And if you have read the story about Buddha.

Buddha was a prince. Just before he take over and be the king, he went out of palance and check things out. He saw so much suffering. So he gave up the throne and left palance. Later he figured out the truth of the universe something like that, and became a god. Something like ascented into a higher form of existance just like what Stargate was talking about lol.

Buddhist monks' highest goal is to be "ascented" just lke Buddha.

infact, Muslim "priests" as you want to call them, go out to work, study the Qur'an, take care of society, and buy their own food.

as i told you before, don't talk about anything you know nothing about.

Muslim "Monks" or "priests" or "Clerics" -call them whatever- do all the necessary contribution to society, oh and don't mix up "Sunni" "priests" with "Shiite" priest, the "shiite" "priests" are no different than christian priests or buddha monks hehe.

    Bhuddists have a warrior caste.

Let's not be imagining Bhuddists = some pacifist religion free from war.

    Do they feel guilt? No.

They can ascend through war too.

What kind of violence Buddhism caused ? Yah those Buddhist countries like japan and non modern china were an perfect example of peace and harmony lol.

Buddhisms is like christianity and islam, there isnt just ONE, theres a ton of different beleif and teachings.

Since when is there a "Buddhist country"?  What does that mean?  China and Japan went into battle in the name of Buddha???  Or was it just that they drafted all the monks into service?

Have you ever heard of Shinto, Confuscia, and Tao religions?

Wars would not stop if religion didn't exist. People would find a different reason to kill eachother.

    Very true!

Killing eachother is one thing the human race has always done very well.

Buddhism ftw, though I am not a believer ::::07::

You ready for the same argument that non christians use against christians?...

"...In 1057 Anawrahta declared war on the Mons to capture the Tripitaka, the Buddhist scriptures, which the Mon King Manuba refused to give up. Anawrahta beseiged the Mon capital of Pegu for months until Manuba surrendered and the city was destroyed. Anawrahta returned to Pagan with the Mon royal family, 32 white elephants (each of which was laden with the sacred books of the Tripitaka) and Thaton's remaining 30,000 inhabitants - including craftsmen and builders. The Mon king was dedicated to the Shwezigon as a pagoda slave..."

OH GOD... A king (there are more instances of such) KILLED 30, 000 People JUST to get the buddhist texts back... I think what what? That's in the name of Buddha isn't it? to fight for your holy texts? OH GOD... BUddhist people kill..!!! OMG OMG....... You might be saying oh well, that is different... well that's about the same as the Crusades wasn't it? weren't they supposedly fighting for their holy land?...

It's so silly that a non-christian person makes a comment about another religion.. and THE FIRST DEFENSE that you guys have.. is to blame christianity for being worse... What a load of crap... "... Well Buddhists aren't that bad... atleast they're better than christian priests and the inquisition.." (rough quote)....  Nobody in these forums had any family that was directly affected by the Crusades..... So just leave it alone... Because i'm pretty sure that there were some people who were fighting in the Crusades that didn't believe in God at all... Or may have been some other strange religion... same for the Muslim side.. I'm betting not all the people fighting were muslims... The crusades didn't start with "ALL CHRistians lets go kill the muslims.." it started with "Soldiers mount up we are going to War...."

Look I already KNOW that buddhism is a religion of peace... Buddhism DOES NOT Tell people to go and kill others... or be violent.. Or anything like that... But neither does Christianity... If someone wants to pervert the religion with his own meanings and justifications.. well doodoo on him... Religion doesn't kill people ... people kill people... The original poster is atheist I believe... So please hence forth attack atheism.... Thank you

LOL was gonna find that crap out but I'm too lazy. People don't know squat about the eastern world alltogether, and as they say the grass is always greener on the other side.  I do think that Islam is the only big religion that actually has an excuse to war for their faith.  Killing in the name of christ is hilarious to me.  Killing in the name of the biggest pacifist ever, jesus is spinning in his grave people :)   Same goes for buddhism.  Islam was founded by a freaking warrior and spread through force and awe, preaches about jihad etc. There is at least precedent to excuse what they did in the past lol.
For a christian to use violence in any way is a sin, there i said it.  But wait there's a catch, christians like to quote the old testament, Snap.  Using 2 contradictory religious texts is so great.

"I like your Christ, but not your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ." -Ghandi

Im a christian universalist, theres something to be learned from every religion, though I lose my faith in humanity alot nowadays, we find more and more ways to destroy ourselves, we are like a child given a red rider BB gun ;)

From what I know Jesus said to be merciful and even freaking RESPECT your enemy, that and being able to accept and forgive, which shouldnt really be hard to do unless they do something Hitler-ish.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Wrong I'm afraid. The Crusades really started with the Pope, Cardinals, and Arch-Bishops telling all of the Lords and Kings and such-like that the best way to speed up their time in purgatory (the latest idea cooked up by the catholic church to aid in their control over the populace) was to devote some of their life to the most important quest of all time - retaking the holy land (and donating all proceeds to the Catholic church, surprisingly enough :p Though the Knights Templar were WAY too intelligent for that... So the Pope had a word... And then... Ya know...)...

The Crusades - the worst 'war' in history (don't argue this based on numbers please - you're completely missing all the other elements of war, such as reasoning, ideology, lasting effects, fighting style, cost etc.) - were started by religious people (christians in fact... -sorry, couldnt resist giving people more to whine about us awful 'atheists'-) using religion as a cover for their desire for power, riches and territory.

I will say though... Buddhism is far from the most peaceful religion going... Go play some Shogun: Total War... Or research Samurai... (Particularly their method for ensuring their weapons' sharpness)... Despite that though... Buddhism ftw!

Shinto is a religion of Japanese origin.  Buddhism is from India.  Buddhism is the study of guiding the spirit towards ceasing reincarnation ("nirvana") so that the spirit can stop suffering.  Shinto is more the worship of elements.

Confuscianism is really a philosophy more than a religion and is from China.  It is rules or guidelines on how a society can flourish by focusing on doing the right things by family, community, and government.  Taoism is similar in some ways.  It's also a Chinese religion that leads you down a path (called "the way") of rightousness in life.  The Chinese don't focus as much on the after life as they do the here and now.  Very similar in the focus to Judaism.

I learned all this in a world religion class.  Take one, they're really interesting.  I learned a lot in there.

I learned that of all the religions in the world the most peaceful is Buddhism.  I think if there were any religion that could last into the future it's Buddhism.  It fits into science, nature, and the spirit perfectly.
