Im still playing WoW and putting in a few hours per day.
I could be playing anything I wanted and I have played everything currently running, including EQ2 to level 42. So I guess for my part I have to say WoW is the best MMO out there at this time. Just my opinion of course

I'm not reading 10 pages of crap, but to the OP (if you bother to go this far) it IS rated as one of the top MMO's if you bothered to look at the game list.
It is ranked Alphebetically by its score. It is an 8.1 tied with about 12 other games with that score.
While WoW is a good game it does not deserve as high of a score of alot of the games on the top of the list. and before all the nay syaers start complaigning I have played the game quite a bit of time (5months +) . That said after all that time I noticed it followed blizzards typical buisness model, "wait for others to innovate, then Copy and refine." In most reviewing that wouldn't be a cause for outstanding reviews but well its blizzard and that name goes a LONG way in the industrry. And if anyone cares to debate them not innovating any game, with me make sure you know who Condor was.
That all said WoW is very much in the cool/acceptable category in modern culture. And if not that ask a bunch of college kids know what World of Warcraft is then ask the same question about pretty much every other MMO, Most will know WoW even if they don't play it, Second will be EQ though some won't realize that there is a difference between EQ and EQ2, By the time you get to the rest many won't have a damn clue what they are. My mother knows what WoW is. Brand recognition is why so many people play WoW, getting a gf to play WoW is easy, EVE and some of the smaller for lack of a better term "indie" MMORPG's is at best difficult. Not to mention that they don't have to worry about the reputation hit with thier friends when they post taht they play WoW on myspace as hey big shock WoW adds posted all over there.
Now add to the fact that the simplier game system then most of the "hardcore" MMORPG's means that yes my 8 and 10 year old cousins are avid WoW fans. Don't think that you will find many 14 year olds playing eve let alone a 8 year old. All of that gives WoW a wider possible player base.
now all that said I think rating MMORPGs are a living nightmare. Most Single player games don't take much more than 72 hours of straight game play to beat/give a good honest review. I can't think of a single MMO that is designed with less than at least a month or 2 of solid game play. Even the most die hard power gamers will tell you WoW which has one of the fastest to max level times takes around 2 weeks of pretty heavy playing and thats still missing ALOT of content. However most Reviews on MMOs are either done shortly after release or on a version of the Beta that is out of date before the review goes to press. either way they will be hard pressed to review on the end game. And in My opinion this is the part that WoW really excels at and is why it got initial High reviews. Wow got the initial boon from the fact that it is fun, comical, and generally very enjoayable up to 60. Once you hit there its a whole other game of repeating alot of the same areas over and over again. And to be honest if your not judging what you can do once you hit the "End game" of a MMORPG your doing a really bad injustice to the gaming community.
I don't play MMORPG's to get to a point and begin repeating the same stuff over and over again. I can buy a 50 dollar game to do that. I play a game to be able to constantly do new stuff or at least wrestle over challenging new developments. This is where as a MMORPG, WoW begins to suffer. The End-game review from this web site seemed to sum it up. the lask of a true lengthy experience with a character constantly do new things makes it rough to put it up higher. That said I do see WoW getting better and in a few more major patches/expansions where it begins adding more dynamic aspects in the end game, so that playing a character past highest tier gear/Max pvp rank becomes something worth while then it has a right to go for that top spot.
Ok my personal educated opinnion, u can listen to it or watever.
1. The games a game, no need to snap out over it.
2. It's very popluar but that doesnt mean it's good.(EXP. When u vote a president, he may be popular but doenst have to be good. And i kno about AL Gore so i dont wanna hear it)
3." Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Simply means wat is good to u may not be good to others.
4. SOME PEOPLE WILL NEVER CHANGE THEIR MINDS. So quit trying.
5. Better Games will come out, this always happens.
6.Out of those six people how many of them are raelly avid players. Most people have lives. So those people don't vote, so it really is pretty acurate.
7. Now for my main opinnon. I don't liek the games ideas. Just becaus ethe graphics are great doesn;t mean it is.(greatly helps to it thought) Exp. FF7 vs FF10.
A. Ok also y's the game have to go to level 60. Who wants to level up that long. Its a pain in the ass to do that. I like Guild War's outlook more, level 20 and bam, right to the action. Also more about skill, WoW isnt really about skill, its about wat u have and ur lvl.
B. K now that the thing is covered, what do u do at level 60. O wow Raidning so so much fun.(sarcasm)
C. To me if ur gonna pay money, make sure its fun, and not so boring at times.

I agree with everything you said except the last part. I do not forsee and significantly different or particularly interesting stuff in WoW within the near future (say 2-3 years). Well unless they get a serious kick in the ass from AoC or WAR ir Tabula Rasa, etc. But I really doubt that will happen. Maybe a kick in the shins at best.
To make a breif statement, I feel that WoW is losing its popularity because people are looking for more of a well rounded game, something different then the grind, and something that is a challenge to all, not just new people. WoW get s very boring very fast, wiht very little in the way of ablitiy to socialize. I know that many hardcore gamers will claim that they play to play, and not socializr, but thats crap. Everyone socializes. Also many people now, like in depth craftin gsystems, just as a way to lul away a few down hours. WoW doesnt really have this, yes they have a crafting system, but it is highly generic.

