just because you post misinformation a bazillion times, and it's something i CAN look up and verify, it won't make the lies become truth. curse that internet! yeah, that 4 page gamespot review with the 9.5 rating is complete rubbish and has no useful information about the game today - fact. whine, squeal, whatever; call me stupid, a child, a loser; it won't change the truth.
you want the truth? you can't handle the truth!!! tadah! and here we have the proof Damian7 think his oppinion = fact. the review actually DOES give plenty of information about the game. you fail to see that, because your biased. you don't like the game, so you think its a fact its bad. so sad, truly sad.
I didn't post any lies around here. your the only one that has been posting lies. "there are a lot of asian MMO's with more subscribers then WoW" looks familiar eh?
do not worry it is better to be a "fanboi" then an asshat
the word fanboi is a dirty word much like the evil word penguin. It is used commonly in arguments to accuse someone of defending something in a loving or passionate manner. About the time it is used the user of this word is becoming defenseless and has no other option but to accuse his counterpart/s in the argument that they somewhat have a loving relationship with the object being discussed.

An example of a fanboi.
I have a guy working for me that is a hardcore OU Sooners fan. Last weekend he said that the Quarterback, Bomar, and All Day Peterson are the reasons the Sooners will win the national championship this year. He then went on to tell how Bomar is a great QB, probably the best, and has a cannon for an arm.
This morning it was announced that Bomar was kicked from the Sooners for accepting money since he was on a full scholorship. And the Sooner fan in question now says that Bomar was mediocre at best and that team was being held back by Bomar. He continued by saying that thanks to Bomar being gone, the team will definately take the championship.
That is a true fanboi. Someone who will justify everything done with the object of their fanatical aspirations. No matter how bad it is they will shout to the heavens how perfect the change was. Be it the replacement of a band member, a game patch, or even the removal/addition of a player.
Personally I know WoW has problems. Name a game that doesnt have a single problem and is loved by everyone that plays it or has played it. I dare anyone to do this. There are things in WoW I would change or add if I had control. Everyone has ideas in that regard also. There are things in WoW I hate and cant see how Blizzard even thought to do them. But compared to the 20+ MMOs I have played its the only thing out there that works. It is definately better. And yes the 5 million people playing are proof of this. If it wasnt better they wouldnt be playing.
Some say its because of the name it carries. Well a name will only carry it so far. Look at SWG. Probably the most popular "name" to set a MMO in. It doesnt have 5 million players. It barely has 100k. FFXI has the Final Fantasy tag, also a well known "name" but again not as popular even in Japan. UO has Ultima carrying it and again not that popular comparitvely. TSO is another one. Sims was undoubtly a popular game.
Others say its because its easy to get into. While that is true for the most part its also a misrepresentation. Sure WoW is easy to get into in regards to basic gameplay. But once you get into the crafting, skills, secondary points, and even some quests/pvp; it does take skill.
Still more say that the 5 million are mostly kids. One person even said that because of someone he knew was in a guild full of kids. I am in a guild with over 100 members. 20% of them are under the age of 18. And those 20% are the children of some of the adults in our guild. I am the oldest in my guild at 36.
Personally I think its just because it works. In a time when most games coming out are so buggy they should come with free cans of Raid, WoW attracts players because the majority of the game does work and is almost bug free. There are bugs or so I am told but I have yet to come across any of them. When you have games coming out like SWG that are still in beta even after 4 years of live release, games like EQ2 that just cant quite find their niche, or even Non-MMO games like BF:V that get released with huge imbalances; WoW is actually a breath of fresh air. You know, after you install the game and its updates, that it will run just fine 99% of the time.
Before WoW hit, game companies knew there was only a small number of people within the MMO market and attracting more then that was near to impossible. SWG developers wanted 1 million players before the game came out. But they "knew" the US market share wouldnt have that many. Other game companies felt the same. Then WoW came and blew that myth away.
Call me a fanboi if you want. But WoW has 5 million+ players. If it wasnt good it wouldnt have that many. So they are doing something right. Argue it all you want but that is a fact.
i agree!! WoW just sucks, it was good and fun in the beginning but then they just ignored all the customers, added some bullshit content no one's interested and calling that "an update". Community sucks, performance lag sucks, fun: 1-59 fun for the 1st time, then turn 60 and boom u r fucked for life. Stupid dungeons take hours to complete and guess what? drops few epics and u have very small chance getting it unless u've been raiding wit yo guild since the start. PvP system is the worst!!!! OMFG AV, Warsong?? puuhhhleeeez. no freedom at all in that game, the developers never listen to customers, they just keep adding "their" content and ignoring the customers, no new classes being added for next expansion, 2 new races?? horde pally and ally shaman?? PUHLEEEZZZZ Blizzard just dont care about customers anymore, so i'd suggest quit the game and move on to other MMO's like DarkFall, Age of COnan, more mature games, where devs understand and actually pay attention to customers. Final word is WoW is for kids, full of 13 year olds gathered, just a horrible game and horrible company. By the way DarkFall is gonna pwn other MMO's, so i suggest u to quit this horrible game and move on to games that give u the real "freedom"!!

