EQ and EQ2

sacreddaykilsacreddaykil Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 396

hi, im "looking" at the game:)
ive already played some games, and i guess, when im "done" with the one im playing, ill proly try EQ or EQ2.

but, i was just wandering, whats the diffrence between EQ and EQ2? i thought that maybe they made such a big patch that they called the game EQ2, and not EQ when the patch came. not that they had both games up and going. so, again :) whats the diffrence?

thank you for your answers..

I prefer EQ2. Beautiful game. Probably the best I've come across yet.

They're completely seperate titles.  Check out their websites, try the trials and make a decision.  EQ2 was originally supposed to replace EQ1, but then when it looked like a lot of people weren't going to leave EQ1 they decided to keep developing it...

btw, if im going to try EQ2 (the real game) do i have to buy all the expansions to get the feeling of the full game? is there 4 expansions to EQ2?

and, how much does these expansions cost?

  • DelamekoDelameko Member Posts: 200

    www.escapetonorrath.com is the EQ1 trial.

EQ2 has two expansions - Desert of Flames and Kingdom of Sky.  Desert of Flames is for characters 45+ so you won't need it for a while, Kingdom of Sky is for characters 55+ but you need it for the Achievements system which starts at level 20.

(There are also three Adventure Packs (mini-expansions) - The Bloodline Chronicles (groups level 35-40 roughly), The Splitpaw Saga (levels 20-50) and The Fallen Dynasty (levels 55-70).

The best way to pick up EQ2 at the moment is the Kingdom of Sky retail box, which includes KoS + the base game.

In November the third expansion, Echoes of Faydwer, is being released.  The retail box for that includes nearly everything (the base game, DoF, KoS plus the expansion).

ok than you for the info. but how many plays EQ2? like, how many players?

  • JorevJorev Member Posts: 1,500

EQ1 is better than EQ2 though it's not as good as the early days pre Planes of Power.

More people play EQ1, about 200k subscribers whereas EQ2 is about 170k.

    ok.

i watched some EQ2 videos, and i saw some COOL things!

    so, i have some questions.
there were a class that it said that they could ride on clouds or something, how does this work? what is it?

and that the corcec could shapeshift, into what?

and i saw a guy flying on a flying carpet, is this like a non-controlling flight path? from city to city? or free-roaming kind?

is there many kind of mounts?

That's part of the Kindom of Sky Expansion. I just bought that expansion so I don't yet know how you do it. You have to be level 20 before you go to the sky. And everyone can walk on the clouds. It's part of the game.

and that the corcec could shapeshift, into what?
The huh? I don't know what you're tlaking about. You mean one of the classes? Yes, some of the classes can shapeshift into bears, wolves, etc.

Free-roaming. I can't remember if you get it by quest or buy it. It's just a mount, like a horse.

is there many kind of mounts?
There are a few. You can have ghost horses, real horses, and the flying carpet. Echoes of Faydwer with introduce a cat as a mount.

what i meant about corcec was coercer the mage class...sry

here the link of the video http://www.trialoftheisle.com/video_new.vm (scroll down a bit and click "mage") , look at the tips at the bottom left corner, there it says: Corcers are the master of confusion and misdirection. They can even shapeshift.

anyone know what they shapeshift to?

and necromancers, is their "pets" powerful? and can the necromancer summon more then one at the time?

and conjurers, what kind of pets can they summon? are they powerful?

  • MoiraeMoirae Member RarePosts: 3,318
    I've never played a Coercer so, I'm sorry I don't know.

Necromancer pets are pretty powerful. I loved that class. Problem is, I hate Freeport. I betrayed to Qeynos and became a Conjurer. Conjurer pets aren't as cool. They're things like bugs and they aren't as powerful as a Necromancers.

    ok thank you for answer.

is there a internett site that lists all the pets a necromancer can summon?

Buy the boxed version Kingdom of the Sky expansion and not the digital one. It should have the original EQ2 game included with it. I'm fairly sure you don't have to buy them separately. Although there is the Desert of Flames expansion that is bought separately.

im playing the trial of EQ2, and i was wondering, do i get a new spell every time i lvl up? or is that just in the beggining?

and, what was the max lvl if i have all the expansions?

  • sacreddaykilsacreddaykil Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 396

    anyone??

  • MoiraeMoirae Member RarePosts: 3,318
You get new spells every time you level up. You can also buy spell upgrades (spells you already have made more powerful) on the broker, make them yourself, or buy them from some vendors though the ones you get from vendors won't be as good as the ones from the broker or making them yourself.

The top level is currently 70 with all expansions included. Please keep in mind that there are new expansions fairly often so the top level may be increased with them again.

I'd also suggest reading the information on the EQ2 web site. The questions you just asked are all answered there and people (including me) get very sick to death of answering the same questions over and over again when the answer is on the official web site if a person actually bothered to look.

sure it is tiring for you guys, but its much faster to ask here, and if you dont want to answer, dont do it.

btw, thank you for your answer

PLus looking on the official site doesn't help us pad our post count

Also there are Achievements as well as levels.  50 Achievements currently.  Plus another 50 with EoF.  They're like levels, you get AXP for doing certain things and then a level up is a point you can spend on an ability.  If you've played WoW, they're like talents (but earned differently).

Just going to insert few facts and observations.

EQ recently opend a "progression" serve where old expansion packs become available as folks unlock them.  Currently I think they are only up to Scars of Velious, so if you really crave a "prePoP" experiecne it's available.

EQ changed the way that spell upgrades work (quite some time ago in fact).  Any class that gets spells (even hybrids like shadowknights) will now have at least one new ability to lern every level.  It's a hell of a lot more fun than the old system.

EQ II is much more of a "modern" MMORPG than EQ.  By that i mean soloing is much easier, quests are easier to find and more rewarding, there is less built in down time, and the game in general is just easier to make progress in than EQ.  EQ seems to be taking steps to modernize in the latest expansion (coming out any day now, may even be out..not sure).  For example, a linear series of quests to level up with is being added and downtime due to resting is being drastically reduced.  But for the time being, EQ is a game that requires quite a bit of patience and spare-time to make real progress in (compared to most MMORPGs anyhow, although it's no worse than FFXI from what I hear).  If you are coming off of WoW, EQ II will definitly be more your speed.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

thank you for the info! i really like that "get one spell each lvl" thing, its seems fun :P
