do we REALLY have to post everytime EVE gets a new player? there is an EVE section for this.

But who am I to ruin the mood?

Congratulations EVE for buying a very expensive server, and for creating a game that has minimum server traffic. your game is still only medicore though.

Yea, 30000 players online at once. Like Grimboj just said, 95% of them are afk, 3% of them are jumping to other systems, and 2% of them are PvPing.

Don't think thats the point really. 30k players on one server is awesome whether you like teh game or not.

It might be on eve and people may not like the game as such but the exciting bit is that someone is doing it and other game companies are going to notice it and prolly try to do teh same thing. Thats what this should be about.

I mean something like WoW or EQ2 etc...with 30k players on one server, with manageable lag, would be quite awesome I think.

The community on this site should really learn to appreciate things liek this regardless of whether they liek teh game or not. Oh and btw, they use some pretty awesome hardware.

Personally, I would liek to see a game like darkfall or Star Trek online with these many players online simultaneously. I think that would be freakin awesome.

EVE sets new record for most new threads started for every bit of 'news' about the game, like if it's been mentioned in a magazine or if there are more accounts logged in than last time someone posted it! EVE CURES CANCER, OTHER GAMES KICK YOU IN THE TESTICLES!

It's odd that the EVE fans keep bragging about having more and more people logged in at once when it appears (from reading the EVE forums) that large fleet battles are basically all lag. It appears that most attacks on outposts or POSes bog down badly, especially when there's 200 or so ships on a side, to the point where anchoring storage cans near a station is regarded as an exploit by the GMs. I don't have the impression that you have even a 50-50 shot at getting in a large fleet action, that you're more likely than not to end up not really fighting the other side but just dealing with lag.

Yea that is a problem mainly because there are so many people in the same system. Plus if I remember correctly, each system doesnt have a seperate CPU core, it shares it with other systems. They did not add a feature in the original code for other CPU cores to share teh load on any given node. I think the devs said they are working on optimising teh code to help with that. The lag nowadays, is actually a lot better that about a year and a half ago. Plus ofcourse the fleets are getting ridiculously large.

And yes cans are considered an exploit for a very valid reason. Once people found out that a few cans can cause a small amount of lag, certain people started dropping thousands of cans around stations and such. Obviously taht caused major problems just liek mines before they removed the mines for the same reason. People started using mines as lag generators instead of mines.

Also regarding the fleet battles, I have been in battles where the total number of players in one location, has exceeded 300 with acceptable levels of lag. I have also been in fights with 50 people max and ridiculous lag. It seems teh system gets a bit temperamental. Hence the code optimisation tehy are talkin about.

Are they all in the same zone or in close proximity to each other?

On the high end maybe 500 peeps in jita and maybe 2000 to 3000 people all with in one or two jumps of each other. On the low end 0 people with only people passing through.

Eve has a really really big map.

EVE's map is big enough it could probably swallow up a couple hundred thousand without things seeming too crowded.

How did it perform? It's not that long ago that they begged people not to copy bookmarks so that the server doesn't crash.

It's about MMORPGs so it deserves to be here as well.
Plus it's too late to just pick up and move.

Enjoy what people have to say.

    Congrats Eve for being awesome.

What I'm wondering isn't why this is out here but why the same guy felt it necessary to post it both here AND in the EVE forum.

Yeah, I play EVE.  Yeah... I like EVE.

But I'm also one of the people that gets tired of it when somebody always finds it necessary to post every time EVE pops a new milestone in simultaneous logins.

    That said:
Jita had over 1200 players in the sector today :)

Our Corp (TSA) had over 40 people doing fleet ops and another large group out doing missions/complexes.  The other night we had a huge fleet op when we picked up our Dreadnaught (First one for our fleet).

yeah EVE has some really boring aspects but overall it's a good game.  I went back to it while I wait for the next UO to show up.  It's the only real sandbox left.

Except there aren't nearly as many WoW threads created in General as Eve ones.

Thats nothing.  I have seen some Asian MMO Open beta's exceed 40k players on one server.  With 20k on 1 map.  You also felt the lag.

Yeah... But EVE isn't a boring grindfest, and actually has some element of thought given to it... So it's worth talking about...

But anyway, this is record numbers for any Western MMORPG at least - I have no idea about the asian scene, and frankly i dont care, when I play their games it makes me feel like I'm selfharming. Congratz to CCP, I can still remember when that number was below 10000. Amazing progress.

so sitting there and watching your hoild fill with ore isn't a grind and not boring ? Sitting at a gate waiting for that ONE npc that might spawn with the key you need for 3 hours isn't grinding or boring ? Spending up to 50 percent of your game time travelling isn't boring ? Taking weeks to train up one skill so your lasers hit a bit harder isn't a grind or boring ? Doing one cookie cutter mission after another isn't a grind or boring ?

Thats eve in a nutshell. The only fun part about the game is its pvp. The rest is all grind boring and repetitive. Just like any other MMO. At least be somewhat realistic in your comments. Eve has about as much thought given to it as games like EQ and WoW.
