Originally posted by MuppetHero No it dosent. that Is BS.. I want hard Facts Writen by a trusted Sourse of Info to back that up. I know for a fact that EQ has over a million Subscibers. It wasent to long ago that they announced i think 800k Simotanious users on at the same time Breaking the world record and is in the Gennies book of WORLD records.
EQ doesn't have over 1 million subscribers. They have just over 800,000. This was noted earlier last year. Even though EQ has continued to grow, they are still losing players about as fast as they get them. Which is why they haven't reached 1 million yet. Here is the link to the story.
Final Fantasy XI have about 600,000 subscribers, but that will change once the game is released for the PS2 here in the U.S. Both of these figures are worldwide. Aaah.. no, they did not have 800,000 people playing simultaneously at the same time. If you find that story, please post it.
Oh yeah, I picked World of Warcraft. I'll be playing City of Heroes as well, but World of Warcraft is going to be HUGE. Blizzards nack for details is astonishing. You really can't compare this game to City of Heroes. Even though CoH will be good, I'm afraid it might get repetitive without villians in the game. Still it should be fun for awhile. I can't see this game not being fun unless they have a lot of bugs and balancing issues. We'll see though. World of Warcraft is going to ROCK, and they will definitely have over 300,000 subscribers within the first 2-3 weeks of retail. We already have people from our guild who will be in Beta very soon. Hopefully I'll get picked as well.
Originally posted by Vizier CoH will be a blast for a coupla months. But without crafting, economy, or pvp I can't see it having enough content to hold most peoples attention for the long term.
The dynamic mission system gets around that static content found in virtual worlds of other MMORPGs. Mission areas (zones) are suppose to be built on the fly. So, it's not the same old hunting grounds.
Originally posted by Tyrgris I dare not to even vote. How can you compare these 2 MMO's? They aren't even really from the same genre. It is like comparing EQ to SWG. Or more generally speaking Apples vs Oranges. If you really have to then tell me how many different creatures does CoH have vs WoW and how much do they differ? Are all creatures in CoH dwell in caves, dungeons and etc.. In otherwords along this how many diverse quests can you get from a villain? scenario's and etc... I think with this thought you won't want to go there. CoH type of settle will not be so diverse as what you can do as with quest and adventures in a Traditional fantasy settle like WoW, EQ, AC, UO and etc...don't compare Traditional to Future fantasy Hero settings. Traditional has a Ton of more literature than super-hero which goes back even way before J.R.R. Tolkien.
Actually I think that CoH could have very diverse missions, they have picked a number of groups of 'baddies' from different backgrounds, and due to the fact that they seem to be including everything from Weird Science and mutants through contemporary thugs and big business villains right through to magic they have the scope for alot of different zones and quests. You can have the ganglands, the mob controlled business sectors, The high class areas where the wealthy who thirst for yet more power perform arcane rites at hidden alters...... I can't think of many other games with that wide a range of genres to choose from I wonder if theres a way they could put Arkham asylum in there.... *looks wistful and slightly maniacal 'ahhh home from home' muahahahahahaha
If anything I think CoH is more likely to fall into the trap of being traditional Fantasy with new names and costumes, rather than going too far into boring reality. Whatever happens I think there are alot of possibilities in this game, and while I admit it may not hold my interest forever.... I definitely want to give it a look

Once again I am amazed at how stupid posts can be. You know I am an avid WOW supporter, but the more idiots that decied to post, THIS GAME ROX. The more and more I find my intrest waining.
*I'm not saying there hasn't been interesting posts on here, but a good majority just state their descision, followed with, "This game is the coolies" and you'll all have to excusse me but I'm loosing paients with people like that.*
As far as the VS this is consered let me just say the the whole concept is retarded. Why don't you just get the retail boxes and bang them together and see which one wins, it's going to be about as effective as posting a thread like this. The fact is people are going to choose which game they play based on the follow creteria.
City of Hereos:
1. The super hereo theme. - If you like it then your defantly going to be interested in this title. If not, well then your probably not interested.
2. Customizability- If you like your charcter to look diffrent then this game is right for you.
*Yet at the same time I don't think they've implemented a way to change your characers look once it's in game. And for me that's a problem.*
3. Unique Experance- Personal contacts, diffrent for every person.
4. Graphics- You like them or hate them.
5. PVP- There is none, which makes some people really happy.
6. Urban Enviroment- It's a city and for people who are sick of hidding out in yet another forest glen or cave dwelling it's new and exciting.
