAR especially after what they saw at E3.
    4) I know many are going to find this hard to believe but we have spent a lot of time with the key guys at EA and we find their passion for doing great games and what they think is great, dovetails nicely with our current vision. We wouldn't have done this deal if EA had said to us, we want you to turn WAR into WoW 1.5.

I'll still play it.  Just because EA bought them doesn't mean I'm flushing this game down the toilet.

  • dimarypdimaryp Member Posts: 109
My question is, why did they sell?

I work for a company that has offers to buy us all the time; we do not even consider them.  We know what we have, and we know it is good because of us.

    That's all I'm saying.

Fiscal 2007 which for EA could be as early as JULY 2006, a lot depends on when EA's financial year runs from , not all company years start in January.
  • dimarypdimaryp Member Posts: 109

If I am not mistaken, EA's 2nd quarter fiscal year 2007, ends ...

    September 30, 2006.

Yeah SoE is a little better at the MMO genre.

Can't wait to slay John Madden and his Tiger Woods pet in the marshes of madness.

I can see it now, everytime you hit him he goes "POW" or "BOOM".

It's really bad news when your company is willing to sell out to a company with a very bad reputation.

This game has been knocked down a few pegs already in the hype meter, if it keeps going they might lose their "wow killer" title before they even enter beta.

But let's see how Beta goes, maybe the Mythic rep's aren't trying to spoon feed the customers BS like every other MMO company.

Before the EA announcement this game was on my preorder or release day list.

Now this game could be a wait and see like WoW's expansion pack.  That all depends on how good it is in Beta and how much news/video comes out of Beta to convince me EA has been locked out of all facets of development.

Well, seeing how well EA did with BattleField 2 pacthes and how it can run on EVERY computer now..... Sorry, I'm sorry I can't keep up with the joke. This is a sad day for WAR.

I have reservations about EA - but at the same time they did make mythics co-founder a vice president - maybe he will be ballzey enough to tell the other part of EA to keep out of it.. im in charge :P