This site is full of MMO burnouts and people who want things the way they were in the good old days. The fact that WoW isn't rated well on this site is a good thing....for wow.
if i dont like a game i wont rate it, but i am currently involved with a game that i love, and i think part of the problem is that so many people PLAYED wow, and the in/out of players of that game is like a turnstye at the county fair, or a revolving door, there are many people that played wow for a cple months that come too the game i am playing, and seem too stay longer there than they did at wow.
People are to busy playing the game because it's so much fun. We don't have to prove how good it's by being number one on some chart. Im not playing right now because im at work but after work i'll be playing.
I made a classic mistake in economics, sure thing.
but the thing is, I am NOT talking about economics. I am talking about the quality of the game. and I wonder what this decent teacher wil tell me. "Look son, millions of people love to play WoW, it received the highest ratings, the most awards, and the most players, but its not the best game, because I say so"
gg teacher.
LOL you are the one who is insisting on ignoring the ratings and simply saying a game is the best for no other reason that you think it is. All you have presented are account numbers, but what value are they in this discussion, sure millions of people play WoW, that says nothing about why they play it and it says nothing about why they play it. Without such context the numbers mean nothing.
Sir, I strongly recommend you actually read my post first before you make a comment
Just because someone doesn’t count your unsubstantiated and unsupportable opinions as truth does not mean they didn’t read them.
This is why people always bring up the McDonalds analogy when you try to claim numbers have anything to do with quality. Millions of people eat at McDonalds every day, but without looking at why they eat at McDonalds you know nothing so you can’t simply assume that because so many people eat there they make the highest quality food.
Again, I shall prove why this theory is flawed. You keep saying that but I’m beginning to think you don’t understand the concept of proving something.
World of Warcraft is popular for a number of reasons. one, Blizzard and the warcraft tag, and two, more important, it just is a game of very high quality.
You think it’s high quality I think it’s crap, both are opinions and neither has anything to do with the proving you can judge quality solely by the number of customers.
why is Mcdonalds popular? Mcdonalds is everywhere. its easy to reach, and its food is cheap , and for a fast food restaurant, the food isn't all that bad. another reason are little children. the toy inside happy meal, anyone?
What exactly are you trying to show here? The McDonalds analogy shows that there can be many reasons other then quality why people buy something. Going through the reasons why people buy McDonalds food doesn’t tell us a thing about WoW or the topic at hand so why are you doing it?
None of those count for WoW. is WoW easy to get? Yeah, but not anymore then other MMORPG's. you can buy a copy of MMO's everywhere. is WoW cheap? heck no, its just as expensive as any other mmorpg. the food branch and MMORPG gaming business simply can't be compared to each other.

People play WoW for any number of different reasons, but one very important thing to remember is fewer then 1/2 of WoW’s North American subscribers have ever played any other MMO. In Europe that number is more like 20%. This means that 2/3 of all WoW subscriptions/monthly time cards have no point of reference with any other MMO and can therefore tell you absolutely nothing about the comparative quality of various MMOs.
This has never been proven
Just because something hasn’t been proven doesn’t mean it isn’t true. I could go on and point out subscription numbers for MMO’s 3 years ago, compare tehm to today’s and show fairly conclusively that what I said has to be true however it’s pretty clear no amount of proof would ever convince you because you believe only what you want to believe.
, people ASSUME its like that. and even if it is, lets say 1/2 never played an mmorpg in NA. how many subscribers does WoW have in NA? I believe it was 1,5 million.
1 million according to the recent motley fool (?) article
half of that is STILL 700k players which is STILL about 4x the subscriber base of ANY OTHER WESTERN MMORPG.
Yet you still insist that the people playing WoW are not new players…
Not to mention MMORPG's are big in Asia, close to everybody played an MMO before. I'm willing to bet that at least 80% of the asian players played another MMORPG besides WoW. for the record, there are over 2 million WoW current players in Asia.
Of the remaining 1/3 people can choose to play for any number of reasons that have nothing to do with quality. The primary one is because their friends, who have never tried any other MMO, play it. Another is that it’s an “in” thing to do in popular culture and you would be surprised at how many people follow the fads regardless of quality. Another is marketing, it’s often the most important factor in the success of a product and has almost nothing to do with quality.
Forgive me, but I have never heard somebody say :"Hey, look at me, I'm a wow player, i'm so cool now!". mind you, this DOES counts for other business such as the music branch, but this does not count for games. there is no "In" in mmorpg's. Blizzard are indeed expert when it comes to marketing, but saying they have 7 million players just because they have good marketing is ignorant. the "play with friend" thing is not any higher then other MMO's.
Once again I have to wonder what you are trying to say? What does any of this have to do with people playing because their friends do, marketing or pop culture fads?
So, at the end of the day you have only a relatively small number of subscribers who Play WoW because they have tried a lot of MMO’s and think WoW is the best one for them. In other MMO’s that percentage is much much higher so there is simply no way you can compare quality based on the number of accounts a game has.

Incorrect. your theory is incredibly flawed.
I presented details to support my post you talked about why you eat at McDonalds. You need to come up with something a whole lot better to show what I have said is flawed, and even if it is it doesn’t mean your opinions have been proved true.

It's simple: Everyone playing it is sooo busy in some raid dungeon while anyone not playing it prefer burying it!
