Wouldn't that point to the stupidity of fundamentalists rather than Americans?

Yeah, like your post. Seriously, if I have to read another huge, bright purple "Bring it on down now", I'm going to gouge out my eyes with a screwdriver. Ok, well, not really, but I will be miserable...

Anyway, yeah, there are plenty of fundamentalists in the US, so I see that as a valid reason. Then, of course, you have G.W., who... *sigh* Well, he doesn't exactly make us seem intelligent, now does he?

Can we please get over the evangelical wave from the 1800's and do what Jefferson wanted us to do with this country?  We could have been so great by now, but instead we are stuck in a redneck holy revival.  I would rather the Anglican's won out over this evangelical stuff.

    /agree

The only thing I see wrong with Jefferson's ideas for this country would be the Yomen society thing .. but of course, when the enlightenment reaches america, what do people do?  Put there fingers in there ears and yell "lalalalalala!"  ...pretty typical behavior.

Jefferson discovered it on a trip to China. It is a dish consisting of 1 part yogurt to 4 parts ramen noodles. It is said to have great curative powers and promotes a sense of spiritual well-being. The idea didn't go over well when he presented it, of course. However, to this day, we all love our ramen

How utterly presumptuous of you.  You ever hear that
expression, "When you assume you make an ass out of you?"  Don't
remember how the rest of it goes, but I'm pretty sure it applies.

When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me. You know, ASS-U-ME... Something like that, anyway.

Still, I assumed you'd be all for it, too.

A history teacher that doesn't know about jefferson's yeomen society?!?!?! ... wow

Ok, well yeomen society is a society that is small and subsistance farming based.  It was based on the bartering system.  This was how Jefferson thought that the U.S. should be, small and agricultural.  Basically jefferson was against industrialization and urban living. This was the reason that he disliked the idea of a national bank at the time.

(sorry, it's called yeomen, not yomen :})

I see you didn't catch my thinly-vieled attempt at getting a rise out of you.  All the better.

Meh, I might be for it.  I've heard the news talking about this "Jesus Camp", I've just never actually been interested enough to actually see what they're talking about.  As, I have yet to get a summary, I can't really comment either way.  Sure, I could look it up, but that would involve reading.

Funny how I can post so many times in a topic about a movie I haven't even seen.  That takes talent.

You don't have to post before we know what your response to it would be... If you have read a good amount of threads by a person then you know what their perspective would be.  It actually really easy... like automatically you would assume that I would be against it, or that alexamore and a bunch of other people would be against brainwashing people...

A movie about a evangelical camp is why most people think Americans are stupid?

That says volumes about most people.

  • AkunaiAkunai Member Posts: 138
I don't know if it was the camp that made people think that, so much as the messege of breeding soldiers for a holy war.