So you have seen these upcoming games as final products at release? You know how Darkfall and Conan will be the day its released? You have seen the future? You got a crystal ball? This reminds me of the time the DnL gang were talking. Almost identical word for word to what you said. I wonder what happened there. Oh yeah. DnL had........ issues.
You can not compare a game already released to games that arent released and arent even in beta yet. You dont know what condition the games will be in. You dont know how buggy they will be or what features will be "held back because of time constraints".
The kids? I am 36 and own a business. In my guild there is a lawyer. Several of my customers with massive degrees from MIT, Yale, etc plays including a well known paleontologst play. I found out a few weeks ago that my mother's doctor plays. A news story here talked about two well respected detectives with in the community that play. A large chunk of the US service men play. Are any of those the kids your talking about?
I respect your posts Kaibigan. You state the good and bad points of Wow. As for the numbers argument. I don't know. I just think Wow is very mainstream and does have a very low learning curve. Why? Heh, my six year old sister played it. Man, kids are amazing. If you are wondering if I'm a kid too...yeah I wish. I'll be thirty next year. I read that Korea's MapleStory has over 40 million players. (Not getting into the whole accounts vs subscribers argument) I guess if a game is great and fun then that is probably up to everyone's individual opinion. The game doesn't appeal to me at all.
Since Wow had such a low learning curve for me I decided to play it as a single player game. I found that I stuck with the game longer and enjoyed it a lot more playing that way. Once I got to level 60 I quit. Why? Heh, because it was game over. I won. I didn't get the best loot or do all the side quests, but I don't always do that in single player/fps games. Unlike some other MMOs I generally didn't like the community of Wow. I think that is personal experience. Some people have met great friends from this game, but I wasn't so lucky. Most of the people I ran into sounded childish (using slang and numbers in their words: l33t spek) or incredibly selfish.
I am a fantasy geek and pretty proud of it. I see people complaining about the fact that fantasy has been done and it is getting old and all I can do is laugh. Never gets old for me. A lot more console and single shooter players have joined the ranks of mmo players and it shows by the demands that they ask for from mmo developers. I just hope that they don't ruin the genre so much that it can't be rebuilt once they get bored with it and move on. I'm pretty much just taking cover til the storm blows over.
I played Wow and enjoyed it for what it was to me. If you are a big fantasy geek like me I would probably suggest another game for you or try not to let the Wow community dictate how you see the game. Hey, NWN2 will be coming soon. Can't wait.
Those problem aren't exclusive to WoW. You'll find every single thing in that list in almost every single mmo. You could take out the word wow and replace it with <insert any mmo>

