Aside from all other arguments, these speak the most for SWG's future...
Huxley- Watch these Movies... then, look at these Screenies... This is what I wish the NGE was... This one will kill PS as well, my old Outfit is already planning to move to it...
Vanguard- Check out this Video (and there are more & better ones as well), then look at these Screenies...
Age of Conan- Watch the Video Special on this page... it speaks for itself... ALL gamers should watch this; can you say "Oblivion+ Online"? Realtime Combat, Diverity of Professions, Player Cities (with Stongholds & Walls), Siege Weps to destroy them, Formation Combat, Mounted Combat (ever Impail a guy?), Death Blows (watch the heads roll) & every system Oblivion had+...
Fallen Earth- Good Trailers & Great Screenies.... There's a LOT still to do with this one, but it's already extreamly interesting... SWG meets Fallout meets Auto Assault...
All of these game are slated for, Q4'06 to Q2'07 release. VSoH is in Beta, and the other 3 should be shortly (Fallen Earth may take more time, but will be out in '07)...
Watch & Look at these, and then come back and say SWG's future is strong... It threw away it's player base for a base that hasn't shown up, and won't after these games start releasing...
A bird in the Hand...

Are you kidding? SWG won't survive to next year unless it is on the PS3.
But it's all shinies and trinkets until proven otherwise.
New MMOs are having really hard time penetrating the market. While most will get apealed by the shiny graphics there are several things to consider.
1) Monster rigs needed to play them (WoW has low-poly world for a reason)
2) All fluff, no substance (the WoW rating is rapidly plummeting, since people are sick of no substance)
3) What's new? What are the KSP? Does any of these games offer anything new at all? Anything?
Post-WoW world is an unpredictable one.
Huxley - looks like Unreal engine (I might be very wrong).
Vanguard - legacy of EQ and WoW. Very very big shoes to fill, and plenty of spoiled, jaded people to please
AoC - Oblivion was ok. Praised by some, satisfied the others. Most however agreed that Elder Scrolls was a tad better
Fallen Earth - Fallout is a semi-niche game, AA is, well, honestly not doing well
Not really bashing these games, since I don't really know enough about them, and I don't make opinions until actually playing them, but I do know that there's only a handful of long-term viable MMOs out there. Unfortunately, many of these listed here will fail.
The real question here is, who will come out with new gameplay concept that will apeal. The WoW has defined current one, nobody can compete with it anymore, it's a done deal. Does any of these games promise anything as such at all?
If SWG keeps at least some of the old concepts, and possibly adds some of the stuff they are planning, then they'll survive as long as needed. As you said, a bird in hand... With SWG people know what to expect.
"Aside from all other arguments..."
Oh, I agree, and it won't make it to the PS3... I just wanted to show the reality of the coming MMO field... all of these games are less than a year from release...
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

It's been said before: Console kids will not put up with this garbage.
I respect that about console kids...Of course, they don't have the option of patches really though.

As a matter of fact, the oblivion horse armor patch costing $5 caused quite some uproar, especially since it was available for free to PC players (yay!).
See the business benefit of consoles? And why companies like them?
OMG that Fallen earth video is stupid...
I haven't really seen a game yet that I thought was cool...I'm kind of eyeing STO just because for some reason, the license gives me hope that they will have the funds to actually develop the game. Plus, I'm hoping they add PvP to it..I think it might be a fun/funny game to play if nothing else.
MMORPG licenses/idea's I'd like to see:
Mad Max - Make it a prequel type game focusing on the MFP vs Road Trash
Spaghetti Western - C'mon? Why hasn't this been done YET!?
Meatballs - I don't know how to make that movie into a MMO, but somebody needs to find a way

That conan dev movie is pretty awesome...
Also, it doesn't take another game to kill SWG...SOE are doing just fine by themselves.

Good in a Movie is one thing...good as a game is another.
And LMAO on your second comment.
I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever

I agree, but the combat looked pretty cool. I am skeptical that it will work well live because of lag, etc..And didn't I hear that Conan was no PvP?! That would be a shame with a cool system like that and the player cities with sieges and stuff.

One thing i didnt like with that Special conan vid. One of the 1st thign she said was
"You start of you life as a slave you dont know who you are...you memory has been wiped"
Your memory has been wiped? I thought this wasnt a Sci-Fi mmo? Wierd

But which of those allows you to play in the Star Wars Universe? I'm sure that the majority of people that play SWG know that it sucks, but play it anyways because they find some level of enjoyment out of it and more importantly IT IS THE ONLY STAR WARS GAME OUT THERE. So, which one of those games are going to take the Star Wars fans away from the only Star Wars Online game out there?
None
Note: I do not and have not played SWG since December. I'm just a person who looks at all sides of an issue and just not a few.

Actually PVP will be a HUGE part of the game. Didn't you hear the Dev talk about "Gangs battling in streets where each player can pick a side and fight if they choose"?
You won't be able to lay siege to a Player City in the beginning, but eventually you can... they're worried about someone rolling in in the middle of the night and destroying and looting a town while the Players are sleeping...

Is it Grace Jones/Wilt Chamberlain Conan or James Earl Jones Conan?
Former SWG beta tester and player
Lol, no I didn't hear that...I couldn't understand everything that guy was saying and I was laughing at his voice sometimes because he sounded like an effeminate Arnie.
That is good news then!
Hopefully, they will be able to make that combat system work with MMORPG lag.

Huxley is using the Unreal3 engine as for how well it will do, I think it has really good chances for a couple of reasons the big one being that it will be available for Xbox and PC with a catch... PC players will be battling against Xbox players by design because the race choices are different for the 2 systems..
Webzen will be using an age old hatred to drive the war.. the hatred that PC and console players have for each other.
As for how many will leave as new mmos launch it may be far more then some think, I am sure that there are many like me who simply play swg because of the lack of Sci-Fi style games to choose from, with Huxley, Tabula Rasa, Fallen Earth, and Star Trek Online those choices will grow.

I'm not too worried about lag... if you noticed, the combat wasn't hyper-fast, it was varied... if you wielded a Great Sword, you swung it slowly, but man, did it hit hard...

Heh, that's not a unique insult to SWG since the NGE...
