CoH Vs. WoW!

It is true that WoW does not have many original concepts. However, it has taken solid working ideas from previous MMOGs and put them together. In my opinion, it will be a very good MMORPG.

City of Heroes is far more original, in concept and character development. Certainly, a very interesting MMOG, though superheroes is not my cup of tea. I expect more role-playing though, than in WoW.

Anyway, wait until the games are released. Then, we can do a real comparison.

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

I agree, but for now i think my favorite is CoH. Don't ask me why i just like it (=the idea, i am not in beta so don't know anything).

I would have to go with COH as well. I think it is pretty stupid making Warcraft into an MMORPG. All my friends agree that it was better as a stratagy.

(Warcraft, Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal Expansion, Warcraft 3, Warcraft 3: The frozen Throne Expansion.)

As a casual, non-PvPing, MMORPG gamer, I voted for CoH.

CoH is unique in its super hero theme.  The graphics are easily in the top three for current MMOs and MMOs in developemtn. The gameplay is top-notch.  It's very accessable for newbies and easy to solo or group with friends of different level ranges.  Therefore, it is a sure thing for me if possibly less so for the MMORPG market in general.

WoW is another fanatasy-based MMORPG.  One of many.  Will it be technically good and have mass appeal?  Probably.  Will it appeal to ME? Probably not... unless they have a co-op server like DAoC's Gaheris.

personally i dont like any of these games, i think CoH will die eventually, and am not that interested in being a super hero anyway. Also i think WoW is over-rated, i dont think it will contain enough proper role-playing or character diversity etc to meet my needs.

dude how can you compare such different games?

CoH is street fighting type of game.

    WoW is epic.

I like epic so there is no way I would play CoH.

Well, since I'm in love with customisation, I'll have to side with City of Heros. Though they both look pretty fun

CoH on the other hand is said to have an extensive character editor so in my eyes, that alone sets it a few notches above WoW.

They both look cool...But being the cheap bastard I am, I'll just get the one where the "Pay-To-Play" is cheaper. Until then, I'll be drooling over the both of them....image

I'll prefer WoW...CoH seems interesting but WoW At this time has an INMENSE world . WoW Looks better by only seeing screenshots.

I agree. I think both games are going to do well.

Tho I am a huge CoH fan. I truly beleave its a breath of Fresh air.

And on the PVP thing.. OH PLEASE name one PVP mmorpge where PVP is balanced. Ther PVP servers are Romotly Full. And the game itself is not dieing.

    Shadowbane. (dead and dieing_

    UO (Dieing tho slowly)

    Planetside (never really lived)

DaoC (pvp is getting less and less popular on that game)

here are 4 games that Focus on PVP and well. they aren't doing so well

now games where pvp is not a focus they are doing great

Everquest. Largest Game base in the US maybe world. has 4 pvp servers all 4 are VERY under populated. Vers the 22 other servers that anrt. That tells me that PVP is a HUGE minority in the MMORPG world. Its fun for a while but it gets old..

imageI like the idea of a non-pvp player world. Yeah, it's been done before, but most of the people complaining are the hard-core pvp players, themselves. Simple solution for our pvp experts... go pvp someplace else. That way, you'll be satified, & the rest of us will enjoy what promises to be something a little bit different on the mmorpg horizon.

CoH has some fresh ideas, & the only way we're really going to know if it was worth the hype is to try it out.  I'm looking forward to beta testing this one.image

UO, still has a strong playerbase, still going fairly strong, was truely the innovation of the decade for games.

SB, that whole game is crap. PnC=Bad, Graphics=Bad, Performance=Bad, repetitiveness=bad. You cant PK very well either, either your in a huge guild, or your lagging out.

DAoC....Huge playerbase. Only thing to do at higher levels is PvP, and there are plenty of high levels PvPing, so thats a load.

Planetside is an FPS, not a PvP game, you want to say its a PvP game, then so is counterstrike, which is one of the most popular games ever made.

EQ, biggest MMRPG in the world....ahahha, thats funny.