World of Warcraft:
1. Graphics- love them or hate them
2. A polished game design- It's a blizzard title, and I know the game isn't out yet, but still if they're track record stands for anything, this game is going to be very well thought out in almost every aspect of game play.
3. Soloing- Every class in World of Warcraft will have the ability to solo.
4. Content- With over 1200 missions at last count, and upwords of an additional 800 planned for the first six months after launch, it seems like you'll always have something new and interesting to do.
5. PVP- A vast RVR style pvp makes WOW an answer for people who are interested in pvp, but don't want the fear of being ganked all the time.
6. A crafting system- If you like crafting, wow might not have the best crafting system ever devised, but at atleast has one.
7. Warcraft Name- Either you like the warcraft setting or you don't.
Oh and for you people who don't think I have fears or reservations about either game well here are a few problems I see with both titles.
City of Hereos:
1. Plastic- Is it just me or do these avitars look like action figures. You might think it's cool to walk around like that superman doll you got in your room, but I don't.
2. Ecodemy- Huh, wait where did it go. Oh yeah it went away with any and all logic. Just like in the comic books your superhereo won't need a buck to survive, he just does.
3. PVP- At least give me the ability to duel. I'm not a gigantic pvp fan, but duels can be fun and entertainiing.
4. CLothing- DOn't these tights ever go into the wash. I'm not possitive, but I"m pretty sure that once you get a costume your stuck with it. Which means that while you might look orignal and unque to everybody else, evertime you log in you get the same stupid set of tights.
5. Carbon Copies- Sure you'll have an endless list of superpowers to chose from, but it stands to reason that some are going to be better than others. And when it's discoved what those others are people are going to flock to them, and create an army of superclones which may be fantastic at defeating supervillians, but deffantly doesn't make the gaming enviroment emersive. *This is a fear, not nessarly a reality*
6. Eq in tights- Yeah it's a new concept in design, but not mechanicly. When you get down to the core it's still a basic mmo model. Hands down.
7. What Rewards- I'm currious, other than experance and the notion of a job well done, what exactly are the boons in taking down these supervillians.
8. Custimizablity- I know some people are going to say that this game has a fantastic customizablie interface, but in all actuality it's crap compaired to EQ2.
World of Warcraft-
1. Player Base- If these forums are anything to judge the WOW player base by then I'm deffantly not going to be intersted for very long. People who think that all mmorpgs are basicly diablo except now UBER L33t.
2. Fantasy- Hey... Still waiting for that original spin here.... Um ok so I can ride I gaint bat... Um... ANything else... Oh it's an giant undead bat... Well I guess that makes all the diffrence then doesn't it.
3. There where 9- Nine classes! You've got to be kidding, Albion had more than 9 classes and that was just one realm, not an entire game. Oh and did I forget to mention that of these 9 classes 5 are caster types. Wait you're only going to give me one fighter class, hey hold on a second.... Oh great and one class is alliance horde specific. Meaning really I only have eight choices. God you must be joking. Arg I hate the class system!
4. Warcraft Story- Maybe it's just me, but I didn't find the warcraft story fun or original. Oh sure the humor was nice, but it seemed to me to be genero fantasy cut and paste. Then again I don't know what I was expecting.
5. Gravity- What comes up comes down, well blizzard has being going no were but up for a long time. I'm currious if this will be the sudden call to earth I've been waiting for.
6. Travel- Mounts at 40! They had better turned up that runspead, along with their attack speed.
7. Gnomes- Let me start this off by saying that I liked the gnomes in warcraft two. I'm just currious as to where they are, and where these evil demon children came from.
8. It all goes back to EQ- Um it looks like warcraft, but it feels....
9. Custimizabiltiy- Blizzard says it's important, but is it really. So far their attempt at custimizablity is giving five diffrent options in character creation, and I for one say THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
Let me finish this off by saying that I"m going to end up buying WOW, basicly because I dig on fantasy and trust the blizzard name. As far as COH is concerned I'm most likely not. The superhero thing isn't my jive, and to be honest the plastic look to it bothers me. Is that to say I won't give a try if I get into beta, no. Is that saying that if a friend of mine bought it and I played it and had a good time I wouldn't shell out the money, NO! Does it mean that COH is a bad game, NO! It just means it doesn't jive with me, and the sooner you poeple learn that these things are based on personal prefrance and not some written law, the beter.
