When is Mythic going to start officially answering questions as to what all is involved in this deal with EA? Ever Mythic rep. I've seen on the boards keeps stating they aren't allowed to speak of the matter in question.

When the deal is complete I'm sure. As people have stated many times throughout this and the other threads on the subject, deals involving publically traded companies can not be discussed beforehand or during the process.

Did they close UO? No, because it maintained a solid fanbase and drew in a large number of initial subscribers. Box sales and initial subscription fees were enough to maintain the game and get a return on the investment. Thus... UO stays open. As long as it's keeping afloat and at least breaking even (if not being staying profitable), a MMORPG stays open.
MMORPGs are all about launch success. If they can't get enough interest and community built in the first month of service, a game is more or less doomed. It's all about developement cost vs. returned profits. If the cap is just far too large, and the continued maintenance and developement isn't going to return a profit in any forseeable future... then a game SHOULD be canned. MMORPGs are costly to develope and maintain. UO2 was highly anticipated and had tod mcfarlan drawing the models. Every uo player drooled over this game. Canceled it would interfere with uo subs. Dumbest move on any companys part.
If WAR does fail... it will be because it is a bad enough game that noone keeps playing it. If Mythic are the people making the game, then it will be their fault that it's a bad game... not the people giving them the money to increase developement time and effort. MBJ has stated MULTIPLE times on WarhammerAlliance that if the deal didn't ensure that they would get the freedom they need to make a good game, then they wouldn't have even accepted. Ea killed uo and forced richard garrot out. It wasnt origon.
But hey... I personally think EA is terrible too... I just have enough faith in Mythic to make a good game. In alot of ways this is more of EA backing up Mythic not the other way around. It's EA who's risking more by acquiring Mythic. Mythic's success or failure is now DIRECTLY their success or failure.
But hey... even my hype dropped from a 10 to 8... I'm still hopeful and looking forward to seeing what the game has to offer when it's released (which is still a long ways off). If it's good... then who bloody cares where their money came from to make the game? If it was going to be good without EA, then it's going to be even better since Mythic has more money to put towards developement. If it was going to suck before EA stepped in... chances are it's still going to suck... since it's Mythic making the game, not EA.
I have not liked EA since the company became more about the stockholders than creating good games. EA used to be an incredible collaboration of game designers. Freefall Associates, Paul Reich III, among others. In their heyday EA put out Archon, M.U.L.E., 7 Cities of Gold, One on One, the list of classics goes on and on. But when EA bought Origin Systems and systematically destroyed my favorite game studio, I grew an intense hatred for what they had become.
That said, I honestly believe EA wants to be successful in the MMORPG market. I also do not believe Mark Jacobs would throw his baby (Mythic Entertainment)to the wolves. I believe Mythic struck a deal that will give them the creative freedom necessary, and at the same time give them access to funds and resources that ultimately will result in better games. I do not believe EA will repeat the mistakes of their sordid MMORPG past. The stakes are too high...

Warhammer which was already having issues just took a nose dive.. First its original developers bailed on it, now Mythic sells its soul to EA who has been known to bail on MMORPG'S (See EnB) and destroy others see UO....
Why would EA buy into Mythic and then bail on their number one project?
Seems more likely that they see WoW's 6 million subs did the math and want in.
The real question is who calls the shots from here out. EA who has proven even to themselves they don't know squat about the genera, or Mythic who has been doing it for ten years.