Lineage1, biggest MMRPG ever created, at its peak it had about 2 1/2 million, yes, million, subscribers. Now I think it has about 1.8, 1.5 mill. The games whole emphasis is PvP. So to say its a minority is a joke, and saying that PvP gets old....Hrm....PvP, like a genius monster with attitude, vs PvE, dumb programmed robot that the only thing you have to take in is how much damage he'll do, and how much health and potions you have.

ya muppet i gotta say, u really dont seem to know much about these MMO's or even MMO's in general if u think PvP is just something that dies out...

like stated above, the world largest game (Lineage) is also one of the most PvP-based games out there...

I wanna add one more thing Blizzard has probably one of the worlds best animators and 3D artists. If you've seen any animated movies in Warcraft III single player compain you would know what I'm talking about.

And I knwo everone and there grandmother who has played DAOC says the PVP is going down. no one dose it anymore.

and for linage. thats Swell that its the largest in the world and its PVP thats ONE out of..like 50

as for Planetside. Its a MMORPG. its on this websight. It has Hundredes of players in a presesnt world. That counterstrike dose not. So guess what it is! um..forgot what els was said. Oh shadowbane. The game was Touted as the COme all and end all of games befor it was released. and I know most poeple that played it and stoped it had something to do with the PVP. I know thats why i quit. it was so horribly unbalanced. PVP is the Minoirty. All be it VERY vocal one.

And if that is really true. they why has everyone been reporting that PVP areas are Bare and dry with no one in them. and Further more. If the game was doing so great. Whats it matter if its 1 in 50? You combined all the popular carebear western games and it still wouldnt beat it subscriber wise.

Planetside is a MMOFPS. Masive multi online first person shooter. Its like counterstrike with more players, but its still the same type of game.

I quit shadowbane on one of the facts that there was hardly any PvP, you were either in a newbie guild that sooner or later gets picked up by the giant one, or you were in the giant one that had rules against killing newbies, allies, your teammates....And there were few enemies.

But uh....ya....your right, PvP is a minority, thats why lineage outnumbers in subscribers in all the popular western games combined.

No it dosent. that Is BS.. I want hard Facts Writen by a trusted Sourse of Info to back that up. I know for a fact that EQ has over a million Subscibers. It wasent to long ago that they announced i think 800k Simotanious users on at the same time Breaking the world record and is in the Gennies book of WORLD records.

And if you can Submite that Liniage is in fact bigger then every MMORPGE in the US combined I will gladly admite I am wrong. I unlike somepeople can admite when they are wrong. (that is not directed at anyone. just a matter of opinon that most people can't admit when they are wrong)

And for that Matter I will Revise my Statment.

PVP is a WESTERN minority. and sence CoH and WOW are Western games.. I guess then its not so important that the games have them As every WESTERN game that focuses on PVP fails or is Failing or the pvp parts are being takeing out or Dumbed down.

Maybe in its prime, but it no longer has anywhere near a million subscribers.

CoH will be a blast for a coupla months.  But without crafting, economy, or pvp I can't see it having enough content to hold most peoples attention for the long term.

WOW is just the same old fantasy, and I think the graphics are dorky besides.  But, its Blizzard and although they may not be creating anything original here, they will create a game with a high degree of polish.  Reading their dev notes impresses the heck out of me.  They have a lot of good and original approaches to the problems (griefing, lvl treadmill etc..) that typically plague mmorpgs.  Many mmorpgs in development (like Warhammer Online) don't seem to acknowledge there are problems much less set out original solutions.

Fortunately the timing seems to be working out that I'll be able to play CoH and by the time I get bored with it, WoW will be ready.

I dare not to even vote. How can you compare these 2 MMO's? They aren't even really from the same genre.

It is like comparing EQ to SWG. Or more generally speaking Apples vs Oranges.

If you really have to then tell me how many different creatures does CoH have vs WoW and how much do they differ? Are all creatures in CoH dwell in caves, dungeons and etc.. In otherwords along this how many diverse quests can you get from a villain? scenario's and etc... I think with this thought you won't want to go there. CoH type of settle will not be so diverse as what you can do as with quest and adventures in a Traditional fantasy settle like WoW, EQ, AC, UO and etc...don't compare Traditional to Future fantasy Hero settings. Traditional has a Ton of more literature than super-hero which goes back even way before J.R.R. Tolkien.