Im talking about in general, 70% of all wow players are kids and by the way DnL was piece of crap anyways, the devs were bad from the first day, i could see in their words that they werent gonna put much work into that game thas why i just ignored that game, but darkfall sounds different, they've been working on it for several years now and developers are very excited about their work and thas how devs should be if they aim to release their game. I kno there are some grown up players in WoW. When u play WoW u r get too deep into that Blizzard hypnotic world that u r not aware of other games, u kno that Blizzard is big company thas why players trust it and some players just "hope" that Blizzard will make a huge update or lil by lil to get to the point where recent mmo's are at. My bro and my friends still play WoW and i told them about the "Blizzard world" where customer's opinions are not heard and they said that they love WoW and WoW is great cuz of all the legendary and epic items, rofl i showed them other games, real-time combat system and they were like "oh thas neat, i hope blizzard will do it someday" i mean they r not opening their eyes, when DarkFall comes out, they will see the real deal about PvP, faction vs faction. And another thing, i dont care what u do or what ur guildmates do, they r just 4-5 ppl from 5 million, tell me how many of your guildmates sound like a kid?? prolly more than 70% right? Well Mr.Business owner enjoy ur stay wit kids and someday if u tell that u play WoW to some other ppl u meet they might think u r a molester, and u might be who knows, 36 and in WoW world with buncha kids? u must be loving them kid sounding boys huh? BTW is ur business called "Molester's Heaven" or something??? ROFL

Actually I am a fossil diver. I sale fossils to scientists, collectors, stores, and even the random interested persons who just has to have a Meggie or Mammy tooth. You dont even know me and already your insinuiating me of something so disgusting... Man your sick. You really need to seek some help. That isnt a joke. I am serious. Go see a doctor. Your not right in the head.
Now please post the official links that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt 70% of the game's population is kids. Until then your only speculating and it seems speculating for people that enjoy playing this game is a bad thing. That is a double edged sword man. If we arent allowed to speculate then neither are you. So go ahead and post those official links telling of population percentages. We are all waiting.
There is over 100 people in my guild. 80% are adults. The children in our guild are the kids of some of the guild members. Not 4 or 5 people. Over 100. Now if someone else can use the example of one guild that his relative is in, not him, as evidence that most of the players are kids then I think my example of a guild that I am actually in is better proof that its not 70% kids.
You dont know a thing about any of the games coming out. I have seen games that sounded so sweet before release. The majority of the community KNEW this game would be awesome. Only to find out its complete crap later. So please stop using examples of things not even released yet to support your claims. You sound as bad as those guys over at the SWG forum who keep hearing rumors about the future of SWG.
There is over 100 people in my guild. 80% are adults. The children in our guild are the kids of some of the guild members. Not 4 or 5 people. Over 100. that's still a lot of kids.

20% is not alot. Its a minority. Not as much as you and that sicko are suggesting.
Personally I think WoW is about 40% under the age of 18. But that is personal opinion. Which is par for the course for most MMOs.
Now go ahead and post official links to the amount of kids playing WoW or stop trying to use it as an excuse to bash the game.

