Anti-American Sentiment

MerodocMerodoc Member Posts: 227
I cannot walk ten virtual feet on the internet without tripping over a crude anti-American insult or flame for being a "conservative, bible-thumping redneck."
It is absurd. Not all Americans feel one way, are one way, or act one way--yet we all are ostracized for views we may or may not hold. It is absurd to hold today's generation to blame or at fault because of the actions of previous generations. Americans today have no say over foreign policy or what our president does; similarly, it is unfair to play monday morning quarterback with our history. I think we should discuss the inane and absurd people who rant and rave about America even though they have never lived in America and know scant few Americans.

I blame the media. Anger/violence/ignorance sells well and gives good raitings.

Yeah. For some reason the media likes to always side on the left.  Hardly ever on the right; which isn't very neutral if you ask me.

Anyways, just follow what you believe in and if someone bashes you for what you believe in just remember you are the better man not having to resort to name calling.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

the left? on our media? that's liberal and i know of one liberal station on the 400 satelite stations i get. fstv and their satelite stopped working for like a month after this donation drive. lol.  if you talking about europe then maybe.  they at least they definetely have some anti-american sentiment within their culture at the moment and probably during many times in history.  Lol freedom fries.  Stupid cocky things like that is why just 1 miniscule but funny and good example of why they don't like us(on top of this war, believe what you want you all know what I'm saying.WOMD's).

When I listen to the radio in America, all I hear is anti-rest of the world sentiment.

What radio stations do you listen to, then? Most US radio stations deal with domestic issues, though the few forays into foreign policies are usually laced with distrust...

I hate when people talk **** about america in games, they only do it because everyone has guts when their as far away as an interent connection.

I also hate it when people have to put there stupid country tag in front of their name, who cares if your a [FIN] or a [GER] in a video game.

They say only intelligent people choose the colour green for there cars........ Joking aside

The USA is in a really strange place ATM and I worry. It’s getting more like a rouge state than a beacon of freedom and democracy. The government is taking away civil rights almost daily, it’s also getting very religious. (Overly so many say) outside of the UK and Israel more and more countries in the world are starting to dislike America and actively blame the USA for many things (and rightfully so in most cases) WTO failing to energy prices and increased terror attacks around the world but to name a few

If you look at history most countries that start ideological wars start acting like the USA is now and its not as thou changing you government will help both parties are the same and have the same financial supporters (more or less)

What America needs is some sort of revolution or at the very least a purge of the corrupt congress and lobby groups and a rebalancing of it identity along with a reminder of what America set out to be

Come to think of it the UK could do with some polishing off too

FYI I'm not anti-American, its just your goverment is getting away with way too much

Tin Foil hats dont work.. its all a conspiracy

The U.K. isn't especially pro American. 65% believe America to be the biggest threat to world security. 62% believe Blair is too close to Bush. And Blair is not re-electable.

Parliament voted NOT to go to war in Iraq. Brtitish involvement in that war prompted the largest civic demonstration in the history of the nation. (Since then demonstrations without government approval have been banned). And our civilians have resorted to terror bombing in protest.

America is still very popular with the WW2 generation, but not really anyone else.

i am not anti-american either but being a neighbor it distresses me most that a majority of americans that i talk to agree with me but are still unwilling to fight for REAL freedom.

What do you expect us to do about the government? Put on red caps and start cutting the politicians heads off with a guilliotine?

Should I put off my job, and my responsibility to my family and face criminal charges just because you say its the responsibility of the people who live here? the US is controlled by money and power. Neither of which your average joe has lots of. Contrary to what you think most of us in the US arent rich, arent lazy, and damn Im really offended with your attitude. I wish I was going to retire on some lakeside property, and all that I had to worry about was the mortgage.

I mean no offense to you personally, but I think you are sadly uninformed about your average American, as far as I know, most of the money in the U.S. belongs to a VERY VERY VERY small percentage of people, while the rest of us scrape by. Im not going to neglect my job, my income for my family, time with my wife and kids just because you too have been mislead by international media and feel I should be out screaming about how bad America is. Sorry man, my family is more important to me than your mislead wordly views.

    If not you, then who?

I think your final sentence sums it up, you don't think there is any problem with America. You are happy with it. Content. You have bought into it. And any thought that you might rebel against it is "mislead". It is more likely in your mind that the rest of the entire world has been mislead by a global media conspiracy than a few Americans have.

You are having a good life, no reason to rock the boat.

As a poster above said, a change of government won't change anything. It's the people. It's never just the government. A government can't survive without the support of it's people. And the American government, despite any Republican vs Democrat boredom, has the support of it's people.

From a quebecois (french canadians for you who are ignorant :P) perspective, i could try to explain that american bashing.

I never understood why you guys call yourself "america". America is a continent, not a country. It would be like calling french "european". You cannot take any ownership of that word, it really bothers me. I live on the same continent then you, so find yourself a more suitable name. That simple thing alone is considered by a lot of canadians and quebecois as being part of your arrogant nature, whether you realise or not that arrogance.

Basically, every body has a certain amount of hate they have to spit out, one way or another. It varies from one person to another of course. Right now, who is the most dominant force in the world? The united states. People naturally hate those with the powers, because 99% of the world is made of peasants and common joe, and they will naturally envy that power. Take note though here: Envy there "power", not necessarily there way of life. I don't know much quebecois who would trade their way of life with any U.S. people, but i know a lot who would like to be able to bomb whoever is opposing them or get more control over their economy.

So at the end, it has nothing to do with the poor guy living in U.S.A. He is just expandable, like the rest of the worlds peasant. This hatred is not directed toward them, but how can you not feel like it is since you live in that country?

With chinese coming along, you can see how a lot of people are starting to turn their eyes toward them and split that hatred. The spot light is still on the U.S.A., but other growing forces are gathering that hatred toward them. The Islamic religion definitely starts to aggravate people, because they have demonstrate their power of being able to reach the foundation of another great power with september 11. Now we are all scared. Did i cared much about muslim before september 11? Not really. But now, they are my number 1 target when i need to flush some hatred. God knows how long it will stay that way... Probably until world war III, where the muslim will get at it against the rest of the civilized world, because there's clearly no room for those 2 culture to survive this century.

Bottom line is: If we would all be able to put our hatred asside, we would be able to let diplomacy resume. Personally, i don't think i'll ever get to this point. I like to hate people that are my opposite too much for that. The worst part is that i know it's wrong, but it drives something inside of me to go one step further, live another day... It gives me more will, more power... I must be a Sith or something

What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...

I think that people that have "All Americans are x" tautologies are more American than they think.

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

And they believe in a "false" prophet as well!    A prophet of WAR.  Where logic outmatch love instead of serving it.  I personnally can't trust a guy which believe in logic over love.  Logic is great and all, as long as it serve a nobler purpose.  Just like in a MMO logic must serve the purpose of a FUN game, not be done at the expanse of fun.

Jews are prolly right though, yet we all believe in the same god and I am sure that the god above will take a very kind and smiling approach on dreamers who believe in a better happening, this is why Christians and Jews usually get relatively well along...no matter who is right, the other is not going to be scowled upon.

Logic is a tool, not a goal.

This is the same reason why Catholics are right over protestants, love outmatch logic anyday!
