Eve is no better and no worse than the average MMO out there. Its a grind like the rest of them and no more innovative than a stale piece of bread.
I think you need to stop smoking crack and go try Eve.
Or are you one of those carebears who sits in Empire for 3 years and whines all the time.
so then you are saying that anything that goes on in 0,0 space dynamically changes the game world ? No it doesn't.
The game has a player run economy thats it. But no one single event can happen that will change the experience of the rest of its players unlike DAOC. Not saying DAOC is any good but I was countering the posters original sentiments. Eve has PVP that its calling card. It doesn't have anymore than that. Is this a bad thing ? No not at all. But give me a break Eve fanbois act like Eve is breaking the MMO mold. When in fact it is not. Its just another of the same kind of game dressed up a little differently.

Hadesprime do you understand anithing about MMO´s???
DAoC have 125k players,it was my favourite game years ago, if you want to do something in a normal server you need to have a buffbot on your back, so you people are talking about multiboxing on EVE wen you have the king of mulibox(DAoC), i play on the most populated europien english server, today on is prime time you have 700 players online, spared in 3 realms, and many players are BB´s.I played DAoC for 2 years, and you change the world 200 times more on EVE

I think I speak for most Eve fans when I say, we're in love with the concept more than the implementation. There are alot of things wrong with Eve, both technically and mechanically, you can't have truly massive battles without alot of lag, alot of the game mechanics (instas, risk/reward in lowsec) are just plain retarded and wrong.
But the concept.
The concept is pure gold.

I don't play "games." I have no time for "just another game dressed up differently." Games for are for little kids.
Eve is not a game, its a virtual world. An operating system for your second life in space.
honestly this isn't a big deal at all people... any mmo out there could do this.
They'd simply have to use the computers for multiple servers and make 1 server out of them. That's all eve has done.
It's really just a design policy, we want one server, we want tons of servers. It's simply just how the developers wanted the game to be. WoW has added tons of servers instead of doubling old server capacities, this is because they don't want that many people on the server at once.

Again its nothing new/spectacular, just a choice.
weird thing about it... how many games have made that choice?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
wow with 5-6x as many players on the server, would that make the game "better" or would it make it more "clustered".
Eve is a space game, a game filled with floating objects and infinite nothing, there should be plenty of room for everyone to be together. But putting 500 people into a cave...well that wouldnt work quite as well

Yeah it's nothing spectacular. I mean NASA has a supercomputer... I'm sure the pentagon has a supercomputer.. I'm sure Blizzard and SOE have supercomputers..ooooh wait no they don't. But CCP does. CCP's server cluster ranks in the top 500 supercomputers in the entire world. Sure it's a choice. It's a choice to deliver the best possible performance to their customers. I understand thats not a novel concept in the industry.. ooooh wait again, yes it is.
You must be a child if you can't grasp the importance of what CCP is doing for our genre. I don't care if you hate EVE. Everyone has different tastes, but to refuse to acknowledge the accomplishment of one of the smallest game developers out there is ignorant. CCP delivers a quality product and invests heavily in it's performance. CCP charges a meager price for their client and puts out free expansions. CCP is constantly looking to break new ground in server technology to insure that their game performs as best as it can.
When Blizzard or SOE put as much effort into their products i'll play their games. So far all either company has shown me is that they want to bilk gamers for every penny they can while putting out the minimal effort to do so.
Whats really sad is that if companies with the resources of SOE and Blizzard had 20% of the dedication CCP has to their products they could revolutionize not only the industry but the Information Technologies field as well.