Now to my post. Why is WoW a GOOD game? 5 Million players cant be wrong! That is why.
notice how you start that line with ow to my post. INSINUATING, i'm sorry, STATING "hey, here is where my actual post/feelings begin. that, dear hermana, is fanboi 100% from the heart!
by the by, emo is NOT an excuse for bad manners, but don't let good sense stand in the way... do what you feel you need to do, hermana.
Thank you for proving me correct here. Basically we are not allowed to tot or state if we like or enjoy a game. Instead we all must be repressed haters that put down everything. Thanks again. So no real discussion can happen. I am sorry. I thought this was a forum board. Obviously this a "I hate everything in existence because if I dont then I am labelled a fanboi" board.
Kai
Why is WoW a GOOD game? 5 Million players cant be wrong! That is why. <<< that's not an opinion about ANYTHING that has to do with the game. does that mean you have great character creation? great classes? great instances? does that tell ANYTHING about the game in the slighest bit? no. it requires no thought at all -- fanboi. it's a flag waved constantly by fanbois, who, are unable to intelligently articulate good/bad points about the game. hence the label - fanboi. don't like the lablel? then actually point out good/bad parts of the game and don't make fanboi comments which IN YOUR OWN WORDS are the meat of your post. bleh, whatever
I love how you keep the rest of my post out of yours so you can support your arguement. Wouldnt want people who read this post of yours to see that I actually did give comment more then just one line. Like where I said all MMOs have the issues listed by the OP.
I also love how you said that is a flag constantly waved by fanbois. Hmmm EQ2 fanbois ever say they had 5 million players? How about Eve fanbois? Heck how about SWG fanbois? N0. Hmmm I wonder why.....
Kai
Or maybe its the superior attitude for no good reason? But then who can I say to someone that always thinks they are right? How about this? Can WoW say that it started the MMO market? No. Hmmm I wonder why..... See how pretentious that is? Probably not. Since it is coming from you.
Well that is because another game started the MMO genre and though I never played it I have heard it was an awesome game in its day. So if anyone came to me and said that game was good because it started the whole thing then I would have to agree. Your still grasping at straws there champ.
I dont really care if I am wrong or right. You seem to be the only one hung up on the whole issue of being right or wrong since you keep bringing it up all the time. Hmmmmmm
Kai
Sure I do skippy. You can make up lies all you want. Like fake arguments that I never started or insinuated at. You just can't accept the fact that your really pampas with your attitude and when someone calls you on it you get hurt. I wasn't grasping at straws anywhere. You seem to be caught up on that. I'm sorry that I was showing you how pretentious you are and you can't accept it, but that's ok. I still love you! Come on... Where is that hug?
Siehst du mich Erkennst du mich Ganz tief in meinem Herz ist noch ein Platz f?r dich Ich suche dich Ich sehne mich nach dem was ich geliebt hab doch ich find es nicht
I agree with the OP's point about lack of updates. For a company raking in as much cash as they are, they should be able to come up with content a lot faster than their current pace.
I also agree with the feeling of sameness between all the characters. There really is no way to alter your core stats/abilities to make them different than others. Advancement is extremely linear.
IMO (for what thats worth) this game is popular for a few reasons.
1. The Blizzard name. They make good games. This game had a massive amount of hype pre-release and it was a fun game when it came out.
2. The game feels polished. The character animations are smooth. The interface is good and very customizable. The camera is the best of any game I've played. They did quite well with that and it make an instant impression.
3. The game doesn't kill your computer and its bug free. Its easy to meet the system reqs and thats a good thing.
4. And finally the game is ridiculously simple. A trained monkey can play it. Its not deep and its not hard. The death penalty is non existant. This truly is an MMO for the masses. And its part of the reason why there are so many subscribers. Its colorful, light hearted, easy, carefree gaming fun for those not looking to deep. Yet it offers the carrot on the stick for those that want to grind out 40 man raids. It appeals to everyone.
With all that said, I don't play the game much anymore. Its all to static and linear for me. The spells are the same for everybody at every level. Unlike EQ2 where rare loot spells exists for classes and a bulk of your spell/combat advancement comes though either looting spell upgrades or crafting them yourself from rare components. Wow just doesn't do this. You know at level 40 you will be getting these abilites the same as every level 40 befor you and after you. The game is completely loot centric. Character development, at its core, has very very little to do with how good you are compared to the next guy.
Games like AC where you could pick your exact starting attributes makes it unique, or Saga of Ryzom where you can be anything you want all in the same character, offer a much more dynamic character advancment experience that WoW.
WoW is just so much of the same. Its like playing an MMO with the training wheels on. 5 million people certainly aren't wrong about what they want. But, I imagine a lot of people that come to this site and particularly the ones that bother to post on the forums are after something a bit deeper with their gaming experience. WoW just doesn't fill that need.