Time will tell.
They won't bail on WAR, EA will just destroy it because they haven't got a clue... about anything.
I'm serious beyond disappointment, and this is over a freaking game!!! The reason for this though, is because games recently have been going more and more downhill, all build too "n00b friendly", and by that i mean the games are too easy to learn, and you get bored of them very quickly.
WAR was the game that i thought was going to change all this, i thought finally, someone has the balls to create an actual game... but instead they just shake hands with the biggest game-killers ever and strike disappointment to so many gamers.
This might sound harsh, i may get flamed, it might get me a warning, or even a ban on these forums, but, you're scum Mythic. Pure sell-out scumbags.
I'll be brutally honest about my gripes with EA. I outright distrust them, and anything they touch I see as tainted. EA has gobbled up many great developers and inherited nothing from them. Let's look at Bullfrog and Maxis. Both were companies well known for making innovative games, games that broke boundaries and were creative in sometimes bizarre ways. EA took them over for whatever reason, probably because of financial mistakes by said developersthat weakened them and made them require such a buyout to stay floating. Now that both companies have been pretty well absorbed within EA, what has the gaming consumer gained? Did EA begin making innovative games because of it? Absolutely not, EA right now is notorious for lack of innovation. I recall a quote from an EA executive hyping that they tried to make one completely new game all year apart from their sequels and existing brands. 'Try' to make one. EA always seems to go for sure things, which is why they produce sports game sequels into infinity.
The cancelling of several prominant mmorpg further erodes my trust of the company. Now I'll freely admit Earth and Beyond wasn't the most popular game, and its numbers fell as the game went on, but let's look at it from the other side. It came out right when EA acquired Westwood, and seemed to be lost in the paperwork somewhere. There were almost no adds for the game, and new content was almost non-existent. When, after a year into the game when the final three classes were not released (they had been promised since the very begining 'very soon') we all started smelling something. How can you expect people to stick with a game that no one knows about and you don't support? I believe that EnB was the first mmorpg ever to shut down, whatever the real reason that's still a nasty blemish on your record.
Ultima Online 2 and Ultima X: Odyssey are more worrisome. The official reason given by EA was they were cancelled because they feared the games would draw customers from Ultima Online, so they cancelled both of them to focus their efforts on the original game. This is the official reason given, I remember the press releases. If I forget everything else I dislike about EA I need only this to distrust them completely.
EA has always struck me as a company run solely in the board room; the kind of company that makes all its decisions based on surveys and demographic studies. Regardless of whether this is true or not, that is also the reputation EA has earned itself.
I'm willing to give most companies the benefit of the doubt, and some have really pulled themselves out of big holes. But why should I trust anything EA is involved in? Their reputation is repugnant. EA is well beyond the point where I grant them any kind of faith. I have not purchased an EA game in a very long time because I expect that, after the game is released and they've made their money, the game will be forgotten and never patched or supported.
If EA is going in a new direction, if something drastic has finally changed within the faceless juggernaut, then I will wait to see results. I like Mythic and respect the company, they have proven themselves to be a group that cares about their games. I do not like EA and do not believe EA cares about any of its games beyond mopping up money. It's true that this is a business, but I'd rather spend money on a company that cares. So now I have Mythic, who I like, and EA, who I hate, together. I don't fear that the Mythic people will sell out, I fear that they will be swept aside by the steamroller, just like all the other developers before them. I hear that the terms of this deal are different, that Mythic will retain much more control, that EA went to Mythic with the deal. These give me some hope, but I do not trust EA.
I cannot say that often enough. I absolutely do not trust EA.

And that is all that matters Mythic is under contract with GW... EA assumes those contracts when they acquire mythic. If EA does anything that would ruin WAR Games Workshops can just pull the license away from mythic and find another developer. This is assuming "ruining the game" would breach parts of mythic's contracts with GW.
The key to surviving under EA control is funding, i very much doubt that Mythic EA will have autonomous control over their own funding. They will just as all the other companies assimilated by EA before be reliant on asskissing for funding projects that these highup asses dont want to fund cause they're not sequels of previous mega successes.
Still, it shouldnt affect Warhammer, and i think that as long as EA keeps their slimy fingers away from THIS project, War can actually benefit from this.

But then again, I'd be kind of disapointed if WAR was the next EVE or WoW and those came from small companies.
EA isnt MAKING war. The previous mythic employees are... Why does everybody always assume the worse? EA bought Mythic, the devs are still the same. The game will be better because they have more money to work with.
EA cant screw wit the game they said they wont eather go read some news in a magazine plz...plus EA has money which is good for mythic this deal was actualy good -_-

Exactly! EA doesnt even own Mythic yet. They wont until second quarter 2007 when the game is due to be released. Think people please
I think EA should understand that if they screw up they wont get our money and we will all go to Age of Conan.