Well if WoW was open PvP i doubt you'd have to worry about 500 people in one cave. But picture a horde invasion of 1000's into alliance territory. Conquerable territory that the horde could hold. Picture the counter attacks as 1000's of alliance players sacrifice themselves in an effort to recapture their territory.
Sounds like a blast to me... Unfortunately it can't happen on the sad little clusters that WoW runs on. Even if the game dynamics allowed it. Hell it's not even possible in EVE but at least they try and one day... they might even succeed.

keep up the good work eve!
think of it this way.
as long as blizzard doesnt get any more subscribers, and eve continues to grow at the steady rate it has been since launch...
it'll take at least a 1000 years to catch up.
Heck, if EVE will ever catch up I will quit EVE. I would hate the play the game with 5 million people people on the same server. It is getting a kind of crowded with 170k subscribers, that is why they are unlocking new regions next expantion.
Still though, the best thing about is that it is not your main stream MMO, it doesnt have million of subscribers. So game developers can actually listen to player base, w/o it turning into flame war. Well actually flame wars between EVE players on EVE forums are kind of rare, last time I saw a flame war it lead to the war in game, one said is still hurting badly.
Originally posted by Herkmeck The sad truth of the matter...There is one person on the Eve-online forums that boast he runs 7 accounts, and has NOT paid CCP a dime in months. CCP's 30k record is BS just by this alone. When one is running 7 accounts...Then you go into some of the empire space zones...and see a 10 ship formation with names like GSTOMP1---GSTOMP19 mining with macro's well there in 10 more...And these guys and gals are every where. CCP gets their money from the GTC sales...But these multiple accounts are being controled by one person. So that 30k number is not right...30k+ characters on line is more like 25k REAL people playing, probably less.... And yes...I working solo can make enough in one month to supply GTC's for two accounts. If I ran two accounts I can make enough for five accounts. So GRATZ CCP, you have created a system where some unemployed person in REAL life can play your game and sell ISK for RL cash for free. I found a former employee (the guy that got me hooked on Eve) in a Starbucks with two laptops going, and running four accounts. He said Wi-FI was free as long as he bought somthing once in awhile. and he was makeing enough to buy GTC's and selling stuff to support himself in game, and supplement his un-employment payments in RL....sad. AND FOR THE RECORD! I ordered a new computer yesterday. In five days I will return to Eve-Online. (Yes I am at work) I dont like CCP's policies, nor their unwillingness to deal with E-bay sellers, nor their GTC sales. But I do love the game.
Must say that it seems you never played other MMO's... heck I have a friend running 6 accounts in EQ2 and EQ1 and I meet chinese "slaveworkers" ingame that cant speak a word english that farms gold in WoW to sell wherever there boss does PR. The policy in the industry is to get rid of those people as far as I know, but they NEED petitions from people or it will never happen
I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK I work all day and I MMO all night....

Eve could not function in a PvE server. Industry/Politics/Economy/Warfare/Empire building would all go to ruin. Eve is a virtual world, not a grind game.

I like to play games for what they have to offer. Not for what the "collective wetdream" that sci-fi players with an overactive imagination experience. I see the gave for what it is, with it's limitations. I don't try to use my imagination to build a better game out of what's being offered, because that's daydreaming, that's not reality.
It takes more than simply a large community with a great imagination + a boring game that is of a "sandbox" design to be good in my book. The game itself actually has to be excellent. Yet that's not the case with EO. It's a very average game that has a great community and a sandbox design.
Fact of the matter is, the gameplay in EO is rather poor overall. And that's how you judge a game, by it's gameplay. EO is boring, it's repetitive, there's no greatness in the the game. The end goal is either to acquire more stuff (better ships or more ISKs). There's no "infinite possibilities" here, because the game is limited by it's gameplay.
plus the pvp is boring and it sucks.. it's hardly pvp at all.. just imo tho
HA HA HA eve only has 30k players man thats rich. Just shows you how dumb a lot of these game developers are. Insted of building a game that the majority of the people like they build a game that the majority of the people hate with open pvp, ganking, and lose of items, from what i have heard. I dont know about ksing or camping or forsed grouping as i wont play that game either, but yet mmorpg.com says its number one whats wrong with this picture!! To me number one is which game is the most popular. Wake up mmorpg, or at least add another link to your websight for the games that are the most populer. you are deciving the public saying eve is no 1

EVE = 170k plyers
If you dont belive me go to www.mmorpgchart.com
On US/EU market you only have 3 games with more players payng fees (WoW, Runescape and eq2(with 175k))