WoW just doesn't fill that need.
great post almost the exact reasons I don't play WoW way too linear for me. I do play Lineage 2 now after a number of mmo's (never played everquest 2 though) and it feels less of a grind then WoW. I don't know why exactly I really enjoy Lineage 2 but it's extremely fun for me and it has a good PvP aspect and great community on the most part.
The real reason WoW sux is because they made the end game content for 10% of the player base. Those that can get geared can compete in end game those that cant well...cant. They need to learn how to make the dungeons fun instead of stupidily difficult. They need to fix class balanced. They refuse to recognize they have a problem and they wont until no one is playing the game anymore.
You can add to those 8 reasons: community and raiding.
Community
90% of the server will most likely remain on ignore, there are that many $£%J's playing. Name me another MMO were using /ignore and leaving the general public chat enhances your game especially if you are a roleplayer.
Raiding
My main gripe isn't with raiding itself, it's the large numbers needed for raiding. Simply put 40 is too many, getting that number of people together online at the same time with a 4-6 hour window is crazy. I found out that ALL EQ2 raids are maximum 24 people, that means that encounters and content can be balanced much easier it doesn't make it less fun. I'd rather the top limit was 20 much like ZG. I really don't have a problem with the actual raiding it is just the logistics that go with it. Big guilds will run 2 raids simultaneously and smaller more casual guilds can still get a look in.
Take a look at Onyxia, it is just one 'boss' there are already videos out there with 10-man groups killing her so why design the encounter with that many in the first place. Yes you could argue that those 10 had better gear from raids anyway, but if all raids were designed with 20 in mind then that wouldn't be an issue. Most of the bosses, ironically except ZG, have 2 maybe 3 lieutenants. If World of Warcraft is supposed to be casual, then why give a raid boss 1.1 million hit points.
Same with battlegrounds, it's a ZERG not skill. [that's a bit different, because that was actually fun mostly]
Lots of people say that all that raiding is what kills WoW, but when you analyse it [and I'm surprised that there wasn't another reason devoted to raiding] you realise that there is just no need to have 40 players raiding.
Maybe, just maybe the current raid encounters will be retrospectively designed for 20 level 70 players, but that is a longshot and I really don't see the point in doing that.
Originally posted by willwinuk I love the game, thats all I care about. I am sure the original poster has made good points, but if its fun so what?
I'm actually shopping for a new game and figured WoW might be fun for a while. I play two titles and have for a while. about 3 years of anarchy online with a couple of pay accounts and DaoC.
3 years of AO I dont have a single 220 char (max lvl) I could very easilly have grinded one, but it's about the journey, not the end. I have fun playing the game and have several chars that can participate in endgame material, just no pressure to max cap em. they are title capped (love my MP's title...Diety )
I dont want to quit either title I'm playing, but after a while any game will lose some of it's luster...or at least it will for me. I wont speak for everyone. I just want to find somewhere to go and have some fun and some new experiences.
No endgame content...well last I heard there are several other games on the market. try em out, dont bother trolling. Take a break from it for a bit...try another game. This will either make you miss what you had and give you a new perspective on your previous title. Or you might just find you like your new game better. Maybe take a break altogether and just enjoy some time with your significant other/friends/kids/family you might just need a reality break. I've taken RL breaks ( been playing online stuff since the day of BBs's) sometimes downtime in the real world will give you an entirely new perspective.
If it aint fun dont do it. You're paying for the priveledge to play. If it aint worth the time and simply causing you to focus anger towards the company, put it down for a bit. Voice your concerns if need be, but what's the point in developing an ulcer over an MMO?

you want the truth? you can't handle the truth!!!
tadah! and here we have the proof Damian7 think his oppinion = fact.
the review actually DOES give plenty of information about the game. you fail to see that, because your biased. you don't like the game, so you think its a fact its bad.
so sad, truly sad.

ROFL, WoW = McDonalds of mmorpgs, they have lotsa ppl becuz around that time wow was only game ppl would go to after getting bored from other games, and now WoW is = plain shit compared to upcoming games. 5 million kids still sticking to WoW and let them be, eat yo McDonald bigmacs and play WoW kids. WoW is not worth $50 + $15/month at all, oh well let the kids stay in WoW cartoony world and all the mature ppl moving on.....good thing we gonna get rid of kids in darkfall and age of conan cuz kids will cry cuz they wont understand the concept of those games
Anyone know when 'soon' is going to be? >_<

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.

Can't wait.

Kai
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
20% is not alot. Its a minority. Not as much as you and that sicko are suggesting.
Personally I think WoW is about 40% under the age of 18. But that is personal opinion. Which is par for the course for most MMOs.
Now go ahead and post official links to the amount of kids playing WoW or stop trying to use it as an excuse to bash the game.
Kai
Siehst du mich
Erkennst du mich
Ganz tief in meinem Herz
ist noch ein Platz f?r dich
Ich suche dich
Ich sehne mich
nach dem was ich geliebt hab
doch ich find es nicht
But, I imagine a lot of people that come to this site and particularly the ones that bother to post on the forums are after something a bit deeper with their gaming experience.
Voice your concerns if need be, but what's the point in developing an ulcer over an MMO?
just my .02 cents worth
